Each phone (and actual cameras Sony canon Olympus...) process their raw files somehow, to add the colour science and some processing seeing real raw would be 0 and 1 after all. I have recently sold my Xiaomi 14 Ultra and picked up the Vivo X200 Pro - would like to get your opinion on the quality differences between the two if you get your hands on the X200 for testing - so far, I am liking the out of the phone quality more than the Xiaomi in most circumstances.
Hi I haven't got access to a x200 pro so if anyone lends me/sends me one then I'll put it through its paces but I've said it many times going high on the mp count is not the way forward (and yes I know Xiaomi is probably going to end up doing the same in the 15 Ultra). Using a higher MP sensor just to crop in to "fake" a focal lens does not a t the same as a real focal length, its just physics, you don't get the same depth of field you would otherwise ! So the X200 Pro is already at a disadvantage here and we haven't mentioned that it's 3.7x lens is a presicope arrangement compared to the Xiaomi regular type meaning you get a much much better and more natural bokeh than rectangular shape bokeh produced by presicope modules. The main sensor is also smaller than the Xiaomi's and doesn't have a full variable aperture which means that it cannot give access to a better creative workflow. I don't know, like I said I haven't tested it but on paper it sounds like it just it's a straight loser against the Xiaomi. Again I never shoot in "jpg straight out camera" I do not let a device give me what they think a photo should look like. I shoot in RAW manual. It might be a good set of cameras for beginners or for people just wanting good automatic results or don't care about editing their photos afterwards.
@@UpsideLens yep, like I said, will be interested if you can get your hands on it. The sensor is smaller than 1", it is much faster in taking photos and is a brand new sensor from Sony. It's all good mate we all use our cameras differently, me personally I need as blank a canvas as possible with the least amount of processing which neither the X200Pro with its dimensity ISP or Xperia with it's very noisy outputs can give me. To each their own indeed 😉👌
I would have left the aperture up to your personal preference for each scene, and let the iPhone fry - main cam obviously, it did it's own frying when it came to the aux lenses/sensors.🤣
Not a fan of phone manufacturers using very high megapixel sensors in their telephoto modules. Not only it reduces the size of the pixels (worse lowlight performance) but it also only allows the same depth of field on any of those "fake" focal lengths which is just no match to let's say Xiaomi's own dual zoom modules with their different focal lengths and depth of field specifications. You just can't beat physics. Apart from that Vivo doesn't play as nice with third party apps like motion cam or mcpro24fps when it comes to stability and integration which is a must to me especially when it comes to the video aspect. Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the best phone for high end video recording with third party apps beating pretty much any phone in existence and coming extremely close to high end mirrorless cameras in terms of capabilities of recording options. Hope that helps. Merry Xmas 🎄
That goes to show what I have been saying all along, getting rid of this fixed regular module would be a major downgrade if Xiaomi is to follow what other brands are doing with big periscope modules with higher megapixel count like Vivo and the likes ! A lot of people see it as an upgrade and even to this day tell me the Vivo x200 pro is better when it really is a far cry from the Xiaomi !!! With a sensor purely relying on sensor crops not only do you lose actual depth of field (constant throughout the crop range) but the bokeh loses its natural presentation, and appears rectangular shaped. Let's hope they keep this 3.7x
bro has Ricky Gervais @ 10:00 on the iPhone's shot background xd JPG side, it really is interesting how Apple, Samsung, Pixels (to an extent also Oppo, Vivo* & OnePlus) all oversharpen the image whilst actually having less detail. Normal people/techtubers will look at it at a glance and conclude that iPhone (for example) has more detail, which simply isn't true. Also comes with other caveats such as haloing and artifacting.
Iphone 15 pro Max S24 Ultra X14Ultra i have all 3 but i keep picking X14Ultra because its too interesting there lots going on for it. The rest phones are all the same for years with small innovations. X14U, Vivo, bring new camera qualities & interesting fidgeting settings to play around with, think the two big apple, Samsung need to up there game.
I see you mate, the problem with the big players is that at this point they are where they are because they're crowd pleasers, they try to cater for the masses not for a specific niche and that's where Chinese companies saw an opportunity 👍
The iPhone is great if you want to see everything in a picture, as it brightens everything up, but if you want art and personality to your photos and just control over the camera then the Xiaomi is the one to go for.
I didn't have the iPhone 16 pro max long enough to do a full in comparison. But seeing the iPhone has smaller sensors all around it will struggle for video at night time, that is just a fact. The Xiaomi can record up to 4K60 RAW 14 Bit Video with third party app or 4K120 LOG 10 Bit at 160mbs in mcpro24fps! It is a beast ! All my videos on the channel are now recorded using the Xiaomi 14 ultra (apart from action cam POV shots) so that should help you see how amazing the quality is 👌
I used Lr cam and edit photos there. If I bring highlights down then it was everything ok and sky goes down, not shadows (bringing highlights down)- iPhone 12. I bought 15 Pro Max and used ProRAW and sharing to Lr Mobile to edit. When I bring highlights down most of the times sky goes into slightly gray color or it’s fine but also some parts of shadow too and it’s so grayish color that I never experienced. I hope you understand what I mean. I use -0,3 exposure and shot not in front of the light. Is this normal? I can bring highlights down and bring exposure up but it doesn’t help because photo is too bright. Taken 10000 photos by Lr cam and edit from my iPhone 12 and all was fine. I mean bringing highlights down make shadows grayish, flat.
I can't say I experienced that to be honest but I edited all the photos in Lightroom Classic not lightroom mobile. Maybe try that way as there might be a glitch. Otherwise maybe try shooting with a separate app like moment, I hear they're good for manual settings. I know that doesn't really answer your question but again I never had this issue with the proraw files on PC
I am using the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but when recording video in low light, switching to focal lengths 3.2 and 5 noticeably darkens the image compared to the main focal length. Have you encountered this issue on your device?
Really depends what you're using, if you're using the stock app then it will most likely look pretty poor (too much processing going on) I highly recommend an called mcpro24fps, it is fairly complex but the footage that comes out of it is just leaps and bounds ahead of the stock app !
@marcosrossi9600 yes for photos I use the stock app indeed but I shoot either in RAW or Ultra RAW depending on lighting and manual mode 99% of the time. 👍
Just like you would with a regular camera, I wish phone manufacturers pushed features like bracketing that would be awesome ! For now if you really want to get something similar I'd use the old fashion way, take 3 shots one under exposed, one normal exposure and one o er exposed them combine in Photoshop , the old fashion way 👍
I liked almost all pictures of the iPhone. Better some noise in the pictures and details instead of unnatural strong noise reduction and crushed shadows.
Problem is it's not noise reduction, the Xiaomi's sensors are all much bigger than the iPhones so noise reduction is not at play here ! Much more apparent when comparing clean video feeds from both phones. Anyone's free to like whichever, but technically the iPhone loses on all fronts unfortunately
i ve noticed the iphone is in the majority of shots chooses Spot Metering thats why it bright up everything with extreme noise and then it applies the hdr to under expose the spot metering in the bright parts so the pic turns out flat and boring.. the X14u is on a League of its own , its like u belittling it comparing to iphone 😅 looll
Hello. I really like your approach towards the comparison between two devices, it helps a lot. I'm torn apart between Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Huawei Pura 70 Ultra, I just can't decide. I just search for every comparison that I can find and for now it's like Xiaomi has the edge in daylight and Huawei at night. I'm struggling between these two 😥😅
Thank you I really appreciate, I personally would not touch the pura with a barge pole but that's my opinion: no Google services and the issue of a "do-it-all" zoom module. The 3.7x on the Xiaomi is a marvel of awesomeness ! Only relying purely on sensor crop focal lengths completely kills the depth of field between virtual focal lengths and a less that desirable bokeh due to the periscope type of module. Again that's only my opinion and I know Xiaomi is bound to go down that route with the 15 Ultra of a mega gazillion megapixel telephoto module and that will break my heart 😂
@@UpsideLensagree with you. I tried to submerge Xiaomi's official channels to ask them for a real big sensor with big pixel size like 21mp instead of 200mp or 400mp or whatever. Let's hope they don't follow the trend.
I hope so too ! Personally I don't think upping the mp count is the way forward but unfortunately for 99% of people it is what makes more sense and big companies cater for the masses 🤷😔
There are a ton of videos about fake portrait modes, my channel focuses on actual photography rather than AI software tricks. I'm sure apple is right up there with the likes of Samsung and Google phones when it comes to AI just not my cup of tea unfortunately 😉
Oh ok absolutely 😅 nowadays when I hear portrait mode I think of the whole fake portrait mode all phones nowadays do ! I will someday make a video about model portraits ! I will get around to doing one I swear 😂 it's been on my agenda for the longest times ! That and car photography and and and.... Video aspect of the Xiaomi ! It will all come I promise, it's just I've had so much going on in the background and trying to catch-up ! Got so much planned and ongoing and all will be revealed soon 😁🤙
I would happily do a video on it if anyone wants to send it my way 🤷 however it is a downgrade in pretty much every department when it comes to photography compared to the Xiaomi 14 ultra
Very useful video and analysis, thank you. I am disappointed with my 16 Pro Max so far in terms of still image quality. I do believe the previous 15 Pro max had better image processing. Apple need to tweak the jpeg colour profile and processing for the 16PM. I say this from a decade of mobile phone photography typically running three flagship phones for comparison. Historically I have liked the apple pro raw 48MP images but the 16PM currently produces inconsistent results. Totally disappointed with Apple this time. At least the Chinese mobile manufacturers are using larger physical sensors to help improve image quality. I think we are reaching a bit of a plateau with limits of technology given the available space in mobile phones.
Thank you 👍 yes disappointing results but still can get some good shots out of it if you past the noise, just needs a lot of AI denoising. For the money though, and with that ancient recycled hardware my money is definitely on other brands 😅
i currently have the iphone 16 pro max and my god is the camera abysmal. every picture comes out bad. my xiaomi 14 based model had more details in auto mode than my iphone had is pro raw. i have no idea what these tech youtubers are talking about but the difference between the 2 camera was night and day. iphone is absolute dog shit for the price. at least the xiaomi phones capture what you see in real life and the iphone just does algorithm and nothing to enhance or make the photo quality better. Im giving a week or 2 before returning it.
See that's the kind of honesty I appreciate ! I will never understand people who feel they have to brag about their phone just because that's what they bought even when it is downright undefendable 😅. With tech RUclipsrs, most (we won't talk about the brown nose ones) just go by specs and what they see on their phone screen, and to be completely honest they're used to that standard of the sharper, the more saturated and the brighter it is the better and that's what they go by. But all things said, if you know what to look for it will only take a couple of seconds to see that the iPhone, whilst ok for general use and for the average user, is just not built for photography. For the money there are MUCH better options like Vivo / OPPO / Xiaomi.... Yes they're all Chinese phones but the proof is in the pudding, the big names have dropped the ball !
@ I completely agree! Chinese phones are by and large overall the better product in terms of what you need as a functional mobile device. Iphone and dare I say even Samsung and pixel phones have regress that sticking to any of these 3 brands just shows that they have little to knowledge on the smart phone markets
Hey I've already replied to someone else about the X200 Pro, higher pixel count sensors with sensor crops are a downgrade to physical focal length. Besides sensors all around are a step down to the Xiaomi, dimensity chip relies on heavy AI post processing which I'm completely against. I need as least processed raw as possible. Also the x200 pro does not have a full variable aperture. A downgrade from all aspects for me.
@UpsideLens you need to give it a try. It's the number one currently on the market until its ultra version will come to the battle. It's not a downgrade. It has the newest sony lens. After a few updates, it'll be even better.
One thing for sure is that Apple are great at up selling 😅 it is a great looking phone that I'm sure will compel to a lot of people but for photographers looking for a great all rounder cameras this isn't it
Im really not feeling the color science of the iPhone. The photos kind of look like impressionist paintings. I have the same gripe about my Samsung too. The Xiaomi pics look clean and realistic. Thanks for sharing your experience. I look at all the phone photography subs on reddit and make comparisons. I'm not in danger of buying an iPhone lol.
Many of my friends / family members but iPhone and don't care about the bad quality saying best camera, best screen, best phone, best sound, etc. It's like they all buy German cars that see the mechanics / technicians regularly but saying "most reliable cars". I was raised in Japan and Korea cars and didn't really remembered where the mechanics were in my town. I've been using Chinese phones + big brands for more than a decade and never been disappointed by Chinese phones. People are weird.
I have discussed at lengths with others why the X100U is just not for me. One does it all sensor crop periscope lens with no proper focal lenght depth of field, dimensity ISP processes more aggressively than SD8G3, no full variable aperture and much much less support when it comes to video aspect like motion cam and mcpro24fps hence much worse video quality. Hope that answers your question 👍
No I do not 😅 high MP count sensors relying on sensor crops for their different focal lengths it's just a downgrade to real physical focal lengths, you just don't get the same depth of field. Also no full variable aperture available on main sensor. Dimensity ISP also opens up a whole can of worms. To top it all off it isn't anywhere as good when it comes to video shooting with subpar compatibility with third party apps like mcpro24fps and motion cam which allow stunning footage way way way better than any stock software including iPhone !
Vivo is better minimal for me because I hate that Leica styles etc. with Leica but this is subjective, but price Xiaomi, which is small overpriced and Vivo so Vivo is much better objective. And Apple...no comm, simply Apple, still same phone😂
I mean it's all there for anyone to see 🤷 like I said at the end it's an ok phone for average Joe who doesn't care about photography only uses the cameras for the kids, the dog the odd insta food shot and that's about it. The camera hardware is just ancient with small sensors and a harsh processing pipeline. What would you like me to say ? I'm not biased, I don't get paid by either brands.

It's all good mate we all use our cameras differently, me personally I need as blank a canvas as possible with the least amount of processing which neither the X200Pro with its dimensity ISP or Xperia with it's very noisy outputs can give me. To each their own indeed 😉👌
Must waited for the xiaomi 15 ultra will be the king in terms of photography.
And leica color science is just amazing
I would have left the aperture up to your personal preference for each scene, and let the iPhone fry - main cam obviously, it did it's own frying when it came to the aux lenses/sensors.🤣
What do you think about vivo x100 ultra?! :)
@@UpsideLens thank you! Merry Christmas! )))
11:46 that xiaomi shot is ethereal
That goes to show what I have been saying all along, getting rid of this fixed regular module would be a major downgrade if Xiaomi is to follow what other brands are doing with big periscope modules with higher megapixel count like Vivo and the likes ! A lot of people see it as an upgrade and even to this day tell me the Vivo x200 pro is better when it really is a far cry from the Xiaomi !!! With a sensor purely relying on sensor crops not only do you lose actual depth of field (constant throughout the crop range) but the bokeh loses its natural presentation, and appears rectangular shaped. Let's hope they keep this 3.7x
bro has Ricky Gervais @ 10:00 on the iPhone's shot background xd
JPG side, it really is interesting how Apple, Samsung, Pixels (to an extent also Oppo, Vivo* & OnePlus) all oversharpen the image whilst actually having less detail. Normal people/techtubers will look at it at a glance and conclude that iPhone (for example) has more detail, which simply isn't true. Also comes with other caveats such as haloing and artifacting.
Nice video bro iPhone 16 pro max is bad to an extent that it's even beaten by Xiaomi 14t pro
@UpsideLens 100% 👍
The iPhone is great if you want to see everything in a picture, as it brightens everything up, but if you want art and personality to your photos and just control over the camera then the Xiaomi is the one to go for.
Yep absolutely spot on 👍
how about the video quality?
@ ok I’ll try it!! You’re doing a good job! You’re first channel that focus on a mobile photography the most
@damianwojcikiewicz3623 cheers mate and yes that's the idea 😉 mobile phone photography exclusively 👌
@@UpsideLens What about for photo? do you use the stock camera app?
@marcosrossi9600 yes for photos I use the stock app indeed but I shoot either in RAW or Ultra RAW depending on lighting and manual mode 99% of the time. 👍
@@UpsideLens How to manage hdr with raw? Does it stack up the photos automatically in Raw or you do any double exposure?
Google pixels are the vest smart phone for photography since its inception. Its won every blind tests and DXOmark tests. You should try one
Dxomark.... Ohhhhhh ok
Xiaomi 14 is the best!
Xiaomi 14U FTW 🤛
DXOMark is just some biased test. It has the Honor Magic 6Pro leading for a few weeks
Biased or somehow money motivated from what I've heard 😅
i ve noticed the iphone is in the majority of shots chooses Spot Metering thats why it bright up everything with extreme noise and then it applies the hdr to under expose the spot metering in the bright parts so the pic turns out flat and boring..
the X14u is on a League of its own , its like u belittling it comparing to iphone 😅 looll
Need another video on Portrait Mode Comparison
There are a ton of videos about fake portrait modes, my channel focuses on actual photography rather than AI software tricks. I'm sure apple is right up there with the likes of Samsung and Google phones when it comes to AI just not my cup of tea unfortunately 😉
@@UpsideLens I did not meant AI portrait Mode, I meant human subject photography. as most people take human photos & upload to SM.
@@UpsideLens Thanks in advance.
vivo x200 pro street photography video ??????? ❤
Dude, import the Vivo X200 Pro from China. You'll be impressed by the quality of the camera and video mode on the X200 Pro.
I'll pass but thank you 😁
amateur photographer. you have to set maxHeif for iphone(for jpg mode)
BREAKING NEWS: it was set to max heif 🤦
This video is another reminder that iphone has one of the worst image processing available.
Great comparison! At this point, can we all say that iPhone 16 Pro is the worst iPhone upgrade released by Apple ever?
One thing for sure is that Apple are great at up selling 😅 it is a great looking phone that I'm sure will compel to a lot of people but for photographers looking for a great all rounder cameras this isn't it
Im really not feeling the color science of the iPhone. The photos kind of look like impressionist paintings. I have the same gripe about my Samsung too. The Xiaomi pics look clean and realistic. Thanks for sharing your experience. I look at all the phone photography subs on reddit and make comparisons. I'm not in danger of buying an iPhone lol.
You are not in any danger... Nope 😅 they are definitely catered towards 2 different crowds that's for sure !
@@UpsideLens in the US they kind of seem more like status symbols than anything else.
@Davinassunflowergarden that's exactly what it is indeed ! Eventually tables will turn 😅
@@andylive974 the Chinese tech is getting so good these days. I feel you. Don't follow the crowd and just use what works best for you.
U need to try x100 ultra
I have discussed at lengths with others why the X100U is just not for me.
One does it all sensor crop periscope lens with no proper focal lenght depth of field, dimensity ISP processes more aggressively than SD8G3, no full variable aperture and much much less support when it comes to video aspect like motion cam and mcpro24fps hence much worse video quality. Hope that answers your question 👍
u need to get vivo x100 ultra
There is no way iPhone lose all comparison, you just criticise non stop
I mean it's all there for anyone to see 🤷 like I said at the end it's an ok phone for average Joe who doesn't care about photography only uses the cameras for the kids, the dog the odd insta food shot and that's about it. The camera hardware is just ancient with small sensors and a harsh processing pipeline. What would you like me to say ? I'm not biased, I don't get paid by either brands.
@@UpsideLens I’m not apple fanboy but I know the camera of iPhone is what makes it” iPhone “ , there is NO way it lose everything
I didn’t like that video… one sided can’t believe this video
Ok 👍
@@adf350adf6 Man, you've been lobotomized for years by Samsung and Apple, you can definitely feel it and it's hard to believe it, but the facts speak for themselves. 90% of the photos here had more character on the 14U but I preferred the rendering (of course by cropping it's lost for Apple) of the alley with the iPhone... which shows that anything can happen ;)
Bloke that drives a fiat all his life, finds out that Ferraris exist 🤣 He even crippled the Xiaomi by setting the aperture to higher than the iPhone, if he had selected the correct aperture for each scene it would have been embarrassing. Moral of this story is, don't believe what the adverts are telling you......what you have to think about is why does the richest company in the world spend billions on marketing if their products are the best? They aren't so they have to keep telling you that they are.
VIVO X200 Pro победитель !
xiaomi not all that impressive tbh
This is a video about the worst they can look and how they manage those tricky scenarios, not a "this is what the phone can do" video ! I have made enough of those to see the Xiaomi is one of the best phones in the world for photography if that still remains to be proved !
