    Congratulations on attaining 1000 subscribers! I love PR206 and I'll have to try out some other manufacturers of this color before it disappears. I like the YinMin colors, but if they are limited edition, I don't see the point of falling in love with them only to have them disappear, so I won't be buying them. I don't need another disappearing color. On a different note, it's interesting how the colors look different on hot pressed paper.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Год назад

      Many thanks for your continued support! The pigments definitely appear more pronounced on hot-pressed paper or display with extra definition. Hot-pressed does not have the crevasses of cold-pressed paper for the pigments to settle into. Currently, I am loving the PR206 from Michael Harding Watercolours. It is called Cinquasia Maroon. A. Gallo also has a PR206 that is incredibly lovely. Its name is Quinacridone Chestnut. If you'd prefer MaimeriBlu, their Brown Madder Alizarin is also a PR206.
      YInMn Blue is a "limited edition" one only because they are still testing the market. It is truly unique from all the other blues but it is still sits within the realm of "nice to have" rather than being a necessity. Although I've stocked up on YInMn Blue, realistically down the road, for that kind of investment, I'd treat myself (and my clients) to an extra fine art Fra Angelico Blue. Michael Harding's Genuine Lapis Lazuli (Afghan) is also worth the splurge. As always, I prefer staying within the classic palettes. Thank you again for being here! It means a lot!

      @@stiviwonders It's so hard sometimes to navigate the different lines of color. There is no standardization of names, so thanks for pointing out the different PR206s, it would have taken me some time to track them down.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Год назад

      @@alexandraemrick2799 If it helps, I did not mention Winsor & Newton because they've already started phasing out their PR206 (replacing them with PR179) but some local stores may still have some old stock. The paints that use this pigment are Brown Madder and Permanent Alizarin Crimson. It was a stroke of luck when I found a few tubes at an art supply store in my area.

    • @stiviwonders
      @stiviwonders  Год назад +1

      That is great to know that you love those colors! Aside from the PR206 featured here, my other favorites are Cinquasia Maroon by Michael Harding Watercolours and Quinacridone Chestnut by A. Gallo. I have a few more tubes from Winsor & Newton as well. Horadam's Madder Brown still says PR206 but if the situation for it changes, then I'll inevitably un-love it, which is not an easy process. 😩
      The other colors that I actually have but didn't make it to the video are Neutral Tint, Chrome Oxide Green and Brilliant Opera Rose and the ones featured in this video. ruclips.net/video/-VCuS3JMgcQ/видео.html
      Schmincke discontinued the set that comes with the nice grey leather case but the colors are still part of their catalog.

    You definitely take swatching to a whole new level! I enjoyed watching the whole video, and I loved your descriptions of every colour. So much love and knowledge transpire from the way you work.
    Having grown up with Schmincke Horadam, they always will hold a special place in my heart despite all the other lovely brands. They are my staple watercolours that I automatically reach for. Schmincke have been really busy bringing out new speciality colours. I remember times when their range of watercolours was limited to about 83 colours. Some of them have disappeared in the meantime, but so many new ones have been released. I remember starting my journey with half pans of Gamboge Yellow, Vermillion Red, Alizarin Crimson, Viridian, Prussian Blue and Ultramarine finest. I used that limited palette until I got lucky enough to win their 24 full pan box palette in a competition. And the rest is history - I became an avid watercolourist and watercolour paint collector. 😅
    So glad their Burnt Sienna got some love from you. I’m always a little sad when people pooh-pooh it for not being a single pigment colour. I go through Schmincke Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine finest the most because they are both such good mixers.
    Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and lots of new subscriptions to your channel! 😍😍😍

      It always warms my heart when people share anecdotes! I feel that that is deeply personal so I feel honored to be the receiving end of such slice of life. Thank you for your kind remarks too! Burnt Sienna is a must-have for me and it is one of those colors that I use to test for quality. Like you, my favorite thing to do with it is to mix it with Ultramarine, genuine or synthetic. I appreciate your well-wishes and I wish you a meaningful holiday season too! Thank you for being here. 😍😍😍

Hope this information piques further interest!

      I do life sketching, as also sketches from photographs.(so it could be an urban or even an animal. I use a pencil and then I colour all or a part of it, with watercolours, I also try (for more than a year now), to do classic landscape painting, with wet on wet etc, but because of the use of wrong papers at first, as other difficulties I had, I haven't produced a piece that I'd say Im very proud, as I am with my sketches. I didn't give up though! PS I was already do sketching since I was a kid, now at 43, so I'm fairly good at it, not a beginner. Thank you very much!@@stiviwonders

      @@greekveteran2715 Thank you for offering additional information! Generally, I tend to not be prescriptive when it comes to choosing watercolors because for me, palettes are deeply personal. However, since you solicited for some Schmincke direction, what I have found to be helpful is to have mono-pigmented French Ultramarine, Yellow Ochre, and Transparent Sienna (PR101) watercolors on hand. I couldn't recommend Schmincke's Burnt Sienna because it is a mix or a convenience color. These three pigments make excellent starting points for a world of themes, including landscapes and portraits. The trio will offer a lot of mixing possibilities. From here, you may then add any watercolor to your palette based on preference. I admire your tenacious spirit when it comes to pursuing what brings you immense joy and I hope this reply is helpful! Happy New Year to you and happy painting!

      I can't believe that you suggested these colours, because those are 3 from the 5 or 6 I was trying to decide between, to get 3 or 4 of them! Also, I noticed that burnt Sienna looked way better on the Rembrandt series, than on Schmincke, so I didn't put it in my list! You've been helpful, because I'm only one year into watercolours! I really appreciatte it! Happy ne Year full of health to you and yours and happy painting to you too!@@stiviwonders

      @@greekveteran2715 Thank you! Personally, I've been loving the Burnt Sienna from Michael Harding Watercolours. When mixed with Ultramarine Blue or Genuine Lapis Lazuli, the resulting browns are so magical. They look so alive or full of zest. I love landscapes too so it is natural for me to recommend the three ones that I suggested earlier. Please allow me to indulge.
