Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Sabaton for the first time, performing "Uprising” live at the Polish Woodstock Festival in 2012.

Your question about the hair care is funny, because a lot of metal guys didnt take care about their hair. They let them growing and the most of them use normal shampos. Its a traditional thing in the metal scene. Punks have Mohawks and Metalheads have long hair, it was a symbol of status and stand for the difference between goth, punks and metalheads, every side had their own hairstyle. But yes... there a lot of little male princess under metalheads XD
To getting bald is the dead for some of them XD
If you liked this, watch 40 to 1
Saw some Polish flags there in the audience. Sabaton did an epic song about the battle of Vienna in i think 1483 when a huge army of Ottomans lay siege to Vienna and the HRE emperor called upon its princes and allies to relieve them. They gathered their men and marched for Vienna. The Polish army consisted of mainly cavalry and arguably the best of their time at the end of cavalry charges being relevant.
The Winged Hussars charged down the mountain side and defeated the Ottoman army in spectacular way. If the Ottomans had taken Vienna, the road towards the north and west of Europa for expansion would have been open. The Polish of that era saved the rest of Europe from muslim invasion and yes there are many heroic tales regarding the Polish. Sabaton is the band to underscore every single event in history that can be classified as heroic and i bet the Polish in the crowd love them for just that.
Pls make video about "mamo tyś płakała" by Sanah and Herburt.
Hello. It would be nice to see reaction to Beyond the Black - Sabaton - To hell and back Acoustic cover

@@bemusedalligator Greetings from Poland!
The Sabaton Effect
And hopefully more understanding for some polish irritability on some topics. This Uprising took about 230000 civil victims bombed, raped, murdered, burned, slayed, buried alive, executed by Germans (with some help of Ukrainian Kossak, Russian, Lithuanian and Azer units - mostly volunteer bandits). So please, understand when we sometimes get nervous about the history 🤷♂

Sabaton are the cool history teachers you had in school if they started a band.
The best thing about Joakim is the VAST difference in his speaking voice versus his singing voice. I get a kick out of it.
Lol true
100 percent true.
That being said - him along with almost every other Scandinavian person I've heard speak or spoken with almost have a musical quality to their speaking intonation.
One of my favorite things about Sabaton is how massive their audiences are in Europe but when they come to the US they’re totally cool playing in clubs for a few hundred people. They really do love their fans.
I would so recomend the live version with them of "En livstid i krig"/"A life time of war". Choose the Swedish version and have the captions turned on. The song is released in both English and Swedish versions BUT there is a major difference. Both are about the 30-years war. The Swedish version is from the perpective of a single soldier where the english version focused more on the war itself. Joakims singing qualitys and baritone really comes inte play...AND if you like crowds singing it back, The Swedes are singing the majority of the first verse agfter Joakim has just sung the opening line.
Yes definitely!!!!
Yes! It’s my favourite live concert video I’ve seen tbh. The staging, the lights from the audience, that breakdown near the end of the song!! The performance always gives me chills!
ruclips.net/video/WBs3G1PvyfM/видео.html
The English version of the song is like the English view of the war, an outsider looking in. As England was not involved in this particular conflict
Carlous Rex is a masterpiece the whole album the title track song Carlous Rex has the greatest line of all time I was crown by God not by the church as my power is divine such a empowering and invigorating line that also has significant historical meaning cause during the time of King Charles the Xll the power and influence of the church was waning due to rise of science and medicine thus the Heads of State had more power to govern without needing the church approval
YES! Lots of chills
Now you definitely need to watch "Ghost Division" and "40:1" from same concert.
Especially 40:1! That flag is something to see.
Yes! 40:1 at this concert is amazing
And after 40:1.. That the crowd starts singing the Polish anthem.. What more can an artist wish for.. Like really..

YEEEESS! "Warsaw, city at war! Voices from underground whispers of freedom"
1944! Help that never came!
Calling warsaw city at war
Voices from underground, whispers of freedom
Rise up, and hear the call!
If you want to read more about the historical context for this song, check out a book called Rising '44. It's about the Warsaw Uprising, and there's one moment that always stuck out to me in which the son of the Polish Premier or some such political figure was fighting on a corner against the Nazis as they believed the Allies were approaching. The kid's dad had specifically placed him in that location. When things started getting bad, this fellow soldiers and heroes said they needed to go. Then, this teenage kid said "that's not why my father put me here." He was later burned by a German flame thrower. The heroism has moved me to tears on more than one occasion.

Thanks for speaking up, distant cousin. My great uncle was lost at Wizna, and his little brother (my grandfather) fled the country in 1942 with his young wife and 6 month old daughter (my mother). He volunteered for the US Army 3 months after they arrived in the US. His greatest regret was that the US did not liberate his homeland. He was never able to return, dying before the collapse of communism. I was able to visit in 1992, and tried to find my family. For the "crime" of fighting in 1939, helping local Jews flee and fighting in the resistance, they had been sent to the camps. As far as I can find out, none came out. Keep it strong. Poland cannot fall under the boot of another power ever again.
Having seen Sabaton IRL twice, I can say that they have an amazing stage presence. They work crowds like you wouldn't believe.
And if you want to get a large crowd gone wild, sing about the poles being awesome to a crowd of poles. This and 40:1 are great examples of this,
The 40:1 video taken from this same concert is absolutely mental. My favorite part is when that 75 foot Polish Flag just materializes in the crowd
sabaton 40:1 from same concert is also a masterpiece
Is the concert in the video the one that had the Archbishop of Poland walk on-stage to say "The Church of Poland bow their head to Sabaton" and gave them the sword?
There was ~600,000 people at this concert which incredible to think about when you see the audience.🤘
The R-sound is most likely because their first language is Swedish. Us Swedes have a hard rolling R-sound, so when we speak English it tends to carry over to the English we speak, thus a more hard R when usually it isn't there
"The final solution" Is a sad but important and great song you should react on.
There are videos where they do it live but its oddly rare for...some reason 🤔
We need the Winged Hussars to arrive.
According to Joakim he rolles his R cause it masks his accent, so he just makes it cool instead :D
Yes 😀
People from Sweden in general has a tendency to "swallow" the r's when they speak or sing in English, I know quite a few who use the rolling r's instead. Don't know if I do it myself (Yes I am from Sweden too), I just keep babbling on. Cheers / B.
@@mbo191 yeah but generally swedes are very good at the english language. That doesnt always mean we speak without our telltale sing like accent. So instead trying to sound native english and failing he just made the R's more prominent :) and like he said, it is good for the articulation! :)
@@mbo191 i just pronounce it like Swedish R's, i guess they are rolled? It's hard to do the pirate r, i tend to over-do it if i try and it ends up sounding silly.
Yepp. Listen to Sabatons Swedish songs and you'll notice he does not roll the R's as heavy when singing in swedish.
You should see the live version of Attack of Dead Men, I mean he preforms it in a gas mask!
For hundreds of thousands of Poles singing about Polish resistance, they kept it pretty civil. I was expecting more smoke, flares and pure chaos :D

One thing I would like to add that's quite impressive on Joachim's part is that in the last bit of chorus, which is in Polish ("Warszawo, walcz!"), he's gotten the phonemes for "sz" (/ʂ/) and "cz" (/t͡ʂ/) perfectly.
From my experience, no one outside of Poland gets these right (which is understandable, it takes a LOT of niche experience to differentiate /d͡ʐ/, /ʂ/, /t͡ʂ/, and /ʐ/, as almost no languages ever make use of them), and it's almost always mispronounced as /ɕ/ or /t͡ɕ/; to have someone entirely non-Slavic nail it down is as rare as it is appreciated. :)
They were headlining Wacken in 2019, where they played BOTH big stages at the same time with their old and new lineup. It was legendary! 🤩
I saw that. Kind of reminiscent of Helloween at Wacken in 2018, except Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske are band members again, recording new material. 1 band with 3 singers, whereas Sabaton basically had 2 full bands playing at the same time with just one singer. Both were epic performances in their own right.

Sabaton live always gives me chills
One of the coolest things about Sabaton is that they will sing about these really unknown people and stories and they will highlight heroism and courage in so many situations. I loved hearing them scream 'A cobra vai fumar!' in surprisingly good Portuguese when they played in Brazil.
You should really check 40 to 1 to see them sing about Poland again.

I´m a huge Sabaton Fan, you should listen to "The Lion from the North", "Ghost Division", "To Hell and Back", "Great War" and many more. But I have to say, your Band Favourite, the drummer, changed after 2012. ;)
SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) this song is great to but its in swedish but there are English text to it to:)
Sabaton is a unique band with a special connection to the crowd. I remember seeing them in Download Festival Paris under buckets of rain. For a lot of bands that day people were watching from afar under the drinking tents but for Sabaton everybody was hooked up to the stage. Tech crew was mopping the stage, Joakim had to change his mic 3 times but the energy everybody was sharing hold the band and public together in a way I didn't felt anywhere else, not even at a Rammstein show. I have chills thinking back about it.
And I'm glad to see that kind of reactions about Joakim's voice because he worked a lot on it : he wasn't supposed to be the singer at first and only sung on the first drafts and finally stick to that role and worked on it to be better. I think that's awesome.
It is funny how non-metalheads are always surprised by crowd energy on live shows, when it is basically like that on every metal concert :D
As long time Sabaton fan, I can say that knowing the background of the events behind heir songs adds another whole dimension to them - I enjoyed a song I heard dozens of times even more after finally reading something about the events it describes.
I dont get why people would recommend this song in particular. It's a great song, but much of it consists of anthem-like singing, it's not the best in terms of fully demonstrating Joakims vocals
True, but it is a song about Poland, performed in Poland. There's always something, when it comes to Sabaton songs, about the crowds reaction to a song about their own history.
I'll have to check out some of their other stuff, then. I'm not at all familiar with this band, and have to confess I wasn't much impressed with the vocals here, as it comes off more as shouting than singing to me - which doesn't mean I couldn't appreciate the music, as I certainly like other bands who don't have singers who would win awards for their vocals, but for a channel where the focus is supposed to be on GOOD vocals.... well, this wouldn't make the grade for me. But to each his own. ;)
@@supertrexandroidx I've seen them live and trust me, they are amazing and Joakim is a hilarious person. That being said, I personally prefer their studio versions because live performances are very crowd involved and with Sabaton, it's hard to appreciate the storytelling in the songs.

Long hair was a rebellious act back when rock/metal was just beginning. I played metal for years on guitar and had hair past my chest. It is more fun to headband aswell lol.
Pretty sure you meant "headbang" instead of "headband", but since my phone just tried to autocorrect it too, we'll blame the software.
And I agree with the statement as I believe it was intended. It's much more fun to headbang when it's long, otherwise you have to do pound the ever living crud out of your knee instead.
For anyone confused about the knee-pounding thing, go watch the music video for Bismarck and you'll understand.
@@cristiaolson7327 Yea lol. Auto correct isn't the best x.x
for the inevitable flood of "do all the Sabaton songs" comments, here's my picks:
En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) - a story about the 30 years war. for the crowd reaction and for the epicness. it is sung here in swedish (recommend subtitles). now the english version of that song actually tells a very different story so you might want to find a translation for the swedish lyrics (for the feels... all the feels...)
Bismarck (Official Music Video) - a song about the German battleship Bismarck and its fateful journey. video made in cooperation with wargaming (google world of warships) and thus absolute epicness. fun fact: the boat owner is (i think) a grandson of an actual survivor.
No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Video) - this song comes including its history packed into one video and gets me shivers every time. a story about a German Luftwaffe pilot not shooting down but instead escorting home a damaged British bomber in ww2
Seven Pillars of Wisdom (Official Music Video) - enough ww2? Lawrence of Arabia then? featuring Indy Neidell, the host of Sabaton History (see below)
82nd All The Way (Official Lyric Video) & the same song covered by Amaranthe & 82nd All The Way ft. Amaranthe (Live - The Great Tour - Oslo) - for the marathon :)
I could go on and list every one of their songs, because they are all pure epicness. As above are mostly recent ones, let me add an old one into the mix:
Cliffs Of Gallipoli (Official Music Video)
Also Sabaton has its own Sabaton History channel here on the YubTubs where every song is explained from a creational and historical point of view. great stuff!
Yes, but... why not all Sabaton songs, tho?
One thing about no bullets fly, it was an American B-17.

My goodness, you caught the barefoot drummer! I totally missed that. Much respect for the attention to detail!
'R's are a hard letter yup...
let me introduce you to its meaner brother 'Ř'. That one will beat you up, rob you, and let you lie in a dark alley while maniacally laughing.
Anyway, love the reaction and the professional input. I bet you would love 'En Livstig I Krig' too
LMAO - No idea why that hit me so hard, but totally made it worth reading through the comments! Must be the blistering tangential sarcasm.

@@henkebacklund OMG! That 2min video just told me how much alcohol I would need to learn Czech -.-
Joachim occasionally ends up jumping through the pyrotechnics when his enthousiasm gets the better of him.
I do not think Joakim's relationship with his knee is entirely consensual. I think the pyrotechnics are the smaller issue there XD
Thank you for this video. This song has special meaning to me as a branch of my family fought in the Warsaw Uprising.
So, I just discovered your channel a few days ago, and I'm so glad. Anyway, Sabaton is an amazing band, and they are all history lovers. They don't think of themselves as rock stars. They consider themselves first, and foremost, as storytellers. They find great stories of history.
A few side notes about Woodstock festival.
-today it's called Pol'and Rock
-free entry
-in 2012 there were about 750.000 people
And yes finally my favourite band :)
Those numbers varie a lot. Anywhere from 500k to 850k
I got to see them in 2019 for my one year anniversary to my wonderful husband who if I had not meet and married would not have know this band existed. They are great live and I love this band.
Great atmosphere and what a inspiring and therapeutic song for the Poles....!
There is no drummer to ever make drumming look so effortless as Hannes
It amazes me that no matter what nation they perform for they always give you that feeling of ‘wait a moment, that power he is talking about are my people’ normal history lessons normally don’t give you a connection to that part of your ancestry. Even a German audience gets to feel good about the force their people are capable of generating.
Sabaton love putting in little pieces of the language of the people they are singing about and the crowds in those countries love it and participate all the harder. This being a festival in Poland those two words are powerful.
You should do "Fields of Verdun" by Sabaton next time.
my favorite part about sabaton is joakims energy, all of them seem to love what they do but i am 100% certain that joakim would spend his very last breath singing
You are a MetalHead!!! I love your post!!! I am Polish and like your comments!!! Poland is always strong!!
Should check out Yannis Papadopoulos cover of Ghost Love Score.
Yes. I wholeheartedly agree.
Yes yes and yes!
Yessss!!!!!
To hear more of Joakim, try Ghost Division or Primo Victoria. The energy is awsome. En livstid i krig to get chills from the crowd singalong.
the last stand is also amazing and bizmarck
I sencond this!
These guys are amazing live! I have been at one of their concerts in Oslo. Love that they sing about historical and heroic events - very inspiring and energizing!
