    The reason why Anne says she's so sexy that she broke England from the church is that Henry divorced Catherine of Aragon just to marry her. The Catholic church didn't allow divorce, so Henry created his own church, the Church of England just so he could marry Anne

      Pope: Nah you can't marry your mistress and divorce your wife! That's not okay!
      Henry VIII: FINE!! THEN I'M GONNA MAKE MY OWN CHURCH, WITH BLACKJACK AND HOOKERS!!
      Anne Boleyn: *LOL LMAO WE GETTING X-RATED*

    So, when Anne of Cleaves, the one who "got rejected because she didn't look like her picture," was ending her line before Catherine Howard interjected, she wasn't actually talking about his size.
    Henry loved to believe that his life was a fairy tale, and pulled a prank on Anne.
    He and some of his friends dressed up like peasants, and pushed their way into Anne of Cleave's private quarters, where he expected the poor woman to recognize him on sight, regardless of what he was wearing, and fall in love with him instantly. When she didn't, and tried to get the dirty peasant out of her quarters where she and her ladies-in-waiting were, the King revealed himself, and decided that he did not want to marry her because of her lack of respect or something, so he divorced her, and gave her a huge plot of land and a palace of her own to live in as compensation.
    They did remain friends, however, and Anne was close with his next wife, Katherine Howard. Henry did later say that he regreted not marrying her after he got to know her platonically. I daresay she got the best deal of any of his wives.

      I don't even think anyone bothered to tell anne of cleaves about Henry's habit of disguising himself. If they didn't, someone should have. Anyway, when she didn't recognize him, that's when he said she didn't look like her painting, that she looked like a horse, and that she smelled.

    • @dragansnyder2786
      @dragansnyder2786 8 дней назад

      It is also entirely possible that she was referring to his size (or at least that that was what the writers intended) because Henry was so eager to have himself painted as well endowed that one really gets the picture that he had a massive case of LDS)

    So glad that you reacted to this one, and I hope you can hear the rest of the series! I _believe_ that is the original london cast recording, but I'm not familiar with this specific animatic (except for the bit at the end, which covers some of the stage interactions and I don't know when that happened).
    If it is the London cast then it should be:
    * Catherine of Aragon: Jarnéia Richard-Noel
    * Anne Boleyn: Millie O'Connell
    * Jane Seymour: Natalie Paris
    * Anna of Cleves: Alexia McIntosh
    * Katherine Howard: Aimie Atkinson
    * Catherine Parr: Maiya Quansah-Breed

      The ones singing are the studio cast who did the first professional run! They are:
      Catherine of Aragon: Renée Lamb
      Anne Boleyn: Christina Modestou
      Jane Seymour: Natalie May Paris
      Anne of Cleves: Genesis Lynea
      Katherine Howard: Aimie Atkinson
      Catherine Parr: Izuka Hoyle
      Two of them went on to be in the original west end cast :)
      (The dialogue is definitely from the original west end cast, the people you said in your comment, so you’re also right)

    Oh oh oh!!! I really hope you react to the little introduction bits in between songs as well! Next in order would be Catherine of Aragon's intro, and then her song 'No Way'. I truly think you're going to absolutely love all of what you're about to see. The undertones of a fair amount of the songs use scores and/or instrumentals that would have been prevalent in the Tudor Era; for example, the poem/song 'Green Sleeves' influenced the music of Anne Boleyn's song 'Don't Lose Your Head'.

    Fun fact! The melody of this song (at least I think it’s the melody) is a electronified version of the song Greensleeves which most know as a Christmas song. It was thought Henry VIII wrote the song for Anne Boleyn but I think it was recently debunked.

    • @Lychiiee
      @Lychiiee 2 месяца назад +2

      This is true! Newe Northen Dittye of ye Ladye Greene Sleves is originally by Richard Jones (who also made six more ballads with similar names). I believe the myth of it being made by Henry VIII came around due to Henry making music himself - though clearly this was not one of his - and he was said to have given musical gifts.
      Even though we know he had nothing to do with Greensleeves, I really like that Six used it multiple times throughout the show. Even though it's not historically accurate, it's a cool reference back to all the theories linking it to Henry VIII.

    If you react to more of the musical i hope you keep one thing in mind. Anne Bolyn in media is often portrayed very inaccurately and unsympathetically, and SIX unfortunately falls into that.
    She's usually portrayed as a seductress, and often as unintelligent. In actuality she didn't want to marry Henry and was in love with another man, but he wanted her and you don't exactly say no to the king. So her options were to try and get married to him or live and die as the king's whore essentially.
    Henry had also already been trying to annul the marriage to Catherine for years at the point he met Anne, so at least to me all of that is on him not her.
    When you learn about the historical rather than pop culture version of her you realize she's really been given a raw deal in media for the sake of having a more dramatic story and upping the conflict between her and Catherine on screen.
    Inaccuracy for the sake of entertainment basically, which can be fine but when every single adaptation does it it just ends up messing up public perception of someone.

    Funny you mentioned Henry not having the time to get rid of his last wife. At one point he almost killed her too due to her religious views. If he had lived longer no doubt he would have had 7 wives
