Hey everyone, just wanted to mention that I'm pretty sure the ocarina David is using for this video is either sharp or tuned to a different key, presumably D flat, so if your ocarina is tuned to C or G the notes you make will not match his. The sheet music and note names being used are in the key of C but the ocarina is definitely either sharp or tuned to D flat. Just wanted to bring it up since it confused me a little, but don't fret too much though, the fingerings/tabs being taught in this video are still 100% correct!
It might be the video sound quality, not his ocarina because you can see it says it’s and Alto C, but you can check with a piano if yours is right or not cuz the problem is def on his end
In Junior High, I picked up the Euphonium. I played all through high school and college. Had the same teacher for Jr. High and High school. I'm only halfway through this video at the moment, and you've already taught me far more than my band teacher ever did. He literally handed me a horn and a book and told me to go practice. Thanks, David. I sincerely appreciate these videos. I'm going to enjoy my ocarina!!
I had no motivation to play my ocarina, but I didn’t want to let it sit in its box for another year, so I looked up “how to play ocarina” and you were the first to pop up. Thank you for making this video to play along with! I really feel like I’m achieving something, and not just watching a tutorial. You’re a great teacher and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to teach people like me how to play this beautiful instrument :)
I know I'm REALLY late to the party, but I just want you to know that I'm fighting depression and your videos gave me motivation to start a new project in life. See you in some years when I will be capable of playing the ocarina. Thank you for everything, man. You're awesome
As someone who has also struggled with depression/anxiety for most of my life, I’m really happy to hear that ☺️ If you need a little extra motivation, be sure to join my discord, the link’s in the description!
Really glad you’re redoing this series! I’ve recently started trying to learn to read sheet music and your videos have been helping a ton! It’s never really “clicked” till your videos so thanks!
I've regconized, that this series is the redoing of those, I've watched about 18 months ago.... Well, it wasn't a german tutorial... but yours is the best I've found and it's worth every second I've spend. (beg my pardon for bad language. Those who find grammar or writing errors, may keep them safe and sound ;-P )
I played trumpet for two years in elementary school, then switched to guitar for 15 years. Ordered my first ocarina on your recommendation, the Night by Noble, and I'm very excited to step into this new phase of my musical journey ☺️ My main flute instrument influences are ancient, and native styles. I hope to one day be able to elucidate the same spiritually stimulating types of music my ancestors played.
I think it's been 10 years since I first saw one of your ocarina performance videos here on RUclips. I donated on Kickstarter back in 2016, and bought my first ocarina, but never really picked it up due to other projects. I think now is my time to learn, and I get to finally learn to play an ocarina from the musician I was amazed by all those years ago. Thank you.
bro you're awesome literally I had've lost my faith and I thought I was never gonna be able to play any instrument but after watching your videos I decided to buy an ocarina and give it a try, after the first 3 lesson iI'm already starting to read the lyrics honestly you have a gift for teaching keep up the good work your channel is awesome I was able to play both songs in less than 1 hour.
Thank you so much! This was the first time I've ever actually read sheet music and it really was a thrill! I love how you didn't reveal what the songs were until the sheet music was played.
I’ve said it twice in other videos and ima say it a third time. You are absolutely the best teacher I’ve witnessed after being a musician for twenty years myself. I know how to play guitar, bass, ukulele, a little bit of flute, and a little bit of drums. I know how to read tabs and I have an ear for music but I have never ever ever been able to comprehend sheet music and music theory until I came across you. I’m a guitar player at heart but I’ve fallen in love with ocarina and I’m learning how to read music finally by learning the ocarina through you. Been meaning to sign up for your patreon and get your book so I’m doing that soon. Thanks and I pray you have a long healthy life to continue to share your mastery. 💖🙏💖.
Really glad you're rebooting! I recently picked up the ocarina as a hobby while studying abroad and the only hope i had of learning was the unfinished series four years ago :( Waiting on the rest of the episodes ASAP!
Just got my ocarina and looked up instructional vids. Yours popped up. I'm happy so far as I'm a complete beginner. I did a piano class once in elementary forever ago. When you talked about face and every good boy does fine, I was transported to that class long ago. Now I get to become familiar with it all over again 😊 Mary had a little lamb doesn't sound quite right at the end when I play it. Maybe it's user error. I've been practicing song 2 for an hour now and I am starting to notice a difference. I am noticing when the notes sound off sometimes how to fix it, like making sure my fingers have a good seal, or double checking I'm making the "to" sound with each beat instead of one continuous breath. Just keep practicing guys. You'll get better!
I got lucky I guess! My Ocarina Of Time is tuned well! It plays a bit low, but I think I should be thankful it’s even in tune at all! I used a q-tip for a little clean-out tho so the notes were clearer. I found it at a stand that was selling it for only 50$ too. What a bargain! And thanks to you, I just learned to play two classic songs! My social anxiety doesn’t kick in either and I play really well! Thanks!
These lessons are truly amazing! I was intrigued by this instrument and since I own a 3D printer I was able to make one for myself. It works surprisingly well and with your help I was able to play these songs in a breeze!
This is great! I have wanted to learn how to play the Ocarina for about 25 years. I have bought many over the years, and finally, I am actually playing. I hope you can add the locations of the two songs into the video description so we can just jump to them directly if we want to read and practice them.
I'm currently waiting for my night by noble to arrive in the mail. I have been playing guitar for 13 years, and reading music has always been a weakness of mine. You are quite good at teaching, even if I'm just whispering tuu to practice along in advance until the mail comes. 😂😂😂 Honestly you break it down quite well, I am learning even without ocarina in hand. This instrument will be how I learn to traditionally read and perform music.
Amazing how one video builds my confidence. Before this I was just dooting along but feeling like swimming in an ocean, now I can actually plan 2 songs!
I've bought Ocarina for a year, but never started to play before! So from today, I start to learn from this video... And did a good job today Will continue the next lesson for the next day Thank you Erick! 🙏
Okay, so I tried to follow this series a few months ago when I got my ocarina, and kinda gave up and my poor ocarina was laying in my drawer all sad and lonely but I decided to try again, and honestly, now I think I am getting some things and just enjoying learning! Thank you for your lessons
Your an amazing teacher. Was put off music when I learned drums a while back. You made me want to play again. I printed an ocarina and am now learning.thanks!
I am not sure if there is something wrong on my end, but whenever you play a C, it sounds like a C#. I even pulled out a tuner to check, and sure enough, it is a C#. Is that just the way that ocarinas are tuned, or is there some other reason?
it’s definitely C#, tested on my piano and a tuner, i thought i was crazy but my ocarina is perfectly in tune, his being sharp makes it hard to play along, but still a great tutorial! I didn’t realize I watched him like 8 years ago for the safe and sound cover, I almost bought an ocarina then but it was harder to find em!
I went from no clue how to read sheet music at all to kinda knowing and being able to play simple songs through sheet music. Just a couple hours. You are awesome~
No ocarina??? 😲 What's stopping you? 😉 Songbird ocarina has some GREAT ocarinas at reasonable prices. Even the plastic ones seem pretty good. STL ocarinas has a lot of good quality affordable ones, too. I have a plastic one from STL that's pretty decent. Good place to start. I have many (too many to count) and I love them all. David Erik Ramos is a great teacher, so if you get your hands on an ocarina, follow his lessons and you'll be happy to see how easy it is to get good at playing! 👍🏻😉
Night by Noble, 30 bucks at AMAZON. If it's too expensive for you at the moment, TOTMC have an amazingly beautiful Ocarina for around 10 bucks!!! It's not gonna sound as great as the other, but it's a good start (and it's really beautiful!)
Started taking the lesson after hearing about your warning about the Zelda Ocarina. I tried practicing along and I could tell that I got lucky with mine and it’s tune. Thank you for the lessons!
I just wanna say that a dear friend ordered your book for me recently and I've since learned to play "Merrily We Roll" and this book is FANTASTIC! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to learn to play ocarina! Thank you for taking the time to put such a thing together, David! P.S. Any chance you could do a guitar book? Or harmonica? :D
Man you make this looks totally easy for a newbie. Never touched a single instrument in my life, printed in 3d this Ocarina and now I'm learning a lot from you. You rock, sir.
I must've spend an hour and a half trying to get Ode to Joy, it took me so long to finally learn how to match my fingers to what I was seeing. Man is it satisfying once do you though, I ended up taking a break trying it again the next day and got it PERFECT first try!
wow youre such a good teacher like god lolol i love the idea of having us read and try to guess the beat before playing. It really challenged me! Thank you so much for this!
I got a resin 3d printer for my birthday. Saw an Ocarina on Thingiverse so I printed it... it's surprisingly not that out of tune, really close to being in tune in fact. I had no idea what to do with it as I've never played any wind instruments before. Thanks to your lessons brushing me up on reading music - something that I havent done since I was a kid - and learning what notes were what on an ocarina, I'm getting back into music. Maybe I should get a new keyboard too lol. Anyway, great stuff, man!
Just got covid and I am in isolation for ten days, I figured I'd pick up one of those awful Zelda ocarina's I got many years ago as a gift. The tone definitely sucks! But better than nothing, thank you so much your videos are excellent and so thoughtful!
I swear with the way these videos are structured I really thought I was back in middle school band class first learning to play the clarinet. Funny thing actually, I noticed that the way the you play notes on the ocarina is surprisingly similar to the way we would play notes on the clarinet. I'm thinking this is because there both woodwind instruments so they might have a similar way to play each note. Edit: Take being compared to my middle school band teacher as a complement because I apparently had a much better band teacher then everyone else in these comments!
I like this, this does help me learn the music a little. I'm not really good. But mom think I was getting a little better. So thanks I'm enjoying this and it's really fun to learn.
Thank you very much for your tutorial series. It helps me a Lot to understand and learn playing the ocarina ❤. Your videos are great to learn from the beginning. Thank you very much and greatings from germany 👍
Hi. I am so happy find. you. I want to really play ocarina. In my whole life that is first time, that I want to learn any music instrument. You make really good.
This hells me a lot with timing! Thanks a lot! And I don't wanna sound rude but I am playing using a tuner and it says most of your notes here are sharp... Could be my device or you mic though
Hi David, love love love your videos. Also heard your "Battle" video with the orchestra!!! So beautiful. I'd to get a metronome (app?) that distinguishes beat one from the other beats. Could you suggest one for me? I've played music for years but never actually read music until your videos. When the student is ready the teacher will appear and sure enough, here you are. Thanks so much and your music is FABULOUS.
Hi Susan, thank you for your kind message and I’m happy the videos have been helpful! The metronome app I use is called “Tempo” and I also use an electronic metronome, the “TM60” by KORG, which you can find in most music stores an Amazon.
I just got my ocarina today I am so excited to start playing! I have an AC Night By Noble and the same notes from the video sound different when I play them. Which type of ocarina do you have?
I’m playing the standard Noble plastic AC, which tends to play a little sharp since it’s tuned to A442. If you’d like to play along with me, you may just need to give your ocarina a little more air. But don’t make a habit of it 😅
My forest whisper came today and I've been watching your videos for about a week, I am just trying to get a hang of the blowing I am not using to just blowing after harmonica playing where you blow and inhale
I feel bamboozled by the sight reading exercise lol I've been in music since high school (I'm 28 now and out of college) and my weaknesses still are sight-reading and understanding chords. I feel RickRoll'd when I figured out what the song was by attempting to play along before David actually started the metronome lol
I mostly want to learn how to play the ocarina so that I have an instrument that I can take with me, but I have a feeling that I'll improve my piano skills a lot simply due to the fact that I'm actually reading sheets properly this time
That’s awesome! Piano was actually my first instrument, and I struggled a lot with learning to read music. It wasn’t till I picked up ocarina years later that my sight reading skills drastically improved. Hoping you see the same results!
@@DavidErickRamos yeah same. As you are usually confronted with 3+ notes at the same times it's a bit overwhelming without putting in a lot of effort into reading alone (and obviously we want to play) Seems more approachable with the Ocarina or woodwinds in general
Thanks so much man, really appreciate the videos. I thought I could never sightread but its so easy now the way you explain it (or maybe I was just a really sassy kid haha). Nonetheless really good content, love it!
My question is, my ocarina is split holed. So lets say you hold down the hole closer to the middle of the Ocarina (the one closest to your mouth and 1 above that), if I press down the split one with my middle finger on the opposite side of the Ocarina, is it the same note?
I have a question starting in key c whats the scale how to go up and down im learning to play have 2 dubble ocarinas from stl ocarina and the tabs of it is hard to understand how to play and no instuctions so can you help me?
I have a 9 hole ocarina. Can i still use the tabs that ate shown here for the note's or are there different ones for a 9 hole ocarina if so can you do a tutorial on the 9 hole?
So, I used to play trumpet back in the day and when I played that they tought us to use our tongue between notes, do I do this here or do I just pause my blowing?
Does this work on a 7 hole Orcaina? Also I'm having a hard time getting my Orcaina to sound right. It sounds like I'm just blowing in air. Do you have a video about breathing just right?
Yay yay yay I'm so happy! I could do it, I could play along and it's all because you're a great teacher!! 😍💕😃🙏🥰 Thanks so much, I'm very happy finally getting into ocarina playing. Mine is the exact one you advised against though, and it really sounds terrible :'( So I'm saving up for a better one! See you next lesson 💖
Apparently I suck so much my cat decided she had to take matters into her own paws to stop me and kept batting at my hands while I was playing Ode to Joy until I stopped. Great tutorials though! I've never been able to read sheet music either but you make it far simpler than I ever thought possible.
Hi! I started ocarina about a week ago. Mine is the Phoenix from STL. I've practiced using Gina's two fundamental videos. However, I noticed that my ocarina sounds "off" compared to yours here. Like, a bit lower pitched? Is it just cuz my ocarina is a different kind from yours? Thank you for these exercises! I'm absolutely loving my ocarina. 😊
It’s actually my ocarina. I didn’t realize until after filming that Noble ocarinas are tuned sharper than other ocarinas, so I’m playing slightly sharp. Your ocarina is probably fine 😉
@@DavidErickRamos Thank you for the clarification and also for taking the time to reply! I'm very excited to continue by ocarina journey. I'm going to purchase your book soon and I can't wait to play like you someday. 😁
David, I downloaded some tabs for the Westworld theme and it indicated you should be able to play a low g on the alto c 12 hole, and I can't find good instructions for how to play this note. Do you cover it in any of your videos?
It seems like my ocarina is off by one note. When I try to play C it doesn't sound like the video unless I uncover the first hole, like if I were playing D
i play clarinet and bass clarinet, and is the ocarina music in Bb? because im pretty sure you said the note was c, and she note on the sheet looks the same as a clarinet C (clarinets are in Bb.) im just curious because if it is in Bb it would make my life a world easier because i can read Bb music lol
Today I was particing this video try downloading an app for the metronome but it's says alegro rithim. How do I set it do follow the 4 rithim. Learning what dots means I live it thank you

I must've spend an hour and a half trying to get Ode to Joy, it took me so long to finally learn how to match my fingers to what I was seeing. Man is it satisfying once do you though, I ended up taking a break trying it again the next day and got it PERFECT first try!
That’s so awesome, congrats!!
Just got my ocarina today! I watched the first two lessons and this one. I can play this last song! Cool!
wow youre such a good teacher like god lolol i love the idea of having us read and try to guess the beat before playing. It really challenged me! Thank you so much for this!
I don't have an ocarina yet, so I'm just over here blowing into the air 😂
Haha, if you need some suggestions, check out this video about beginner ocarinas! ruclips.net/video/WZIViB8sYyg/видео.html
Bruh same im just going “tuuuu” to ready my lungs for when i get one
I just ordered that same ocarina you're holding. I'm so hyped up to practice playing ocarina!!
Your lessons are very great! thank you. 💖😄You explain so well!
When you told me to read the song I was so confused I just looked at it overwhelmed
My ocarina should be coming in today. I'm excited to get started!
Fantastic! Teaching this has really helped my play my Ocarina. It's easy to understand and follow. I cannot wait to get started 😊😊😊😊
I like this, this does help me learn the music a little. I'm not really good. But mom think I was getting a little better. So thanks I'm enjoying this and it's really fun to learn.
I love this series very much so I am watching again 😄😄😄
Excellent. I just bought an ocarina for my daughter and will buy your book if it is in Amazon Germany.
Was it a bad idea to play at 10:30 when everyone is trying to sleep?
play the sun song and make it day lol
Thank you very much for your tutorial series. It helps me a Lot to understand and learn playing the ocarina ❤. Your videos are great to learn from the beginning. Thank you very much and greatings from germany 👍
Hi. I am so happy find. you. I want to really play ocarina. In my whole life that is first time, that I want to learn any music instrument. You make really good.
You can do it!
I played it! wow it felt unreal. thank you.
I'm going to practice this until I have these songs memorized. Because I want to play for others and learn how to write my own music.
Thank you so much for these videos. You're a great teacher!
I feel bamboozled by the sight reading exercise lol
I've been in music since high school (I'm 28 now and out of college) and my weaknesses still are sight-reading and understanding chords. I feel RickRoll'd when I figured out what the song was by attempting to play along before David actually started the metronome lol
Learned in Spanish Si La Sol Fa Mi Re Do and it’s so hard to transition to A B C D E F G but I’m trying. Loving these.
I was super confused until I found this video! Thank you thank you thank you! :DDDDD
Is your ocarina tuned differently?? Isnt the starting note supposed to be a c? Genuine question aaa
As you are usually confronted with 3+ notes at the same times it's a bit overwhelming without putting in a lot of effort into reading alone (and obviously we want to play)
Seems more approachable with the Ocarina or woodwinds in general
Hello. Thanks a lot. 🍃
I have problem with metronome and breaks. What can i do about it?
The apps i downloaded are faster than yours.
I have a 9 hole ocarina. Can i still use the tabs that ate shown here for the note's or are there different ones for a 9 hole ocarina if so can you do a tutorial on the 9 hole?
I felt so accomplished when I was able to read the first song with ease AGHHHH!!!
🏆
i'm double jointed so my fingers bend when i have to hold in the holes. What do I do so I don't get arthritis?
3 time your gonna play solo
Caus your that good
Thanks mwan😊
Thank you for such a great help with learning ocarina!
Thanks so much, I'm very happy finally getting into ocarina playing. Mine is the exact one you advised against though, and it really sounds terrible :'(
So I'm saving up for a better one!
See you next lesson 💖
Congrats on following along! Let me know if you need any suggestions on a new ocarina ☺️
Thx a lot for the Videos. I never had think i can ever Play Ocarina :D
Thank you! Perfect class! I am learnig with the vídeos, super happy!
Apparently I suck so much my cat decided she had to take matters into her own paws to stop me and kept batting at my hands while I was playing Ode to Joy until I stopped. Great tutorials though! I've never been able to read sheet music either but you make it far simpler than I ever thought possible.
Phantastisch zum Lernen, danke !!
What is the brand/model of the ocaria you are using in this video?
He's using the night by noble. should be able to pick it up on amazon.
@@NeroWolf42 Thanks Nero for your answear. That might be the next one. I have now the Blue Sweet Potato and it has bee so cool to learn to play that!
i play clarinet and bass clarinet, and is the ocarina music in Bb? because im pretty sure you said the note was c, and she note on the sheet looks the same as a clarinet C (clarinets are in Bb.) im just curious because if it is in Bb it would make my life a world easier because i can read Bb music lol
This is an amazing class! Thank you!
Today I was particing this video try downloading an app for the metronome but it's says alegro rithim. How do I set it do follow the 4 rithim. Learning what dots means I live it thank you
The only music class I’ve ever enjoyed
Every music teacher dreams of hearing that, thank you 🥲
Never played an instrument in my life before, this seems easier than I thought. I guess I might change my mind later xD.
