i love how u love them! i am using W&N and Van Gogh student level. But now that i want to improve in painting and make it a proper hobby i orderd the 18 color schmincke set, whisky palette & 2 of the super granulating ones. i cannot wait!
Schmincke watercolours are unparalleled, in my opinion. Superior to all other manufacturers, although Kremer make some useful and unique colours, W&N do also make a few workhorse pigments too. Can’t help but be biased when they’re just so so stunning!
I adore Schmincke too. Best of absolutely every brand I tried. They are so smooth, so rich and delicate at the same time. Exactly what I find watercolor should be.
Yes I do have a set of daniel smith colors too! I just haven't got the time to review them but yeaaa they are really fun to use too! It's part of my top 10!
Did you pay any duties buying from Jacksons? I live at Canada and I consider buying from them, but I’m afraid about the duty… do you know the % they tax this kind of material?
It honestly depends. There's three types of shipping like international post, FedEx, or the other option... I've ordered from Jackson's four times now and there was a time they shipped international tracked shipping for 30 days and declared a different value than what was inside. So I didn't have to pay taxes for that. But whenever I choose FedEx (cause I want to see things right away) I had to pay for shipping fees 25 plus and taxes on top of that. I may have my mind mixed up with other services cause I do recall that choosing this option lately means when you pay by FedEx you also pay taxes so you don't need to pay the add on once it gets delivered to you. In the past, I missed a delivery and had to claim in in the FedEx store. As for how much percent they tax, it's about the same depending where you are from in Canada. Like... Different provinces tax things differently. Tho if the item as around 25 or was it less than 40? It's usually free from being taxed. There are websites better equipped to tell you the exact numbers. But tbh, the prices of the taxed goods for certain art materials overseas is still cheaper than the almost 2x markup you find here in Canada. So, before I want to buy stuff from here, Jackson's is one of the first places I check together with eBay ✨ I hope this helps.
Also. I have to add that you should play around with the items in your cart and watch the shipping fees change. They go down after a certain amount of items but I think it's also affected by weight and dimension. 🌟 So I often buy more stuff I like to make sure I get a cheap enough shipping cost. (Sounds counter intuitive I know but sometimes adding more and paying less shipping actually makes you pay slightly more or even less than what it would have cost you if you were only ordering one item or so X.x)
Thanks for the video! I you were to recommend one set of 24/36 (I’ve found both brands online in the same price) - would it be Rembrandt or Schmincke? 😊
I'm quite biased. I would probably go for Schmincke. Rembrandt tends to be more vivid (some reviewers say they added artificial brighteners) so if you like Van Gogh, Rembrandt seems to be a one up in that direction. I have the 12 pan set for Rembrandt and typically find it more expensive than Schmincke where I'm from but I know that price tends to fluctuate depending on where you're buying it. From a collector's perspective, I feel like you should go with your gut instinct. Or you can just buy them both. Right now I already know Schmincke is my favorite brand however, there are certain colors from other sets that out perform other Schmincke paint in certain ways. Not all colors have the same consistency and application, and there are different types of effects depending on the pigment used. Some granulate, some are transparent, some are opaque... SO having said that, when you do find the budget, you can mix and match different brands to make your favorite set :D
@@niervanae3571 Honestly, I think their shipping (to the USA) is VERY reasonable, especially if you have a more expensive order. Try making fewer (but larger) orders. Also, the prices are so good on watercolors that that helps mitigate costs.
@@SaudagarWarna Ahh it's a dark gay fantasy novel :D I'm actually sending out free advanced reader copies right now but I don't know if that's your thing. www.nvleriem.com/arc-signup.html
I would appreciate any constructive criticism though :D if you're open to it, it's close to getting published so I'm not sure how much feedback I can fit.
I too really like Schmincke, I don’t own many other brands but, always return to Schmincke! Thanks
