- Knee-friendly: the new 502 active-pedal
Freedom starts at the foot: Previous studies have been able to prove that releasing the axial rotation by 10° on clipless pedals can reduce the potential of overuse injuries in the knees. Based on this concept, the 502 active-System pedals had been developed: the first active pedal on the market for a knee-friendly, ergonomic foot position. The SQlab 502 active pedal is the first city pedal with lateral freedom of movement and good grip at the same time.
Four different axle lengths ensure a physiologically natural foot position on the pedal. This prevents one-sided loading - especially in the case of fibula head syndrome.

SQlab is the only company that I know of which publishes the crank to pedal center distance (spindle length) for flat pedals. Crankbrothers and Shimano only do this for their clipless pedals. In the SRAM world when you move from MTB (168mm) to Gravel (145mm), you lose 23mm of crank Q-Factor. SQlab is the only company that understands gravel riders also use MTB clipless. Shimano offers 55mm and Crankbrothers offers a 57mm spindle length, which work fine with the wider MTB Q-factor. SQlab offers flat and clipless pedal with a crank to pedal center distance up to approximately 70mm. I realize that one can move the shoe cleats laterally, but utilizing a longer spindle is a better option. Kudos to SQlab for being the only company supplying much needed stance-width options for MTB pedals.
Thanks so much
Please make your SQlab 511 Xlong (+15 mm) available to US customers. This is the only clipless pedal available that will afford me the opportunity to take my gravel cycling to the next level.
