finally a phone reviewer who does photography. Now i can really compare the true potential of cameras instead of looking random side by side photos from other youtubers.
My girlfriend has an iPhone 15 pro max and I have a Xiaomi 14 ultra. The Xiaomi camera is definitely much more versatile, portraits with telephoto lenses are better, and the macro lenses are incredible. If you need to make content for social networks, Xiaomi is the best option. We use 4K 120fps and 1080p 1920fps video (yes, 1920fps) to make spectacular slow motion videos. Using the main and front cameras are very similar.
been watching camera battles between phones, and one thing I noticed is that most youtubers I've watched have different opinions, so it makes it harder for me to choose the best camera phone for me to use on a daily basis. Though not all youtubers knows photography more than a real photographer, and I think Steven has vast knowledge about photography and videography, so I'd listen to the one who knows what they're doing. But it's kinda sad that he's criminally underrated with only 100k subs, with this quality of contents, it's worth at least 5million subs.
Thanks for the great comparison! Love the Xiaomi Ultra series (I use both the 12 Ultra and an iPhone 12, and knows someone who uses the 14 Ultra - the low light capabilities of the telephotos on the 14 Ultra are much improved).
I use automatic photo backup in Dropbox. Both my iPhone and my Xiaomi 14 ultra upload to the photo folder in Dropbox in full resolution. Works perfect. I am very satisfied with the Xiaomi 14 ultra. Lens quality, galery software and the photography kit are the highlights.
You can even use it on google photos, or even with one drive, the problem is when you're traveling, and phone signals aren't readily available, having a OTG SSD is still handy.
I love iPhones for photo and video especially the 15 Pro Max but where the iPhone always falls apart for me is iOS and using it as a phone for my multitasking needs. I’m pretty much a power user and what I love about Android and especially a Samsung phone is that you almost always have a solution for something. Video doesn’t play in the background? Create a floating window or use split screen view. When you can’t do something on iPhone that’s basically the end of it. I’ll be back on Android this week with the old classic Note 20 Ultra which still has microSD expansion and wait for the fall for my next upgrade.
Interessant. Mir dagegen fällt es unglaublich schwer, das iPhone 15 Pro Max zu tauschen oder zu verkaufen weil ich so viele andere Apple Produkte habe.

Plenty of RAM and storage! 16/512GB! And more. It is a phone you can easily fall in love with ❤
I like the LiDAR sensor for taking point clouds and importing them into 3D modelling software like Revit but I agree, sometimes the camera focuses on the wrong thing because of the LiDAR so Apple needs to allow us to override it like we can with the auto-macro mode.
I feel like the main difference in photography between both phones is the warmth and contrast (which both can be easily matched by the iPhones photographic styles), as for resolution, they both have nearly the same resolution but the iPhone retains more info in the shadows and highlights while the xiaomi excelled in color. I feel like I would go more towards the iPhone but I also get why the xiaomi would be an awesome photography camera
I don’t know how, but going back to when I was still using Xiaomi with leica support, it gave me more inspiration to take pictures, probably because it provided so much depth and quality that it was incredibly like a professional camera. After moving to Samsung, my photography inspiration was almost gone. SamSung makes their photo tone more flat, boring, especially more and more like Apple, I'm really disappointed with Samsung's camera this year when I look at smartphones from China. The only thing that kept me back with Samsung was because it was the only Android smartphone company that sold Flagship >1000$ in my country. ViVo, Oppo, Xiaomi couldn't survive. And of course I dont use Iphone
On my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra I set the Smart Optimization option to "Medium". I recommend you to avoid the "Maximum" setting, because it processes the photos way too much and makes them look like pastel paintings. :) Along with that, the battery wears out faster with the "Maximum" setting and gets much hotter. The most natural photos are obtained at the "Minimum" setting, but then in lower light it produces too much noise. Therefore, I recommend shooting in bright light with the "Minimum" or "Medium" setting, and at dusk with the "Medium" setting, though sometimes at extreme darkness you may want to switch to "Maximum". I also downloaded the "Camera assistant" app where I set "Picture softening" to "High". Then the photos are as natural as possible and close to what is standard for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. If it is set to "Medium", it takes 1 second more for additional processing and the photos are only slightly sharpened, but still natural. However, I don't recommend shooting with the "Off" setting, because then the photos are unpleasantly out of focus and all objects have white outlines. This is especially noticeable when shooting tree branches, fences, street poles, text on paper etc. :) In summary, here are my recommended settings for the best balance between detail and natural looking photos: "Smart Optimization" to be set to "Medium". From the Camera assistant app, set the "Picture softening" to "Medium".
Same for me, while using my old Mi Max 2 as daily and even redmi Note 10 pro I would shoot a lot. I now use Samsung S22 Ultra as daily and I rarely shoot now. Don't like the colour science, the tone, the pictures look flat and boring. I no longer take pictures of animals because they are like oil painting now. Boring. But stylus is great. I now take my Mi Max 2 when I go for a walk, so I can start taking photos again.
I like your videos, but when you stick with stock camera apps, on android, you're not using the potential of the phone. Mi14u specially has 14 bit dcg raw available in raw photos AND VIDEOS. It is INSANE. You can do 8k binned to 4k raw video. It has gcam 50mp on all lenses with absurd quality. The beauty of Android is your not locked like apple/ios. There is so much one can create. Ofc this comes with a little more dirty.
as a iphone 11 paired with Filmic pro user, i bought the Xiaomi Fold 4 as a second phone. Xiaomi is now offering better lens and some photo software, while Apple is still miles ahead on video with Apple Prores raw and stabilisation. I used to invest in a lot of time to shoot raw video , but now i know most of the time i would be lazy to do post. So Xiaomi is better for me.
Wow, wow, wow. While Apple trucks on with their detestable color processing and not-good-enough portrait mode, quite a few of the Xiaomi photos look genuinely professional to me. 3:03 This looks like a photo taken on something like a 35mm f/2.8, edited with a preset like a lot of wedding photographers (like myself) would use. 3:24 And here, the artificial shallow depth of field looks 100% convincing to me, even on closer inspection. I’m extremely impressed. Also, the colors and dynamic range look great to me.
