Can we get a shout-out for Pete’s songwriting skills?
His demos are always so well done and composed. It may go unnoticed to most, but if you have done studio work or just played at a high level for any period of time at all, you realize just how tough it is to make everything Pete is doing look as easy as he makes it look. There’s a reason he’s one of the first calls for all the big sessions and touring bands 🤘🏼
@@Scratch_Monsters_Golf This needs to be said. There's a million gear demo channels these days, and some of the guys can actually play, fewer still have something interesting to say, but nobody has the chops and smarts AND the value-added of great original arrangements like Pete. He really is on his own level.
@@ue4058 you are probably already hip to Shawn Tubbs, but if not check out his channel and gear demos. He doesn’t put out as much material as Pete, but he’s another first call session guy that always has some absolutely killer demo tunes. Format is very similar to Pete’s and he would probably admit that he snagged a lot of inspiration for his demo format from Pete. Unlike a lot of others who ripped Pete’s format, though, Shawn can flat out do it. He keeps it tasty most of the time, but when he does decide to step out and bend your ear...the instant realization of just how good he truly is is frightening.
He's AMAZING !!! I remember when I was a kid in the 1970's I was reading an article about Jimmy Page. He said "I don't know". "I just do what I do". I think the same can be said about Pete.
He is a session player more than a songwriter
I love Pete Thorn's playing !!
9:41 - I have been hearing these ghost tones in some of my amps for YEARS and it was driving me crazy because I didn't know what they were called, or if they were even normal. Glad to know I'm not crazy. 🤣
You are one of the most incredibly tasteful lead players I’ve heard. Great writing and tone. Thanks🤘
thank you Jim!
Pete wakes up, lays down a hit song in 3 minutes, eats breakfast.
How do you always keep it fresh ? Unbelievable. Oh well, time to buy more gear again.
I’m glad you like the tunes! :)
So true
As soon as I saw that thumbnail of Pete and the Wampler Belle, I knew it was gonna be good. He did not disappoint. I’ve had the Belle since it was first released and love it!
Brian wampler simply makes good shit.
Your riffs are always the best and you always come up with a great song. Your demos are better than most of the music on radio! Thank you for doing what you do Pete!
Thanks!!
I agree, these songs kick ass!
Thanks
As others have stated, your playing speaks for itself. What also puts your reviews at my search-center is your clear articulation of what you hear happening and your ability to display it. Two thumbs up!
I love Wampler pedals man. My Wampler compressor is one of those "always on" pedals for me.
Amen..
Wampler makes really great mini pedals. I'm really diggin that suhr green machine
Every time I come to hear you play, i always impressed by your playing and artistry and that you are just cool guy
Hey thank you!
It's also because he's Canadian! ;)
Killer phrasing as always Pete!! You rock brother!
I don't even play guitar, but I love these intro tracks!
Everything I hear Pete play is full of flavour.
I plugged it into my tube amp and it sounded great. What I didn’t expect was when I plugged this into my $100 hotone 5 watt solid state mini amp head that it would make it sound more like an organic tube amp. Really blown away because that open more airy sound I usually cannot get out of this solid state head and now I am even considering making this my practice and smaller venue rig 😐
Mr. Thorn, my sincerest gratitude to you, sir. I've learned more from your single channel about matters of tone-awareness, practical usage/application of effects, and general signal-chain knowledge than any/all other contributors. I thank you for sharing both your wisdom and talent (with a humble demeanor, even). Sincerely, your content is much appreciated by this Nashvillian. Keep up the great work!
Mighty fine licks in that intro!!!! World class
Thanks Neil!
Seems like a good update to the famous Nobels circuit, especially adding a bass control. Thanks for the demo.
That middle ground is about as clean as most guitars bshould be to me. Love Brian, and great job showing what the pedal can do, as usual.
Had the ODR-1 but always struggled with too much bass. Bought this one as soon as Wampler released it. Love the additional controls and the added switch.
Great video! You should invite Brian to your sunday live and discuss all catagories, delay, reverb, modulation, compression, but especially the difference and similaraties between a plexi pedal and a real plexi.
Would be a good idea, u are right
Let’s do it 😊
Pete, you do a great job of getting the goods out of any pedal you demo. Maybe you could share your secrets of dialing in various pedals for different amps and guitars sometime?
What great timing….mine just arrived today! Great demo!
Pedal does a great job of creating bite without being harsh. Another stellar demo Pete.
I have it. It is a sweet pedal. Nice and open, clear and smooth. Very organic. Haven't tried it with other pedals yet, but I assume that it will be great stacked with other overdrives, since it's a mid-gain pedal.
Bought it, love it. If you own a Tele, try this pedal.
And a Strat, 335 and Gold Top P 90. They all like this pedal :-)
I could listen to you play all day!
Excellent video review Pete!!!🙌🏻And I agree with the side button IN the pedal sounds fantastic adding a new thing completely different than the original tone!
To me this is an awesome overdrive that Brian Wampler put his own vision giving us an extremely versatile little drive!!!
KIller pedal, Wampler does dirt pedals very well.
This pedal sounds amazing on clean amps as well. I have an old Princeton that loves this pedal. Very affordable too!!!
I use mine with a Brown Vibrolux. Beautiful!
Man that green Strat tone reminds me so much of Tim pierce. Gorgeous tones and even better feel and playing!!
Thanks!
Pete! You're an awesome player and an amazing vid maker. Please keep killing it, you're greatly appreciated.
Wow , I really like this little pedal , wasn't expecting much , but it has a subtleness with just enough punch
That pedal sounds amazing!!!
Owned several ODR-1s and an XTS modded Mini. Honestly like the Belle best of all
And another fine video, thanks Pete. Was always curious about the Nobels. Do you prefer the Wampler over the Nobels?
Thanks to Pete, I now have way more icing than my cake probably needed. I was just gonna get an ODR Mini, then I saw the original designer had a couple of new, improved versions under his own name, with bass, mid, spectrum and 'decompression' controls. THEN I saw the boutique price and began weighing options-seems Mr. Wampler had some similar ideas at about half the price, so...another green box joins the choir.
I have a Belle and a Timmy ... love them both. IMO the Belle makes the Timmy sound like it has a blanket over it. Both have their place, but the Belle is rapidly becoming my desert island pedal. Great demo!
And the knobs on the Timmy are so small they should call it the Tiny Timmy.
I know exactly what you mean about the elusive middle ground. Also the bit about not hearing drive till the track is singled out. Very good points, Pete.
Those grooves you were doing are great! Bam!!
The tracks in the opening song layered well. Different parts jelled together well
This is really my territory as far as gain. As much as I love wild sounding fuzzes, when I buy them I find I don't really have all that much use for them with my music. (Coincidentally, the Wampler Velvet Fuzz is the one that made the cut of all the fuzzes I've gone through, and is on my board) This kind of chimey low to mid gain punch would be very useful to me. Thanks for a great demo!
Brent Mason uses a few Wamplers including his own Hot Wired pedal.
Pete - I really appreciate you taking the time to do these videos. Your knowledge, experience and easy straight forward delivery make it a pleasure to learn from you. I especially appreciate the attention to the production value you invest in these videos. You are an inspiration that is helping me to make better music. Thank you brother!
Liked the Timmy comparison. Hope to see that in future vids
My ODR1-mini does a scooped sound much differently than my Timmy. If you push the ODR's Spectrum full clockwise, the Timmy can't emulate that. If you try, by cranking the bass and treb up, you get a lot of high freq hiss a low-end graininess on the Timmy.
To me, that's the selling point of the ODR circuit, it's ability to do a really scooped OD well.
That green Suhr is just great.
Pete, thanks for playing the pedal with an AC-30 style amp. I can’t wait to try it myself! Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it sound as great as you, but I’ll enjoy trying!
Great video, thanks Pete! I love this pedal. The name says exactly what it does * Belle *. I need it as my main rhythm crunch sound. For Lead stuff i added the 1 or 2 Duke of Tone MXR overdrives. For me, Brian Wampler does the better tone control with the Belle than the Nobels ODR-1. The next pedal I test is the latest Nordland ODR-CS!
Green seems to really suit you Pete, especially that lovely strat. I recently bought this pedal for exactly the kinds of tones you demo’d here (I haven’t used it yet due to working my arse off building a home). Also, I recall you being a BIG fan of the original Nobels pedal.
Well done again.
Just love how you hear those tones and emulate them out for us to hear!
Great playing - as usual. Great pedal - as usual. What I want is a good look at the desk-top clamp Pete uses to hold the pedals he demos. It's taken me a long time to figure out Pete knows as much about gear layout as he does about playing and tone - which, as we all know is considerable if not awesome - and to figure out I need a desktop clamp, too, for deep-diving into particular pedals. This on-the-floor crap is pretty stale for home studios...
Your playing is amazing, Sir!
Awesome Pete. I really dig this pedal. Great demo & playing as always!
Evening Peter. I like Green. Want one.
I love the descending licks in the opener, I truly thank you for your influence!
Thanks!
Shout!! I think I met Pete w Headpins in Lewiston, Idaho at Tomfoolery/Boomers. Very nice guy and great player.
I really need a few more guitars in my life. It's incredible what a different guitar can do for your riffs/style/tone.
Awesome intro. Chord changes and solos. So tasty. I just bought a Belle and am blown away. I have plugged in close to the end of the chain, it actually brings clarity to my other dirt pedals.
Love the Manny's cable. Think I have one of those around here... (Yeah this is old. Just came back to this while a friend is checking out Belles for himself, and now I might want one for the front of my Dr Z.)
Enjoyed hearing the Thornbuckers split. That P90 tone was pretty tasty too.
I love my old ODR-1 with a BB Preamp pedal in front of it. Makes the bass heavy ODR-1 much more manageable. The Belle may very well be the next pedal in the board. Thanks for the demo man!
From Pete's description it seems similar to a Xotic BB Comp (where you can remove or add more compression) actually. Would you confirm the similarity ?
Moreover, the BBComp in "more comp" mode is supposed to be similar to a Timmy.
I prefer it without compression at the end of the chain.
Liking this pedal.... would get but just ordered a RYRA klone, using a Diaz Ranger n Xotic Super Clean boost for my drive I have a love/hate relationship with my TS lol Maybe sooner than later I've been wanting to get one of Brian pedals
@@paulcowart3174 Recently, I like the articulation of a Boss BD-2(w) though, with something in front.
Thank you very much and kind regards from the Nobels Team
If I didn't already have an ODR-1, this would have been a GASquisition as soon as it was released and I saw Brian's video. I actually recommended it over the ODR-1 to a guy on TGP a few months back.
I also have an ODR-1, not sure of it's exact vintage (got it used.) Really liked the sound but it started having an intermittent power problem seemingly to do with the input jack. Pretty sure I can fix it eventually, but was too bummed to mess with it. Besides, I have a Cochrane Timmy so I'm good. If I had it to do over again, I'd go for the Wampler for sure (the Belle didn't exist when I bought my ODR-1.)
A really nice small box pedal, might be just what I'm looking for. I'll be considering this one for sure.
Wampler makes such great products…
Brian is a genius.
a good demo . thank you
The Green Machine... that green Suhr is a beauty!
Sounds like a brilliant solution for someone who plays guitar and bass with that bass control! I really dig your demos and your fantastic playing!
Love this pedal with my compressor
Just ordered the Nobels 🤘
Master Pete, doesn't get any better !! Great pedal Pete thanks again for the awesome demo, Cheers brother 👍
Just the ticket. Nice demo of a nice pedal! Thank you, Sir!
I also have got the Belle and I like the most of my overdrives. It sounds so - musical, but I prefer it more with Singlecoils. It also sound great with a Klon-Style Overdrive before (like Tumnus Wampler for example). I haven´t knew that with the switch in the pedals goes more open sound, it´s a very slight change. Thanks for your video and Tips!
This is the Tele pedal.
Just simply masterful skills in composing/playing and great reviews. Man, what a talent! BTW Santa brought me a Belle...to fire it up tomorrow!
Wonderful tones!
Awesome playing!
Hello Pete sounds great and amazing composition on your demo tune as usual!
Righteous intro song! Cool stuff, PT.........Greetings from Memphis, Tennessee.
You are good Pete Thorn!!!
Wow Pete, this looks like an absolutely great drive pedal. Such a wide diversity of tonal controls and variations. Wonder how this will compare to the Walrus Tom Quayle I'm getting soon. Of course, it's a pedal with two circuits which immediately differentiates it. If any of you guys read this and have any thoughts on this, please let me know.
All this mention of green, I had to check my calendar to make sure it wasn't St. Patrick's Day!~
Great review as always, awesome playing.
Green shirt - Green Pedal - Green Guitar...You have reached a whole new level of COOL!
all he needs now is a green amp
I still Cant get over how nice that tone is at 7:15. Textbook edge of breakup.
Hey Pete, I’ve just subscribed to your channel but I’ve been watching your demos for years. Anytime I’m considering buying a new pedal, I always check to see if you’ve done a demo. I just bought a Wampler Belle after watching your demo. Many thanks
Nice! Thanks Pete
Would like to hear Nordland ODR-C compared with Wampler Belle
Thanks for the video, Pete! Do you have a voltage preference for the Belle, 9V-18V?
What a great guitar player you are, man.
I appreciate that! Thank you! I still feel like I’m learning/just getting started
Into a crunchy Marshall, the Timmy I had was a bit too flubby on the low end. Wonder if this Wampler version's bass control can fix it and make it a perfect OD for an already gainy amp??
overloud thu video coming up? that would be interesting i love it thru my headrush frfr speakers!
Sounds great, Pete! Excellent demo as always.
Sounds Great 👌🏻 Thank You Pete 👍🏻
Stellar playing as usual! Love your work! \m/
The olive green Suhr is gorgeous.
Cool minty green Suhr
Pete as always truly good stuff. I have been following you for a while but I do have a question. Out of all the pedals and effects that you have demoed which are you favorites? BTW waiting on my SUHR Pete Thorn Sig - Hot Damn!! Thnx!!
Pete is such an inspiration.
thank you!
Awesome demo!!!
Cool demo - I just got one of these pedals today. I liked the extra control over the tone compared to the original.
Convinced. Just ordered one.
