Towards the end of the video you go over how you did lighting and gave everything a claymation type of style. How did you make your bazir circles and the rocket all one object to be able to unwrap them. I have tried Ctrl + J, but they never join together.

By looking around i found that you can convert them from curves to meshes. But, in doing that makes the fins have really strange topology. What would be the best way of cleaning that up so the clay look isn't strange?

for joining the meshes, select the meshes you want to join , click f3 and search join and click on it . Voila!
