    Im 80-85 swing speed with a Tour Edge 3 wood, speeder 40 shaft. I hit it pretty high and 175-180 carry on the golf course (I'm 66 yo). It's my favorite club and hit it off the deck every time. However, you are right, my 5 wood is close. about 10 yds diff. That's a great point about more loft helping with carry. I've been thinking about a 7 wood as well. All three clubs seem to gap really well as I'm such a short hitter at the top of my bag especially. Great video.

    thank you. I like how you demonstrated the swing speed yours vs slower yours... it just make these easier to understand about spin rate esp for slower swinger 🙂 eventho this vdo posted 3 years ago, still help me on making a decision on 7fw .. i wanted to get one since im no good with 3fw my swing speed is only 70 - 72 ... as much as a woman muscle can do at my age 😀 i got a 5fw in my bag already with 4 hybrid... im really really considering grabing a 7fw to help with my game plan... thoughts? thx!

    GREAT VIDEO!!!
    Finally someone explaining (and actually showing) qthe difference in swing speeds that highly affect how a fairway wood reacts. I'm one of your golfers who doesn't carry a 3wd, and totally agree it's too darn hard to hit well with a low 80mph swing speed. I also carry a 9wd, and 11wd, and still looking for a new 7wd to replace my ancient Ping G30 7wd. Noticed your hitting the T.M. Sims, and here's the rub, I can't find a 7wd T.M. sim anywhere. Inquiries to T.M. brought no response, which I felt strange. Bummer!!

    Great video a lot of people do not use enough loft, I have a swing speed around 100 miles an hour, I have 2 x 5 woods one on a three wood shaft loft down the other on a 5 wood shaft with loft up and hit them both really well. With completely different ball flights.👌🏻

    At 73 slow swing speed... hitting a 5 wood and 7 wood now (Cobra Speedbacks) they have adjustable hosel which have lofted 5 down slightly. I can hit these reliably and straight. My 3 wood is gathering dust. Last round was , don’t laugh, 86 Driver is 200-205 with little dispersion so sticking with what works so far. Great video!!

    Thanks for putting this video together, it's provided me with food for thought as My swing speed with my driver is 88 mph and I'm guilty of not using my 3 wood off the deck, preferring either my 19 or 22 degree hybrids so I might just put my 5 wood back in my bag and try that instead of my 3 wood for a change

    This actually had the opposite effect for me. Ive always had a 3 hybrid, because everyone told me they were the most forgiving. I could just never hit it consistently. Finally gave a modern 3w a go (Srixon zx) and its night and day. Off the deck, off the tee, so much more consistent. No tops (like the hybrid) and super forgiving. Less dispersion as well. I am a high swing speed player - and for me i struggle with clubs that require a low swing speed as i just cant get a rhythm that works for them.

      Better to try yourself using a launch monitor as shaft will impact the numbers too. Ideally try a wood you can adjust the dynamic loft. I prefer a hybrid over a 5w for shaping. So many options these days.....

    Very interesting video, I replaced my 3 wood with 5 wood last summer because it's easier to hit and carries further for me from the fairway. Looking into 7 wood at the moment to replace my hybrid which I tend to hook. Have no idea about my swing speed but eye opening to see you hit that far with your "slow" speed, I'm probably hitting it to hard.

  • @jeffproehl295

    I switched to 3 and 7 wood this year. Epic max. Regular flex. 3 wood goes 210-230. 7 wood 185-200. Those are approx. the big news if they are so easy off the ground. Also getting fit helped as well. Great video. My swing speed is not as fast as yours. But with the right club I can get the most out of it. Now if I could just make a damn putt. Lol

    • @kevinvassago
      @kevinvassago 3 года назад

      Ok, but I have a legitimate question though. If a 5 wood is easier to hit, and only travels 15-20 yards less distance than a 3 wood, which you could easily just make up hitting a 6 or 7 iron while approaching the green, as opposed to the short iron you'd probably use from the extra 20 yard distance with a 3 wood. Wouldn't it just be best to use the 5 wood since it's more accurate, has only a slightly higher loft, and you'd make it to the green in the same amount of strokes anyways? Sorry if that question was confusing, it's just a question I've always had on the 3 wood/5 wood debate.

    • @lindsaynewell6319
      @lindsaynewell6319 3 года назад +1

      @@kevinvassago it's a good question with a simple answer - I don't have a 5 wood !!
      I'm slowly redoing my bag, which was full of 15 year old clubs because I only played 3-4 rounds/year for the past 10 years. I've replaced driver and putter. Irons will be next. Then I'll do woods/hybrids to get gapping right and do wedges last. 5 wood vs 3 hybrid is definitely something I will look at and test, especially with adjustable sleeves now.

    • @kevinvassago
      @kevinvassago 3 года назад +2

      @@lindsaynewell6319 that is a good answer😂 I've been redoing my bag too cuz all my clubs are older as well and it's time for some new ones since I've been goin out way more often. But listen to this! I have an 8 & 9 iron from the Tylor Made Pittsburgh permissom era, which I guess is the line of clubs where Taylor Made switched from actual wooden woods to metal woods. Anyways, I was teeing off on a par 3, 130 sumthin yards to the hole and used my 8 iron (from the 70's), I gave it the purest hit I think I've ever felt, it landed on the green about a foot away from the hole, and rolled right in! I got my first (and most likely last ever) hole in one, with a 50 yr old 8 iron!! I'm not sure I even want a new 8 iron, that one works just fine. I think new clubs can be important, but don't discount older ones either!

  • @B055ie
    @B055ie 3 года назад

    Would a hybrid not be a saver club when playing from a less ideal lie (which is the more likely case for me), like first cut or even rough? Isn't that why it is called a fairway (wood/metal whatever) vs a rescue? I play up to a 5I (thinking of replacing it with a 5H or 7W). Top end of my bag is Driver (10°), 3W (16°) and 4H (21°). So does it make sense to replace my 5I with a 7W going from a fairway to a hybrid and then back to a fairway down my bag? I know the answer is to go for a fitting, but fitting is done from a matt, real life is an %$@& lie.
