    I used to go to a Jamaican American church when i was a kid in Brooklyn. My mom was our church cook for many years. My mother is known for being a little heavy handed when it came to Sorrel. One Christmas Sunday she had the 'smart' idea to bring some white rum and tips just a bit in the Sorrel for an authentic Jamaican flavor. It can hurt nobody right? But she tips a likkle too much inna di Sorrel. After church we ate and drank Sorrel. Needless to say, when we had our evening service, that was service to remember. Di whole church drunk off. Ah di first time me ever see old sister Johnson move so wicked inna church. Di whole church catch ah fire. And some people was to get baptized. Bishop Foss nearly drown off di whole ah dem. One piece ah dancing and shufflin. Every boot heel bruck off.

If you have high blood pressure want those mumbers to drop,take a piece of garlic,chew it spit it out, just get the juices. Boil 4 pieces off the garlic bulb make a tea, pressure goes down.

      I believe this is true. I don't think you need to wash dry sorrel bcuz it's ready to use when you buy..it's like loose tea leaves. You don't wash tea when you buy .they already clean it before they dry . I agree that it prob loses some potency after washing but to each their own :)

      Hi Baby Love (what a user name to have lol). No washing it wont take out the color. When you buy dried sorrel, you can't assume that they washed it before it is dried. Every time I wash the dried sorrel I wash it in luke warm to cold water and there are alway dirt and particles that comes from it. It is important to wash it. Don't listen to the rumors.

    • @racinesscrumptiousdelights

      @@katjean7270 You should definitely wash the dried sorrel before you make it. There will be a lot of dirt in your finished products and unwanted things if you don't wash it. It will not take away from the color or potency. Just wash it in luke warm to cold water.

      @@katjean7270 it needs to be washed. If u ever see the amount of dirt n grime that is in it. Wash it and take it out with ur hands. U will see what I'm talking about. I even found stones, gravels, and strange sticks in it. Plus, u can't guarantee how they go about drying it. In concretes where all kinds of things can walk, fly in it, etc. Can't compare it to the process of tea making. I did mine in December and it was so strong, I had to dilute it, plus I reuse it for another portion. Essentially, I got three sets from it. Washing it won't take away the colour at all.

      @racinesscrumptiousdelights  Год назад +1

      Hi SweetP. When the sorrel is hot you have to let it sit covered so it can steep for 24hours before you touch it. This is why you don't add sugar when it is hot. You would also need to strain the sorrel before the sugar is added. It really doesn't take long for the sugar to dissolve when it is cool.

    I appreciate you sharing this recipe, but I have to ask: Are you using an aluminum pot to boil the sorrel? It definitely looks like aluminum. If it's a big pot and not that heavy for its size, it is almost surely aluminum. Also, compare the pot to the bowl in which you washed the sorrel. The bowl is shiny, the pot is not. Usually aluminum pots aren't shiny, while stainless steel pots are always shiny. I would check to be sure, because 1. aluminum is really bad for health, and 2. aluminum reacts with acidic foods, affecting the flavor. Best to not cook with aluminum at all.
    Edit: I just looked up the pot on Amazon, and it's definitely aluminum. Get a stainless steel pot, for the sake of your health.
