I've been losing weight since January this year I'm fed up with how my life is and I want a purpose my friend from the gym said the marines will teach me how to deal with hardship and make me stronger so for the past 11 months it's been my only goal, I've lost 42KG from 140kg but still have alot further to go I'm going to enlist no matter what but would love some guidance. Thank you.
@SuiAuu I've been doing a calorie deficit of 1.5k and do 3 meals with 500kcal per meal and focus mainly on protein it keeps you full for a while and don't drink any calories eat them
@SuiAuu I will wake up at 4/5pm (I work nights so change the times to suit your life) ill eat my 1st meal which is 40g oats, 80g frozen fruit, 100g 0% yogurt and 1 scoup of protein powder if its to thick for your liking add a but of milk (anything but whole fat milk) and just do a little bit until it's eatable for you Next meal I usually do 2 chicken breast sliced throw them in a bowl with seasoning add some yogurt 20g and either pasta or rice this is eaten around 1/2am My last meal is my worst but it's so I can hit my macros and then go gym but I have tuna, 200g and Finish off the rest of my calories on carbs preferably potatoes but if I don't have alot left I'll use rice as its more food on the plate visually I eat then around 8am
I'm not a nutritionist or an expert but this is what works for me the main thing to do from what I found out is calculate your maintance calories and then aim to eat 500 less to lose weight or 500 more to gain and then eat 1g of protein for every pound you weigh and then your fats which are for hormones and not making yourself ill and then the rest should be on carbs so you have energy from a good source where you won't feel as drained as if you did nothing but protein
I've been out longer than your dads been around. We used to call reserves Rubber daggers but that doesn't hold true nowadays. I think training for reservists is pretty hard as you don't get any credit for injuries picked up and that could be a real time issue. I think the corps is moving more and more towards reservists as nobody seems to want a full time gig nowadays. ATB whatever you decide.
Reserve units hold regular open days, pop along and you'll meet the staff and reserve recruits in training and can ask as many questions as you like. My nearest unit, RMR Mersey (for example) also hold taster days where you can go in 6 months ahead of the next training batch start date and see how you measure up physically and what you need to work on. The modern Corps appreciates that just barking and shouting at people doesn't work and nowadays it's a scientific and fully supported process designed to train people into the Royal Marines not thrash them out
@viper-mx5lz I'm pretty sure only essential personal items are allowed, don't think books fall under that. I don't remember seeing anyone with their own books during basic training. I mean you could give it a shot and worse will happen is they will send it back to ur home
Yes you can take books but there is no point, you literally will not get time to read anything other than Course work. Any spare second you get will be spent sleeping and I mean every single spare second.
@darcebrooks5409 u will be doing that as a marine anyway tho. Tread mill don't give u the real feel I feel like. I can run 2x longer on a tread mill then outside

Yes mate I did the Corps championships but most my boxing in civvy street. As I struggled to box and do the job as a soldier due to the weight cuts.

@tylercurtis7267 how do you stay consistent? I diet for 3 days get hungry on the 4th and go back to binge eating.
