- Catchfire Collective performs Hot Take (2018) by Robin McLaughlin
Program note by the composer:
"Inspired by the tweetstorm that followed the awarding of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize
in Music to Kendrick Lamar, HotTake is a homage to the bad opinions we love to
hate.
HotTake is written for, and dedicated to, clarinettist Kyle Kostenko, with whom I
have appreciated many "hot takes." The sources that provide the text for HotTake have been edited so that it's hard to trace them to their sources."
Recorded live during “They Sing and They Clap and They Shout” in November 2021 as part of a residency at The University of North Carolina Greensboro.
Based in Greensboro, NC, Catchfire Collective presents innovative, powerful, and inspiring performances that reignite the chamber music experience. Their performances have been praised as “magical,” featuring “relentless pulse, contrasting textures, and beautiful individual playing.” For more information on the ensemble and to sign up for updates, please visit catchfirecollective.com.
