Wow I've been watching you since the start, I can't believe you are at the final doctor now!!! Maybe you could do some classic Dr who when you've finished with him? Great reaction as always
It's awesome that you're getting around to watching Arcane! Easily my favorite animated series from recent years.
Damn, I've been watching your Doctor Who reactions for so long. It's such a shame that Deep Breath is blocked, you are terrific at theorizing and discussing, you are like my ASMR reactor :) I so wanted to hear your initial thoughts about this new era. There is a bit of an ulterior motive as well, it's my favourite Doctor.
*Here's to Matt Smith!!*
What a fitting end to his Doctor. I’m not a big fan of season 7 as a whole but I’m glad he does get some conclusion and finality. Matt smith was perfect as the doctor and I’m so glad we got to see him for 3 seasons.
Definitely take some time to grieve Matt, but get excited because Capaldi is beyond excellent. His Doctor is a little rough around the edges at first, but his arc is just chef's kiss, and Capaldi's performance throughout is one of my favorites ever, regardless of show.
Both Matt and Karen were wearing wigs as they'd both shaved their heads for other roles... Her for Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy and him for his part in Lost River. I really liked the abrupt regeneration. It was different and shocking... a nice change for the long drawn out ones we've had up to this one.
It was very long and drawn out. hahaha.
I love the music here. Bringing together the themes from Amy, The Long Song (Clara on Akhaten) and Trenzalore really is an excellent tale in music as we say goodbye.
Tasha Lem was supposed to be River but Kingston wasn't available so you have that spot on
oh my, I forgot how emotional this one was (well, as are all the regenerations). I adore Matt Smith, he was actually my first doctor! I watched the first few episodes of season 5 at a friend's house, then went home and immediately started from the beginning of NuWho. So it's sad to see him go, but I am just so so so excited for Capaldi's run, I think him and Clara are a truly spectacular pair!
I saw a clip of Matt Smith reading the script and at the final line he was in tears and he needed a hug from Moffat
You are going to adore Capaldi.
11 is my favourite and i love season 7, but 12 is on another level and has some incredible episodes. Especially with Clara who's my favorite companion.
You have a lot to look forward to!
You've already started season 8 so i think i can mention this:
An actress talked about the difference between Smith's Doctor and Capaldi's Doctor and say that- Matt is running around the room like a child, Peter spins the room around himself.
I think that is so right, and his take on the Doctor is phenomenal.
One explanation I like for the quick regeneration is that the 11th was ready to go and didn't fight it, while the 10th tried to hold on as long as he could and made the transformation much more destructive as a result.
It's fast cause he used it to destroy the Dalek ship
The two most heartbreaking companion exits of NuWho, Donna Noble and Handles.
Damn, this is a bit of a packed finale but it still hits really hard at the end. The Doctor looking after so many people, and his attempts to save Clara both times, and his speech and regeneration. I am so excited for you to see Capaldi now, he's my favourite Doctor and has so many brilliant stories and moments to come. The clock strikes 12...
It's a small part of a major regeneration special but the reveal of what the Silence really are is one of my favourite moments. It's such clever writing.
I love that they brought the Silence back and tried to explain them. However, the idea of them being confessional priests doesn’t make any sense to me: if you don’t remember confessing, how can that help you??
@@theadamabrams because you feel better subliminally but also you don’t feel ashamed of having confessed something embarrassing
So Time of the Doctor is an episode that a lot of fans dislike just because it feels incredibly rushed and unrefined, critiques that I personally agree with, but with that being said this is still one of my favourite episodes in the entire show. What an amazing sendoff for a beloved Doctor. The entire episode was so emotional and a love letter to 11. I was absolutely distraught when 11 left because 12 felt so strange. Because similar to what you mentioned, 9, 10 and 11 were played by handsome young men and had this dashing, charm about them whereas 12 does not fit the bill whatsoever. In the episodes to come 12 became my favourite Doctor of all time lmao and I honestly have a sneaky suspicion that you'll love him as well.
You are so correct about this episode being a love letter to 11. The episode has its issues no doubt, but Smith's performance is truly amazing. I've had more appreciation for the episode on rewatches.
It's a gigantic mess of an episode and I love it
I didn’t realize this episode was so unpopular with some fans. Except for the Tasha Lem stuff, I thought this episode was fantastic. (On first viewing, the sneezgeneration bothered me, but I’m fine with that now.)
i had a similar experience of at first not liking 12 to him becoming my absolute favourite
The doctor usually have emotional last words, but here I live that they could be said by both The Doctor and Matt Smith.
“I will always remember when The Doctor was me”, while looking straight at us
i never clicked a youtube notification as fast as clicked this one
Samee lmfao
I’m so excited for you to watch capaldi’s era! It’s a bit of a switch in the tone but honestly it’s amazing. He gives a completely different vibe to the other new who doctors but Moffat make it work so well and no one can play it better then capaldi
11th was my favorite Doctor and that last episode was amazing as well as his last moments. We will too remember when he was the Doctor x). I like Capaldi's doctor a lot, so I'm looking forward to your next reaccccctions
It's the end of my favorite era and my favorite Doctor. This episode is one that has gotten better for me on rewatches. It still feels rushed at times so maybe it could've been a little longer, but what makes me really enjoy the episode is Matt Smith's performance. A lot of people don't talk about the performance Smith gives us in this episode, it's one of the very best from the show. Smith also has the best Regeneration scene from all of the Doctors, it's so poetic and simple. On top of that, his speech is absolutely beautiful, I always get emotional whenever I watch the scene. Goodnight Raggedy man!
I can't wait to see what you think of Capaldi because I think he's the best actor to be cast as the Doctor. IMO, I did find the writing to be a bit of a mixed bag at times, but the performances Capaldi gives is out of this world.
I started with 9 but now MY Doctor has arrived. He takes some getting used to but man Peter gives some incredible performances.
I started with 10 and love and appreciate all the incarnations but Peter is very much MY Doctor as well. Looking forward to going on this journey again and just as much looking forward to seeing Missy again too 😍
You’re a mess? Well I’m a mess with you, all over again. Thank you and bless you for your reactions. So lovely.
Welcome to the Peter Capaldi era! I am excited for you to see him portray his Doctor. My second favourite Doctor. Series 10 is an absolute gem. Series 8 has a lot of gems too. Good luck on this journey. 😌👍
I watch Matt Smith's final scene several times a year, it always hits me so hard every time, they did such a beautiful job
Matt Smith cried when he read his speech in the read-through of the script.
It’s a nice bit of continuity that the new doctor starts out wearing the previous one’s clothes, that they don’t get what is considered “their outfit” until the next episode.
Also, Matt smith had to patch the console unit. It was mentioned a couple times. Clara had to hang up the phone before entering the tardis. So who did the doctor need to call right before he regenerated into Peter Capaldi? Most mysterious.
SPOILERS FOR 14th DOCTOR: I initially thought the fact that the 13 → 14 regeneration changed the clothes was rather stupid, but in an interview RTD made an valid point that if they had put David in Jodie’s clothes then some people would latch on to that image and meme-ify it and so on. He didn’t want that. And of course David already had an established outfit, so they didn’t need to make that process part of the post-regen episode like they usually do.
@@theadamabrams okay….
Absolutely love the Long song playing for 11th’s regeneration and recontextualises the lyrics to be about the Doctor
Matt Smith was a great Doctor and he had a fantastic send off.
Can’t wait for you to finally start my favorite Doctor. Series 8 can be a bit rocky at times, but Series 9 is imo the best season of Who. An Adventure in Space and Time is going to blow you away and make you bawl your eyes out.
And so concludes the Matt Smith era... just like you, I was a weepy mess at the end. That was a beautiful send-off.
11 will always be my doctor, this finale still hits so hard. Miss him so much man. 12 imo is the best doctor and is really amazing
Matt Smith was such an excellent Doctor, and his regeneration scene was so perfect. To be honest, Capaldi has become my favourite New Who Doctor. It was so good to see an older person play the Doctor again, like in the classic era. An older actor really works for me because this character is supposed to be 2000 years old and has travelled through all time and space and been through so many incredible experiences, that seems more convincing for me if it comes from an older person. And as for how older people are represented in the media and thought of in society, how great is it to have someone > 50 as an adventure hero! As I approach my own 50th, Capaldi stands as a great hero for me. Only Doctor Who can pull off such a wonderful concept. But Matt Smith was definitely so naturally good at the role. "I will always remember when The Doctor was him." I look forward to more of your very good videos!
I can't wait for your reactions to Capaldi's Doctor! The humour and relationship between him and Clara❤️
You're gonna love capaldi. I was unsure at first but by the end of his run he was one of my favourites
Capaldi is my fav doctor by far. Really excited for you to see him evolve
Soooo excited for you to see the 12 and Clara dynamic!
Since this is my all-time favorite version of the Doctor, this episode and his regeneration were particularly heart breaking and emotional for me!!!
I think the implication is that the doctor will eventually go to trenzalore to die. The fall of the 11th on the fields of tranzalore already happened. There's no saying that he can't choose his burial when it eventually happens.
Eleven’s final speech is heart wrenchingly beautiful and moving, and just so him. So much grace in his final farewell. despite all he suffered and lost, his farewell is full of love and appreciation for all his experiences and for all his past selves that shaped him. Eleven and Matt Smith as 11 are an absolute treasure. I love your comments on how his regeneration is a celebration of the character and actor. That’s spot on.
I’m sad that your finally at the end of my favourite Doctor and my favourite era.
Looking forward to seeing what you think of Peter.
That's great that you'll be checking out An Adventure in Space and Time. I'm pretty sure you're not expecting it to be as moving as I think you may find it to be.
Yes I'm a fan of classic Who, and I never expected modern Doctors to trump my love for some of those earlier Doctors, but my top five are now:
1) Capaldi (One of the slowly-evolving Doctors, I think.)
2 Smith
3) Troughton
4) Davison
5) Pertwee.
So two modern Doctors now top my list!
Great reaction to a super emotional episode 🥹 Matt is just amazing. Heartbreaking every time I see him leave. Onto the era of Capaldi 🕶️
Capaldi army rise up!
Our time has come ♡♡
Supposedly Steven Moffat did have some ideas for the possibility of Matt Smith staying on for a fourth season of some description, however Matt did ultimately decide he wanted to leave after series 7 & the 50th anniversary. Obviously we don't know what form this hypothetical series 8 would've taken in structure and stories compared to the one we got with the 12th Doctor, but I can see how it would've worked.
This somewhat explains why elements of this episode feel rushed, as it has to conclude the 11th Doctor's era in a single special instead - but I do think the story is still a success overall, and really lands the thematic/emotional beats. Matt is on top form of course, and Jenna is similarly brilliant - Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor really demonstrate the potential of her character and kickstarts the development she has going forward.
Cannot wait to see what you make of Capaldi!
I feel like I heard somewhere that more recently Matt Smith said he regrets leaving when he did but don’t quote me on that lol
@@NJH01 you're close! He basically said that choosing to move on is always really hard and although he considered the possibilities, it was something he felt he had to do. He explained that his final episode isn't necessarily the best and that there's always room for improvement, but that he loved the body of work he had produced leading up to his departure and commended Moffat's writing on the whole.
Not so much regrets about when he left, but the episode in which he leaves. If you want the specific quote search "Q&A Matt Smith Heroes Comic Con Brussels 2022" and go to the 24 minute mark
The re-generation scene always makes me tear up. For me, it is the best and Matt is my favourite Doctor. I grew up watching Tom Baker and he will always be THE Doctor for me (and others who grew up in the 70s and 80s) but Matt Smith has somehow become MY Doctor. He was brilliant.
One of the best episodes of the entire series, and a perfect ending for my favourite doctor.
Moffat never dissapoints with his finales, which, especially compared to Russell's weak endings, are just amazing. I felt that this episode was really well paced, and I wouldnt change the pacing, although I can see how other people might find it rushed.
“Now *please*, just go into the Tardis and do. as. I. say.” And she immediately does it. Noteworthy moment going forward into s8!
Matt Smith hurt his foot and needed crane, but the crane walk was awesome
love handles, love amys cameo, love the music, love the goodbye speech, above all I love eleven! yes the episode was a bit squashed and could of used more time but it makes me cry nonetheless and I am excited to catch up with the rest of your reactions
the era of capoldi is the best for me. i hope you like it.
“i will always remember when the doctor was me” 😭
The madame kovarian story in retrospect is hilarious. She's like an evil mr bean who just constantly creates the very things she is trying to stop.
😆
Matt Smith. Absolute LEGEND.
Great reaction. Looking forward to seeing you react to Capaldi (he has some of my favorite episodes).
LEGEND.
@@_FILMBuFF_ MS is my doctor, always will be. He’s such an amazing actor. I’m really pleased you enjoyed his run.
Really love 12 a ton, he was the first Doctor I saw on live tv. The rest of the show I saw on Netflix when it was on there long ago. :)
Capaldi is a GREAT Doctor.
My favourite Matt Smith episode happens to be his last one, loved how everything came full circle and his regeneration speech is my favourite
Great final for Smith's era!
Gotta love how this ep makes me feel heartbroken over a cybermans head. Goodbye 11 it's time for 12 to take the stage💙
I was so confused and annoyed when Capaldi was cast because he was already in dr who and torchwood and I wanted to see someone else BUT... when I saw him in a few episodes of a show called Skins I honestly couldn't see anyone else doing it lol I loved him so much and I'm excited to see what you think of him. ✌️
Oh snap yes you should watch the 50th anniversary dr who tv biopic for many reasons lol ✌️
You are finally on my favorite Doctor. This is so exciting.
Peter Capaldi is a fantastic doctor, my 2nd fav. Unfortunately I felt by his 3rd season Who had dwindled, his first two seasons are pretty good and Capaldi is still great and carried the 3rd season for me. After his 3rd season Who took a serious nose dive and I haven't watched Who since. I hope you don't feel the same
Handles 😢
The crazy thing is that in-universe the Doctor spent more time with Handles than with any other companion by far. RIP.
@@theadamabrams yes that's why it's really sad
We all change, all through our lives… like, breath on a mirror.
ugh, absolute end of an era. 11 will forever and always be my doctor and it hits me like it did the first time every time i see someone react to his end.. fun stuff to come for sure, i love s8&9 and capaldi.. but 11 will forever be missed
A sweet ending for the 11th doctor. Altho i think he should have properly regenerated at the top of the bell tower. Since matt smith is the youngest actor to play the doctor it would have been ironic if for his final scene he was made up to look like an old man.
Say what you want about the episode, say what you want about Matt.
But ya gotta admit that final speech is one of the best things in Who.
It certainly was for me. For me it was the saddest and most beautiful regeneration. The music cues, the way it's shot, the shift to little Amelia running up paper covered stairs... oof. Instant tears for me, and such a great statement. We're all different all through our lives. That's okay. Times change, so must we, but we should always remember all the people we used to be.
I loved Handles, I loved the montage of basically Eleven's swan song on Trenzalore to protect those people. Even though I mostly disdain Clara (in the middle chunk of her run mostly. Like her beginning, am kinda ok with her again at the end of her run), I love when she helps him pop the cracker.
Enter the Brows.
You ever sneezed so hard you turned into Peter Capaldi? 😂
And yes, Matt's Doctor is THE longest lived regeneration of the Doctor through the whole show, over a thousand years. Almost the entire collection of years spent on his prior regenerations. He's also the longest serving NewWho Doctor, on a minute for minute screen time basis. That's why his scene with Tom Baker in the 50th was so poignant, seeing as Tom Baker is the longest serving Classic Who Doctor, and the longest serving Doctor overall.
As for that regeneration, Matt quite openly admitted at a convention that he wasn't too happy with the choices that were made in the edit (speaking specifically about the first regeneration, atop the tower.) In his defence I believe the fan in question point-blank asked him, and he was honest, but apparently (revealed later at another convention,) he said that shortly after he'd made his views known he'd got an interesting email from the BBC where they were a bit like '???' and he was apparently quite 😬 The upside to being the Doctor is that it's a job that never really ends, but the down side is that in never really ends lmao. I don't think he knew they were still keeping an eye on him ha ha.
And yeah, we all actually thought she secretly was River Song lol, LEM = MEL ya know? Speaking of which, shortly before this episode was aired, Matt did a very brief video interview for an online publication (the footage of which has long since been lost to the sands of the internet, but the screengrabs crop up from time to time) where he said, "To fans of my Doctor, I want you to know he's safe and he's happy, he's with Amy now, and Rory, *and most importantly River."*
Overall this episode, like Series 7 generally, has some spectacular and deeply poignant highs, and some grating lows. A good tie up for number 11, but I think a poor tie up for Series 7. There are still a lot of loose threads that are just... never addressed again... Like that Gallifreyan USB stick that the Doctor and also later Clara weirdly plugs into the TARDIS both times before he thinks he's going to die, what the hell was THAT all about I wonder...
I’ve heard about him saying that at a convention, but didn’t hear about the second one. You wouldn’t happen to have links to any videos of them would you?
Me being sad over the "death" of a Cyberman head! Only in Doctor Who! LOL
Goodbye, Raggedy Man! 💔 Regenerations are always emotional experiences, but personally this one is the hardest for me to watch. Eleven's run was magical from start to finish and I won't go into comparisons because every Doctor is different, but nobody else has quite that same effect, and Matt Smith's performance is what makes it what it is. He's the Doctor I will always remember the most fondly.
That being said, hello Capaldi! My other favorite Doctor :D I can't decide on an all-time favorite so the best way I can put it is this: Peter Capaldi hasn't been able to surpass Matt Smith for me, and Matt Smith hasn't surpassed Peter Capaldi either. They're both #1 in my list. I've known people who stopped watching after Smith's run because they didn't like what the new Doctor was like, but they're seriously missing out. I frickin adore grumpy-grandpa-attack-eyebrows Twelve. Maybe it'll take you a bit time to warm up to him, or maybe you'll like him instantly like I have. You're spot on about how a more 'older' Doctor can bring something different to the table, and Peter is just..magnificent. There will be ups and downs like every other run, and there will be some of the most incredible episodes, memorable speeches, and some very fantastic characters. I'm looking forward to seeing you discover it all!
I too am excited to watch your reaction to 'an adventure in space and time'.
Matt was great, he could carry an episode with just only the Doctor and nothing more.
But then we got Peter Capaldi and I felt he could do that do. We're just so lucky to get those amazing Doctors.... I mean actors, who convince us they ARE the Doctor.
and now to my fav doctor and companion!
It’s a Difficult episode for me to process this one because Matt is still my *1 but Capaldi always makes me doubt if I actually believe that. All I know is you’re gonna like him!
Controversial Opinion:
Matt Smith alongside Jenna Coleman is the strongest acting dynamic Doctor Who has ever had. Such a shame we didn't get more of them together.
Wow that is an interesting take. Personally 12 and Clara >>> everything else lol. Their chemistry was like nothing I've ever seen.
I see where you're coming from. I think that's one of the reasons why I actually prefer 11 and Clara over 12 and Clara.
Donna and 10th will always have the best companion chemistry to me
i think 12 and clara had the best and most complex relationship out of any other duo.
My favourite Doctor is here! Bring on the eyebrows!
Really enjoying your reactions, keep it up👍🏻
Well ... Tasha Lem reminds you River Song ? There are theories about them. Have you noticed that Lem is the reverse of ... MEL ? And Matt Smith is really flirty with her, and he says ""You have been fighting the psychopath inside you all your life." ... And who is his bespoke psychopath ? River Song. Tasha Lem herself says "Flying the Tardis is easy". Who knows how to Fly the Tardis ? River Song. There are so many details I can't condense all of them in this commentary (mainly because I'm french ands it's harder to write in this langage than in mine ^^). In any case I really like your reactions, and I hope you'll like Capaldi's Doctor (for me, the best Doctor ever).
Technically it doesn't undo the grave a trenzalore, its just the doctor didn't die there in this episode. Maybe he dies there in the far distant future.
My doctor man this episode still hits 😢
Orla Brady there as Tasha Lem seen most recently in another Sci-Fi show Picard.
Goodbye Matt Smith, hello Peter Capaldi!
I really like this episode now, but it took me a couple of watches. Its packed full of so much plot. The main problem is that it was a Christmas Special aired on Christmas Day. In that context with families drinking wine and eating, then sitting down to watch, the episode has way too much going on to be able to follow while chatting. It probably would have benefitted being a normal season finale without the Christmas elements and received better. There is a seasons worth of content stuffed in here. But as a finale to Matts run its great, and completes the whole Silence story arc and works well.
Capaldi is awesome 😎 gonna be so interesting to see what you male of him and his companion
Wait... If he stood back-to-back with the Silence... how did he know?
It hath come!
Every time I watch this I keep saying, "I'm not going to cry I'm not going to cry I'm...." then I hear "Raggedy man" 😭😭😭😭😭
I don't think that the future was changed by the time lords giving a new regeneration cycle to the doctor. After all we already had the 12th Doctor in Day Of The Doctor and also the "curator" who is strongly hinted at being a future Doctor (looking like the 4th Doctor). I believe that the Doctor ultimately will be buried on Trenzalore when his time has come.
I was and will always be sad when watching this episode, because the 11th Doctor is my favourite. As others have said, though, Capaldi is the finest actor ever to play the role. Season 8 is a little rocky (IMO) but he really hits his stride in Season 9.
Also as far as I know, Handles is the longest companion at like 300 years or something? Of course we don’t get to see that. But I love that they’re somehow able to cause an emotional response in the audience when Handles dies. It really is sad and you can tell how deeply the doctor grieves him.
My Doctor, my Raggedy Man 😭😭😭
I always cry watching this. My favorite and least favorite episode. Matt smith did such a great job, but I hated seeing him go, because I just loved him so much 😢
Ye
No Deep Breath yet?
Yes, you are crying for a cyberman head
There's a theory that Tasha is river song for the reasons u mentioned
She's basically a clone, typical moffat troupes
They do have a lot of commonalities (which imo is unfortunate), but I really can’t see River running a church for centuries. She might take over a church for a week just for laughs, but Tasha honestly was religious, even dogmatic, and that is totally the opposite of River.
Time of the Doctor is a bit of a mess. But an enjoyable one regardless. It’s a series arc crammed into one episode.
I liked Matt's Doctor. I wasn't a huge fan of his era overall. I like certain episodes.
Why is the intro so long? 😭
matt certainly got a good exit from the show
Yes! Finally! Sorry, but I couldn't stand 11, and I like 12 a lot!!!
Season 9 episode 11 ... can't wait.
I've been watching all your.dcotor who reactions
