- Let's visit a secret Pirate Bar in the Caribbean Sea near Negril. JAMAICA was a key figure during the Golden Age of Piracy, but there are hardly any pirate attractions on the island. Why do you think this is the case?
As a part of Jamaica Video Guide series, today we're going to Half Moon Beach to see a unique place, known as Calico Jack Pirate Shack, or simply Pirate Bar on a Pirate Island. We're also to share a bit of pirate history related to Jamaica, namely the story of John Rackham, nicknamed Calico Jack!

This lady is actually teaching me about my own country which is amazing. 😁😁
This is where my family is from, I've visited a couple of times but nothing like this. Has opened my eyes for sure.
Irie thanks for keeping my beautiful country warm until i come 😀🇯🇲 💪🏿 see u soon Jamaica 🤝🏿
I pray that you get a million views, very soon.
History of pirates as like Jamaica's heros were superficially taught in Primary Schools.
England controlled and directed Jamaica's educational system; England printed text books and curriculum were the norm.
To them the less we knew of their failures, the better to maintain their diluted influence.
The history books are usually written by the victors, not the vanquished.
I am so glad to know that you are doing this great piece of work in my country🇺🇸🇯🇲❤️🙏🙏
Marvin wah u a deal wid
I love 🇯🇲 🇺🇦
Thank you Empress for share these treasure spots of our beautiful island of Jamaica
Love your videos IRIE. You were born for this!!
I know right... I LIKE her energy. Genuine spirit...
Loving the history lesson with the Assassin's Creed footage. 😂
I just had to use that footage 😂! I'm a gamer 😳🤫... and Assassin's Creed is soooo accurate, it's crazy how they thought of every detail - from clothes to character's behaviour. Besides, I had troubles finding footage from 1700s.. 😂😂😂
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE haha. I love it.
Yes I appreciate the history she throws in her videos very well informative . Thx
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE a gamer and have a love for the island woah. Thats rare, normally historians/tourism officials/attraction runners always distance themselves from such media with that narrow minded thinking. You are blowing me away the more i watch your videos
@@ShadowHane Thank you so much! Yeah, well, I hope you will enjoy the upcoming content just as much 🤗 Thanks for all the support!
Love ❤️ your videos and thanks for the history behind it. Got to visit the Pirate Bar/Luncheon On my to do list.
Wow I will definitely book this with you when I visit Jamaica!🤗
Man you got me considering an international move for real!!!
Wow nice irie. Love that video wow
Turquoise is my favorite color, so I'd always be in that water😍🇯🇲🤗💞
You definitely bring a wealth of information and experience (all authentic) to the masses (who will greatly appreciate it and their voyage to our beautiful country, land we love). Such a pity that some of those who've planned to come here had to cancel their flights, before arriving, because of COVID-19. Your content is AMAZING and you are genuine
Thank you so much! The pandemic will end eventually and people will have a chance to enjoy all this beauty!!! Even now these attractions are operating, so if people can make it now to Jamaica - they will have a blast, while all safety measures are in place!
Assassins Creed Black Flag, one of my favourites. A lot of fun hours on this one.
Thank you! Exactly! 😊My other favourite is Assassin's Creed Origins 😎

IRIE great job on the history of Jamaica I was born there and many of these things was not thought to many in school so thank you and the great job you are doing of shearing our little island with the world.
Very beautiful love it irie
I love how I put history into your footage
Nature at its best! Really enjoy ur videos!
Interesting. Learn something new.
Great content
Great video as usual Irena.
Irina Good day to you and your family. Blessings
I learnt alot about the Pirates in Jamaica in school and proud of it aa its what make us unique in the region in some sort of way. Our small country is rich with heritage and history. Its also so rich with natural beautiful sites the obvious is usually marketed, Just as you were told little about the country before coming there.
The food is not even marketed with hotels as an additional attraction. I believe it would be an extra appeal to the country. Parts of Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed in the Caribbean but not in Jamaica.
I believe this would be an intriging experience for visitors to the island. I hope the tourism Ministry sees this video and capitalise on same.
Thanks again Irina..Walk Good!
Thank you so much for sharing! And yes, The Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed all over the place.. but not in Jamaica. Which is such a shame! At least James Bond is now being being filmed in Ja! Another Jamaican heritage.. which isn't promoted much anymore!
Great info on one of my favourite subjekts about Jamaica . There is so much you coud do with Port Royal. Snorkeling and diving looking for the sunken city. Festivals at Port Royal. There is so much one could do. Wish I had the money 🤩
Listening to my Ukraine girl speaking about Jamaica give me more to appreciate about my country that I didn’t even know about to be honest!
Irie bring a lot of intriguing things to light and it make me even watched back previous videos of her to remind me that we have a lot of things in the country that I didn’t even realize was there.
Whenever I’m visiting back Jamaica I will of to take some of my Dutch friends to meet her so she can show them the island because I don’t know much myself.
Thank you so much 🤗Such feedback is much appreciated!
Thanks. Seems like a great tour.😎
Yes, thank you! Each time I go - I have a blast! It was also a part of the most popular tour on Airbnb Experience platform that we ran in 2019, shame about the covid thing... can't wait for it to be over! I hope you can check out this place next time you're close to Negril!

Wow!!! Irena, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Absolutely fantastic!
Always have to tune in for these amazing videos 🤗
Hi there Irina. I have one complaint..video was too short. Please make your videos over 20 minutes long so we don't finish your video before our Sunday breakfast. I still have 2 fried dumplings and a piece of fish on my plate and am missing your video already, gonna have to replay I guess. lol...thanks for posting.
LOL! This is such a great comment! Made me laugh, because I know exactly what you mean! 😂😂😂Thank you so much for the support! I will try to make videos longer, but not sure if it can work for every video though :) Once again, thanks! ❤️
This comment had me 😂🤣🤣
@judy lynch how is your comment relevant to me or to this video or to this channel or to the tourism industry in Jamaica? 🤷♀️Are you saying that there shouldn't be tourism in Jamaica and Jamaicans aren't allowed to earn money by selling goods and services to Europeans?
@judy lynch Oh you poor thing. Read a couple of books I see. Name a few countries not in debt. "U keep allowing asians to build on your land" HUH!! why stop there? maybe make no one at all build on our land...that's just xenophobia. What if all "others" elsewhere didn't allow us to build or buy in their countries? We are working our way out of debt and your thinking will do us very little in terms of progress. Strange coming from a person called Lynch. Go read up on that name maybe you will learn something. There are good and bad in every race and right now the bad among us are hurting us much more than any other race has ever done. In the past 30 years they have killed over 40,000 of us All other race combined probably have killed what? maybe 3 that I cannot think of now. Put your energy where it belong if you wish us well. Be good. all the time and let hate stop at your door.
I love those photo shoots at the end of your video
awww, thank you! :)))
I've asked myself these same questions. There are so much untapped strategies in Jamaica but the Jamaican people have been able to innovate and influence without depending on those types of things. I love the insight.
Items you have carved a vlog that is truly yours
Thank you for sharing. I’m learning so much that will help me with my move to Jamaica. 🇯🇲❤️
Hey great video as always! I love it and can you please make a video on the great black beared and the port Royal too please?
Yes, absolutely! These would be coming up some time later for sure! Thank you!
ok Irie and thank you too keep up the hard work also!!!
Great videos
Hi Irena, admiring another of your historically filled vlogs. I caught sight of a big headed fish and wondered if it was one of those destructive puffer fish. I hope they have managed to kill them all from the waters in Ja. Because they are invaders I learnt, and invaders are always bad news. Thanks again
@@gloriarobinson1869 The puffer fish is ok, it's the LIONFISH that has to be taken care of! And yes, NEPA has been doing a good job handling it!
I love every episode. I will add this to my list of places to visit in JA. You video make me want to come home every day
Irie you the best don't leave Jamaica
Babe irie don't leave Jamaica stay with us
Amen
Love your videos. I can't wait to visit Jamaica next month 😁
Great video Irie, very interesting comments on this video many good ideas, the plans that people are suggesting sound difficult, but not impossible, it seems you lit a fire in peoples imagination for Port Royal. Viewers off this channel don’t give up on your ideas they sound great keep pushing on because great things don’t come easy, and IRIE keep putting up these great videos I love them, BIGG UP YA SELF and NUFF RESPECT ✊🏾
Thank you so much! I'm actually impressed by so many ideas and thoughts shared under this video! Many thanks to everyone, I will take all these comments into account when doing the research on Port Royal and having a chance to talk to JTB and JNHT next time! Hi Irie, another historical vlog, very knowledgable and interesting.

Thank you! Glad you like the videos and sure - always welcome ❤️
Great video and history lesson..
Very nice post.
Irena, you really hit this one for 6 Cricket analogy
Ah, I had to go and check what "hitting six in cricket" means, lol! :))) Glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you!
Captain Morgan was a privateer, which means he had permission from England to rob the Spanish. Pirates did not have " permission" to rob , but that doesn't make them worse people than privateers. Lots of pirates became privateers and vise versa in the quest for riches. All said and done, the governments in power where the original pirates!
Indeed! I want to make a full history video explaining the Piracy of the Caribbean in general, since there are a lot of interesting facts to highlight!
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE that would be awesome!

Great video. As someone who also love and enjoy history, I appreciate the inclusion of the history section of your video's. I knew about Morgan but not about Calico, so learnt something new today.
Nice..
Great content once again Irina! I plan on coming to Jamaica after covid-19 dies down sometime next year. We definitely have to meet & greet! I look forward to it…..
Absolutely! Would be a pleasure indeed! I hope covid ends soon! 🙏
Thanks for the history irie.
I was there 4 yrs ago. Cool place!!
Hi Irina 👋🏽
You need to invite me on your next adventure 🤣🤣🤣 Luv luv your videos. You’re an awesome tour guide and I can’t wait to see where you’re going next. Another hit video 👌🏾
The good thing about Jamaica is out door restaurants are already built for Corona virus with open concept. My favorite way to eat. I wish they would now go back to building homes with verandah, porches instead of copying the USA designs. Why Jamaicans locking them selves indoors like Americans. It's an island with trade winds we need to sit on verandah more so now than ever with Corona around. Nice vlog Irina
Thank you! Hm, are there Jamaican homes without a verandah? 😲 So far I only see the ones with balconies/verandahs. Maybe in Kingston, hmmm?
You brought welcomed tears to my eyes. Thank you for this wondeful synopsis.
really nice insight of the history, I think it is also a part of their culture, cause it influenced the island. The trip to the bar is great, will do it when I am back. Luv it! Great video again! You have a really talent to create high standard videos, amazing! It´alsways a pleasure to watch it!
Love your videos...I have been recommending your videos to people who wants to migrate to Jamaica..or am Jamaican but you know the country more than I do...(gonna change that). I look forward to your videoes. ..make sure u do the Jamaica Directory ok
I do the same thing. LOL
From what I understood growing up in jamaica, real-life pirates were normally presented as villains in history. Even in high school history class, there were short stories we had to read and analyze that depicted how 'savage' and 'unlawful' pirates were (I remembered a short story in particular about Captain Morgan).
I remembered going on field trips to Port Royal back in primary school and how we were told that the terrible earthquake that sunk parts of Port Royal was an act of God punishing the pirates that frequent there. It's no surprise as to why there are no attractions related to that part of our history because all we know is either misinformation or propaganda spread by British colonists.
A Japanese construction company called Shimizu Corporation was planning on building an underwater city in Port Royal to be completed in 2030. Idk if they scrapped the plan, or if it is still in the works. It would consist of residential and business units. 5000 residents would be able to live under there in the housing part of it and be self sufficient. I think parts of it would be glass to view the sunken city ruins via tours. It would be constructed in the form of a 500m sphere, connected to the ocean floor by a 15m spiral umbilical cord.
The residential and business units would be in the main sphere and the base of the spiral would be a research center for scientists who would harness energy from sources on the ocean floor. One side effect of that process would be oxygen, which would be used for people under there to be able to breathe. The entire sphere would be 500m.
The city would be accessible from the top of the sphere, which would float above the water level in good weather, but could also sink to up to 2km below the surface. I heard about it many, many years ago and just remembered about it now that I have watched your video and heard you talking about pirates and Port Royal, so I did a little digging (pun intended), but the latest article I could find on it was written in 2014. I didn't see any current info about it. I am going to try and see if I can get in touch with Shimitzu Corp. and find out if they can give me any info on the project.
Thank you for the info - never heard of this project! Sounds very interesting, will check it out! 🤔👍👍👍
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE yes Irina, it's something worth looking into. When I heard about it maybe more than a decade ago, I was very excited about it. What I read about it back then was more detailed about the underwater museum aspect than this 2014 article that I pulled the info from I gave you. It elaborated more on how we would be able to walk under the water and view the sunken ships and buildings and be told a little bit of the history behind each ship and building from a tour guide. I was really fascinated by it and knew that it would be on my bucket list when it was completed, but then the years went by and I forgot about it and never heard anything about it again until you jogged my memory and I decided to look it up. Here's the link to that 2014 article and I'm going to do some more research to see if I can find contact info for Shimizu Corporation construction company: A Japanese construction company is planning a spherical underwater city - City Monitor
citymonitor.ai/community/japanese-construction-company-planning-spherical-underwater-city-507
@@bigtoolgarry Ah, thank you for sharing! Very interesting indeed! They are talking about a new city they want to build, not in Port Royal though, some place else. However, this idea can be applied at a smaller scale and with preserving archaeological site in Jamaica indeed.
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE you're actually right, this article didn't specify exactly where, but I know there was one in the works for Port Royal and I'm going to keep looking it up. The fact that this article didn't specify the underwater museum of glass, pretty much sum it up to not being the Port Royal project, and that is the main thing about the one that is/was supposed to be built in Port Royal. I'll get back to you if I can find more info on it. And I'm still going to ask Shimizu Corp. if they're the company who is/was supposed to tackle the Port Royal project.
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE I found contact info on Shimizu Corporation, but their website is in Japanese. I can't read a thing. I also have their phone number and will check out their time zone and give them a call when it's daytime there

Irie, yuh look good in a yuh braids. Lol. That's close to where I used to live .
@judy lynch, you know my comment on @JAMAICA WITH IRIE was a simple and sincere one. She's in Jamaica, and obviously loves the island and its people. She has spoken of the pros and cons living there, and has done so in such unbiased manner. She strikes me as a PERSON with good heart. One who's open and loving, which is what I look for in everyone. No matter their color or creed. Dr King said it best," I have decided to stick with love. HATE is too great a burden to bear."
It's that simple for me.
You on the other hand, doesn't seem to share the same sentiment. I get that there's injustice among a certain group of people, but I choose to not let that blocked me from giving and receiving love for ALL . So please don't waste your precious time ,attacking someone based on THEIR outlook. It's all love Judy. It's all my beautiful Goddess. Happy Halloween. Or happy Saturn day. It's a powerful full moon,in Tarus. Blessings to you my sista.

Irina, thanks again for another wonderfully informative video. Have been talking to people I know about your videos and channel. Noticed you kept pronouncing the pirate's name as "Cali-ka" as opposed to "Cali-co" as in the words "tobac-co" or "simpati-co".😄
Thank you! Well, I try to pronounce it as "Cali-co" in the same way as I would pronounce "tobacco", which means.....I probably pronounce tobacco wrong as well!!! 😂😂😂 I guess it's a mix of Ukrainian accent and a lack of sleep that makes it sound as "ka"! Hmmm, I need to work on my accent! 🤔
your channel amazing . I've been here and only learnt , all this info from your video . please keep on doing videos
Very interesting love to hear more.
Amazing stuff 💯💯💯
I think it is that we lack sharing our history, seeing how it made us...our history is barely taught in schools and probably only those who do history knows much...we hardly promote much of the past...just snippets...we can do much more in everything...I think it is just the lack of care and seeing the importance of it and what promoting it can do...probably just short sightedness... BTW...even though I know most of these things...I still learn a few things from your videos...I probably have a few things I can share too...as usual...I enjoy your videos
