@@MrChrismlamorte nice try, but it was written about the right, which has only gotten more extreme and authoritarian over the decades. #project2025 is insane.
The lead singer. Tom Cochrane, is considered a Legend and an Icon here in Canada,,,during the late 80s, and 90s, he produced a litany of big hits, including..Life Is A Highway, Boy Inside The Man, Sinking Like A Sunset, Big League, The Untouchable One, Victory Day, Ocean Blues, Good Times, Dreamers Dream, etc.etc....I really hope that you consider checking some of them out sometime...if not for the channel, then even just for yourself...I don't think you'll be disappointed!! I only discovered your channel a few short months ago, but, I absolutely love it!!
this song is about the rise of the fascist right in the 1980s. the phrase "final solution" was used by the german fascists in the 30s and 40s to describe their programme of organized genocide against jews, gypsies, and homosexuals (amongst other groups) they hated.
Here's a suggestion for a new artist to give a listen, if interested. "Marvin Gaye - What's Going On (Official Video 2019)" (by the channel: Marvin Gaye) --When recording the song "What's Going On" and the concept album around it, Marvin drew from the full arsenal of local talent from house arranger David Van De Pitte to the Funk Brothers. Paying for the session himself, Marvin even drafted in extra players. And after two years on the road, Gaye landed in Detroit, where he signed a recording contract with Motown Records. The Funk Brothers were a group of Detroit based musicians who performed the backing to most of "Motown's" recordings from 1959 till the company moved to Los Angeles in 1972. Its members are considered among one of the most successful groups of studio musicians in music history. I'd also suggest watching the music documentary "Hitsville: The Making of Motown" I believe you can find it here on RUclips or on Paramount Plus. Either way if you'd like to know more about "Motown" I'd start there. Anyway, I enjoyed rocking with you, Shon. Thanks for sharing.

This song came out in 1981, coinciding with the election of Ronald Reagan. In the late 1970s, Reagan and his radical right forces were referred to as the "Lunatic Fringe". The Republican Party was a moderate to slightly conservative party at that time, run by people like Nelson Rockefeller, and Reagan opened the doors to 3 main groups that had very little power in the party, but were central to his coalition: 1 The Christian Right 2 Supply Side (Trickle Down) Economics gurus, known for their mantra of "Greed is Good" 3 Strength thru Power Foreign Policy Hawks that often had some of the more paranoid aspects of the Anti-Communist movement of the early post-War years. These groups joined forces with the "Reagan Democrats"--Northern white working class ("Archie Bunker") and white Southern ("Bubba") racists to redefine American politics.
I remember when this came out, in about 1982. It rocked then, and it was meaningful then, but it's much more meaningful now. I bought the record on vinyl LP back then, and I still have it. More on that a little later... The lyrics aren't kidding: "Lunatic Fringe/ We all know you're out there/ You're in hiding/ And you hold your meetings..." Lunatic fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
I can hear you coming
And we know what you're after
We're wise to you this time
(We're wise to you this time)
We won't let you kill the laughter
Lunatic fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season
But you won't get too far
'Cause you've got to blame someone
For your own confusion
We're on guard this time (on guard this time)
Against your final solution
Oh no
We can hear you coming
(We can hear you coming)
No, you're not going to win this time
(You're not gonna win)
We can hear the footsteps
(We can hear the footsteps)
Way out along the walkway (along the walkway)
Lunatic fringe
We all know you're out there
Can you feel the resistance?
Can you feel the thunder?
Oh no
