  • Registered goats have tattoo's assigned to them and often they are given in the ear. Lamancha and Mini Lamancha goats don't have much for external ears so their tattoo goes on their tail, and it's actually a lot easier on the goat in my opinion!!

I lear so much from you Heather you are a hard working Mama and goat farmer and all together a rock star you give me so much info on growing food along with making different types of food. You do inspire me so much in all that you do !!! Your daughter is doing a great job walking with her goat I have been watching blue cactus dairy I think I spelled that wrong but Crystal and her daughter do great. ❤

Fun video Heather! Love the plan for the pumpkin patch, and appreciate the explanation of why to use staples - would not have thought of that. Elara is looking awesome! All the minis are. The tattooing always makes me wince a little for them, but I know they get over it quick. The condiments/seasonings you got look delicious! 💚💚

I think Elara is bigger than Tori! It's looking more and more like Tori will be bred to a Nigerian first (Probably Nefarious). maybe Feral next season! She has about 5 months to get to 80 lbs but....

We had a Seminole pumpkin come up out of our former compost bin area. It crawled through the saplings, weeds, etc. and we picked more than 30 pumpkins, that averaged 9 pounds each. We are in Florida, so I suspect they needed the shade.

I have not seen the idea of putting the staples in the weed fabric at the holes before, but it 100% makes sense to me. Mochi eating buttercups will maybe help him clear out any light worm load due to it not being great for him? Kind of like when you give pureed pumpkin to a dog (even though it's good for them) excess can cause loose stool for a day or two... Wondering if that might be "a thing" with goats, too and maybe that's one way they're able to keep ahead of some of the parasites? I don't know - just kind of brainstorming I guess! LOL But thank you so much for sharing this glimpse with us - and may I say those seasoning blends and sauces looked very good! (And oh my goodness how big little Miss Elara has grown!) *Don't you dare ask me now to pick a favorite goat, because I just CAN'T. They each have such great/interesting personalities and are fun to watch!

I've wondered this too. Clover eats buttercup like it's the best cake ever!! She will walk over lush grass to get to buttercup. Funnily enough she has been the least wormy this spring out of my big girls, and her kids are ridiculously healthy. I've not ever seen such shiny kids!!

Ok, tattooing their tails has really confused me 😂 thanks for showing how that works. I have a tattoo pen for my rabbits but I assume that won’t work with the goats because they probably won’t hold still long enough

Thanks I wondered exactly how you did the tails. I used to tatoo my rabbits all the time, 40 yrs ago but have never done a goat. So my friend is coming probably tomorrow to help me do this years kids. I got a very nice set from Hamby's Dairy Supply, they have an option to order their kit with 2 pliers so I did that and got an extra set of numbers, it all came in a cute little Stanley tool box.

We use the smaller clamps for rabbits and it works well. That way we can do it when they’re smaller and have someone hold them. We also keep two so we don’t have to constantly switch out the stamps. I actually prefer tattooing the tails versus the ears. I think it’s easier :)
