Thanks for explaining! Family-owned Mexican restaurants in San Diego sometimes have this. I have seen it labeled "Jamaica" or "Hibiscus", drink. Didn't realize that it was actually sorrel! In Kingston, it was mostly served with a strong ginger taste, in my youth; really liked it then. Will try to make some. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Absolutely great vomradrie, energy and "roosterness"......."cock-ness". I was making my Sorrell here i Canada and the energy from your video must have been infused into mine. It's sooo good.
I learned something here because I was on a African lady channel where she was talking about the hibiscus plant known as zobo in their language, and there was two other people saying that the hibiscus and sorrel is the same while one person says it’s different. This really clear things up. I made my sorrel drink with only sorrel and ginger and it’s delicious. Will try adding the other spices to see if I will like it that way.
Such a fun video. I never put cinnamon in my Sorrel. I ad Red Label wine and over Proof Rum. I grater the ginger and boil it for 2 minutes before adding the sorrel. The Ginger flavor is really strong from that. 2 Thumbs up to you both, do more videos

Irina is too funny!! "What did you Putin, the drink?" 😂😂 This was fun, and light. Very refreshing. And I enjoyed the mini language lesson too, at the end. 🤩 For Ms. Shamera, you really did well, women tend to do well with languages, no matter what your background. As a Jamaican, that went to school in Kingston. I remember my primary school teacher, telling us, " it's okay, to try, to pronounce big words. Because they will not break your jaw bone." I think that goes along with languages too, you did well, as Irina said. Good job, I enjoyed you both.
Irina Shamera is so energetic and bubbly ☺😊👍 she seems like a nice person to be around we really love her vibes hope to see her in more of your cooking videos and also the owner of that beautiful house we humbly appreciate his good deeds for invited us all in his humble dwelling 🙏👍💜😊 .. lost but not least Irina please leave a glass of that Sorrel for Me .. Ha, ha - I love ro see Irena to get little tipsy !!! Great athmoshere, nice friends, lovelly vibes for the holiday seazon. I discovered Jamaican dry hibiscus in the near by latino store few years ago and I make my hibiscus tee every morning for 4 years : hiscus + fresh ginger + organic lemon peels !!! NOOO SUGAR !!! I have an extremely physicaly demanding job early in the mornig. All my cooworkers bring a huge cups of coffee - I bring my hibiscus tea in the thermos - and I believe it works the same ! The red color of the hibiscus brew is so deep and beautifull and it looks like a red wine that it is often used as a social drink for people who eather can't or want to drink alkolic beverages and are tired of explaining WHY !
You want to kick that tea up??? Add some real Irish Moss to it. With your demanding job your immune system will thank you for the extra burst of energy.
Angostura introduced sorrel rum last year and this year they have sorrel bitters. Still have to try them both. My sister even makes a kind of sorrel jam every once and a while. Love sorrel a lot.

Enjoyed the video as usual. Oh how traditions live on! I too found it interesting that sorrel is called Agua de Jamaica in Mexico. Some years ago I did some research and this is what I found out. (Translated from Spanish). The plant did not come from Jamaica it wasn't until the late 1800s that books began to use this name. In addition to Hernández, another book mentions two other botanists who also registered the plant (that book is not worth mentioning because it dates a year that is long before the discovery of America). The name of the plant in Náhuatl language is quauhxocolt and seems to have been castellanzied to quajote recorded in 1615. The current name may have possibly come from the Caribbean Islands, Jamaica or USA itself where plant was already being promoted as Jamaican sorrel in catalogs for the sale of plants for the garden. The oldest Mexican book that records the name "flor de Jamaica" is the Farmacopea Mexicana, from 1890. We don't know the various names that this plant must have had in Mexico before the word Jamaica erased them all. forum.wordreference.com/threads/agua-de-jamaica-bebida.3612880/

You can use grace syrup to sweeten too. Boil it irena. It had to steep to get the favor and bright red color. Cold water won't give you a rich flavor.
