Ozzy isnt anti religoius however he doesnt practice any faith. He has said " God bless you all" at the end of his concerts for many, many years. Geezer Butler wrote the lyrics to this song and he was raised Catholic. If you pay close attention, most of Sabbaths songs that are considered " anti religious" are actually warning people to watch out for evil and the devil is always near/
It's entertaining to see people listen to Sabbath and piece together that band isn't the anti-christ, fear and death merchants that they expected them to be.
People totally ignored the true meaning behind many of their tunes, and just went for the throat over rumor. My coolest Uncle gifted me this album for my 12th B'day and I'll never forget that first pass. Thanks young lady!
The record company started the rumor by putting a inverted cross in the album cover of their first album, then in the 80s Ozzy latched on to the prince of darkness crap to further sell his music. Black Sabbath wore Christian crosses around their necks to keep evil away, I mean what devil worshiper would wear a cross? Glad you stopped to realize what the song was about...good react!! 👍
Being a SABS fan since 12 (61 now) I have always looked at this song as a Pivot point in their music as in their first LP introduces Lucifer this actually draws younger generations in because it sound like Evil mystical stuff we use to rebel against the world, Paranoid was destined to be named War Pigs had a lot of Vietnam reference of "WAR, and God is the Master of Reality... so there is the Pivot... a "WAR" between God and Lucifer. , I'll Add I asked Bill Ward if this Concept was intentional and he just told me that they just believed in what they were doing. I believe also that there is light in darkness, and I believe God influenced Geezer to write things that gave the music it's "2 sides to every story" without people actually seeing it unless they SEEK to find the Truth. this song ask you questions that will direct you on your journey in life Is God just a though with in your head or is he a PART of you ? or Perhaps you think that when you are dead you just stay in your grave ? you are asking yourself to chose eternal life or death. so glad to see younger generation opening up to the founding fathers of Metal in my opinion, back in those days though it was considered Hard Rock or The Underground music because people were saying it was Satanic... funny Ozzys dad didn't make "upside down Crosses" for them all though huh ? lol
In 1971, Black Sabbath became a target of ultra-religious groups who accused them of "devil worship" and banned their music... Geezer Butler (bass) offered this song's lyrics as a rebuttal to their vitriol and unfounded accusations... All 4 members of Black Sabbath came from a conservative religious background, but dabbled in 'alternate' religious beliefs... Ozzy's dad gave Black Sabbath a metal cross for each of them to wear on the road, to keep them safe... Ozzy has said he believes in "God" even tho he is not overtly religious.
I dont think Ozzy was ever anti christ. I think he struggled with it from time to time. I love how Sabbath changes time and tempos with their songs. In my opinion they started a lot of that but it's just my opinion
This song is about. Someone trying to convert someone they think is an easy target. From that person’s point of view. It’s basically about people who give religion a bad name.
Great! Loved it! The lyrics are by the Catholic bass player, Geezer Butler. I sent you the full context. Even Christian metal was created by Black Sabbath. 1971!
The song is basically about people who give religion a bad name. They have done other songs on this topic as well. Person trying to convert someone he thinks is an easy target.
Please do some Tony Martin era Sabbath. Headless Cross The Shining Anno Mundi Ancient Warrior Glory Ride The Sabbath Stones so many more. This era was Sabbath's most progressive period.
Dan, although the lyrics were written by the bassist, Geezer Butler, your idea is still correct. Ozzy has complained on more than one occasion that he's like an actor playing a role in a movie, but for some reason people don't seem to get that. He's said, "From my experience of America, a lot of religious fanatics judge a book by its cover. Over the years my biggest argument has been that actors like Vincent Price and Christopher Lee can play roles like Dracula or the antichrist but they never get the same hassle as people in the music industry. I do my best to avoid these people."

The Righteous One LOVEs these guys! Ozzy most of all, because he's so much like Moses!
Great Sabbath reaction! Spiral Architect and Megalomania are two great Sabbath songs that don’t get enough attention in my opinion.🤘🏻

Black Sabbath the first Christian metal band. As stated bassist Geezer Butler penned the lyrics and was Catholic and definitely Christian..

@@shspurs1342 , no, you've got it wrong, but it is an outstanding song.
@@mikeg.4211 I thought it was about that. Then i watched Butler saying it on TV.
Putting on some lip gloss.. oh girl you know you got it
Please do some Tony Martin era Sabbath.
Headless Cross
The Shining
Anno Mundi
Ancient Warrior
Glory Ride
The Sabbath Stones
so many more. This era was Sabbath's most progressive period.
How did you miss "When Death Calls" and "Eternal Idol"? :)
This is a pro Christian song. And I believe Geezer was the one who wrote the lyrics
Does it remind you of the Friends theme song
Ozzy believe it or not loves Jesus lol.
All four members were raised Roman Catholic.
Their song Spiral Architect . Is pro-life !
I think Ozzy has Christ in his heart. The other B.S. no.

Sabbath is a blues band..Most of their music is pro religion..The evil image is a gimmick.🤘
Ozzy's Prince of Darkness is all a gimmick , the TV show show's what a clumsy clown he is !
Black Sabbath was not anti christ
