06:43 It's not just a software crop - even though most webcams are. It works just like a GoPro! You can see this in the pincushion effect of your doors on the right of the image. In Linear, they are straight up and down, in Wide, they are bowed inward. The lenses are changing the FOV. :) This is illustrated again at 10:43 when you're discussing the "distance" you seem from the camera. The fisheye effect of the lens changes keep you feeling up close while keeping the wide FOV. AVerMedia PW513 doesn't, meaning the lines are straighter but you feel further away.
I was just about to point this out. The slight zoom is a linear option so all of the distortion from the wide-angle 103 is now gone. Personally the Razer Kiyo is a look i prefer over all the others, mostly because of the higher contrast IMO it makes the subject pop and the others it feels like a smooth blend over the whole image
I understand that going more into the configs to get a good setup and each cam is different in each setup. With this vid and the comparisons that you give Alpha. I would have to say, that personally, I would go with the Razer Kiyo. The main reason for myself is that it looks so much more crisper than the others. I know that there may be some other pros/cons. With the ability to change the settings to get a more natural look, not just in the Razer software but also OBS itself. I would push down that way. Others might have other opinions and I respect them. Especially you share them
First video of yours I've seen. I like you. Your vibe is nice, you don't talk to fast and you know what you're talking about and explain it to the people who don't already know (like hdr) quite well
Man I recently found your channel, I must say this was the BEST webcam review Ive ever seen, they way you show all the differences between other webcams, and the way different settings look, I really liked it. Thinking about maybe streaming, Have a decent setup already would just really need a webcam to get started, having a basic version of everything else already and would invest to upgrade other things if I really got into it. Would love to see you do more review videos like this.
This is down to $99 right now. Worth it at this price. 1.05 firmware provides more focus control in Synapse as well. It might be worth a revisit video Harris for the small improvements.
The comparison to the GoPro hero was a surprising one! I couldn't really see the difference before but by the end I could! Gives me some things to think about! Thanks for a great comparison video!
Just a quick note regarding the business professionals using webcams: sometimes a webcam is the only option outside of the very sub-par integrated one because the IT department doesn't give admin rights and doesn't want everyone to install OBS, regardless of one's tech knowledge. That means that at least the phone option is out (I'm not sure if a cam link is detected as a webcam by conferencing software?). It doesn't make any of the points raised in the video any less valid but I thought it was unfair to assume that a "business professional" would not be tech savvy and this would be the reason their reason to go for a webcam :)
One job I worked at required you to call IT just to make sensitivity adjustments to your mouse. Probably not a big deal to the average office worker, but when you're duties are split between administration and design, that can be a real pain in the ass. My solution was to harass them constantly until they finally gave admin privileges just to stop hearing my voice.
Yea, but if that's your use case, then none of these web cams really are the right tool. These are designed for streamers, not corporate use. I have a very acceptable, far more portable, and less expensive webcam I use for my meetings.
So glad I came across your video. I just started my channel a few months ago and have just been using an old cell phone as my camera and trying so hard to decide what I want to upgrade to. I've thought the Razer was always pretty nice and now the Averman is also in the running. Your video definitely broke it down for me and now I just need to decide between the 2. Thanks for your info and really diving into the details.
Actually switching from a gopro hero3+ black/cheap capture card to one of these tomorrow. To me, the detail and clarity of this was all I needed to see. Nothing else you showed was close imo and I'm confident I can get the color/tonal settings close enough with adjustable temperature lights. Plus, messing with the settings on a gopro as a webcam is pretty annoying and limited. For example on the hero3+ your WB settings are limited to auto, 3000k, 5500k, 65000k, or raw. And auto isn't great. Also tried the logitech C920, but it went back in the box within 24 hours. Would drop to around 15 FPS in low light. Ultimately, I think this strikes the good balance between webcam pricing/ease of use and mirrorless/dslr quality, but we'll see! Excited to try it out. Just hope they fix the autofocus hunting issue soon.
Do you really need 60fps for your webcam tho ? this is what kills your set up xDD 60FPs for a cam is literally overkill and people don't even care about that sooo yeah
@@ChocoStream I’ll answer your question with a question. Forget 60 FPS for a webcam, do you even need a webcam in the first place? No, we could just use our phone. It all depends what you want to do with the webcam.
@@PleebsOG uses ur phone CPU which could have long term affects on batteries, you won’t have your phone available during calls & they’re a pain to connect to your PC sometimes.
@@ChocoStream No, I think you need 60FPS if you record in 1080p 60FPS. This way, the video is synced and there are no choppy errors because they both have the same resolution and framerate output
Low tech solution for measuring angle. Get 2 adjustable arms that can pivot. It could be old swing arms from a light or something like that. Have a card or something that sticks up at a distance probably 3-5 feet. Move the arms apart to where they are barely visible on each side. Then all you have to do is measure the angle with a protractor and you will know the exact angle. You could attach a protractor to one of the arms and then when you get them into position, all you have to do is look at the reading.
One of the biggest tells on quality for me was the blue light in the background - GoPro quality was WAY better. Risky buying a second hand product though... but worth the risk IMO! Great vid as always Harris, keep it up!
@@savagality I hope this analogy makes sense. So OP is looking at buying a second hand BMW M3 (which, for the sake of argument, is actually cheaper) as long as she can get professional training to safely enjoy the M3, otherwise, she will go for a low power Mustang. What you're suggesting is that you went to the dealership for a low power Mustang and ended up with a Camry so she should consider the Camry because it's more than enough for your needs. Also, she doesn't need to worry about rear wheel drive. Does that sum it up?
I have the non Pro version of the Kiyo for $99. Works fairly decent and gives some additional lighting. If or when I upgrade I would be more in favor of the GoPro. if you are going to hit the $200 price point, you might as well be in the position to give yourself the most options. The only downside is learning how all the function work. If you're streaming to make money, that's part of it. You have to learn as much as you can to get better. Better tools require more knowledge.
of the three webcams to me the Logitech looks the best, but i also like slightly desaturated video like log with contrast added, but the gopro is probably the best value, best image. You can probably lock exposure with most of the webcams.. but probably not as easily with the iPhone. Thats definitely another big plus with the gopro. No drifting focus/exposure when you standup to do 20 jumping jacks for a donation or whatever. Great video harris
They're just making blind money...For just a webcam I won't invest that much money... I can use my old mobile as webcam which is better quality than any webcams....
This was really interesting. While the streamcam doesn't have the best image, I think Logitech nailed it with the exposure and focus settings. The razer was a little bit struggling in my opinion. And avermedia just wasn't there with the sharpness. But I think the best all around is still the razer.
EXACTLY! I went to this, I just made a long comment thread on his elgato video. I feel bad for the other high end webcams, the tone/conclusion/suggestions he's makiing is inconsistent for webcam reviews. ;(
This is amazing. THe kiyo looks the best out of almost every product shown... as someone who uses a camera for work all those gopro camlink blah de blah whatever. I gotta move my stuff all the time so I can keep working with it! This camera looks great!
get a warranty replacement dude, you probably just ended up with a defective unit since it’s a new product, you’ve got a year of warranty so nothing to be worried about.
Alpha i been struggling for a cam settings etc on my cheap c930 for my Iracing facebook streams. after watching this video i defiantly think the Razer Kiyo Pro LOOKS the best, especially for what i would be needing it for. thanks for doing this comparison
Not gonna lie, I liked the look of the Razer out of all the webcams. I liked the sharper, more saturated look compared to the others. But you sold me on that GoPro setup there at the end. It looked super clean and to your point it's not scrapping the entire setup when you upgrade.
The main advantage of a webcam vs., say, a phone or a GoPro is that a webcam is plug-and-play. You just plug it into any computer, and it works because it's a single-purpose device. Other video devices are not as seamless to use as your webcam; you need to power them on/off, use software. For example, I tried to use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 as a webcam. Sure, the image quality is amazing (since it has a one-inch sensor), but I could not make it save the zoom setting. So every time I turn on my computer, I need to zoom in (since it's a very wide angle by default). Sure, if you want to maximize your video quality, you would go as far as using a DSLR camera. But for most people, the image quality of modern webcams is good enough, so the extra hassle is not worth it, in my opinion.
The Razer actually did a lot better than I assumed it was. I ended up upgrading from my old Logitech c920 from 2016 to a Razer Kiyo Pro during black Friday this year. They had it marked down to 100 dollars which I feel like made it a STEAL. I think at 200 though it is for sure a bit overpriced. Thanks for the amazing review though! This helped me solidify my choice at picking up the razer while it was cheap!
I've been using my phones for working from home, which has been a Note 10+, and now a Z Fold 3. My boss has a stigma about using phones. Thinks it means less professional. Picked up the Kiyo at the discounted $99. Seems okay but my phone does just as well. So I'll be rubbing that in my boss's face at every opportunity. Great vid!
Another thing worth mention is that there is usually some audio/video offset you may need to correct with the iPhone or GoPro setup, which can be a pain in the butt
I find the GoPro looks awsome! I would have loved if you would have shown off your DSLR setup as well. I have a DSLR (Nikon D5600), which I never have used for streaming so far, I will look for a tutorial as well
The Kiyo Pro DOES save to the camera, but not if you are using Synapse. I don't have Synapse installed at all and that does mean I can't use HDR or the FOV settings, but all the settings I change (using OBS) persist when I restart or unplug the camera with the possible exception of the gain setting (which never saved on the Kiyo, either). The weirdest thing about the Kiyo Pro to me is that it seems a bit softer and has a bit more chromatic aberration than the original Kiyo, but the upshot is significantly improved lighting and frame rate.
I have a ton of cameras: - an older DSLR (a Pentax K5 from 2010). My DSLR doesn’t have a clean HDMI out (unfortunately). - a Sony camcorder (also from 2010), which has the clean HDMI out, but doesn’t have a wide angle. - a GoPro Hero 8, which works great over an RTMP server (with about a 5 second delay), and is very hit or miss as a webcam over USB. I can’t use both the camcorder and GoPro over camlinks at the same time (I build LEGO on stream and use the camcorder as a top down camera). - a avermedia PW513, works great. Love it. One complaint, I can’t run this camera through a USB switcher so I can use it on a work PC and a personal PC. - a avermedia PW313, works great. Image quality isn’t top notch, but it was cheaper and works with my USB switcher. So to review, I now have a three camera setup at my desk, I can also use a GoPro as an IRL camera around the house / town over the RTMP server all because I don’t want to buy a second DSLR lol
Yes the plug and play convenience of a webcam is important when you also use it for work - i.e. don't have admin rights to install additional software on a work laptop so can't use the software required to use an old phone/go-pro as a webcam. (which sucks, but man's gotta make a living too!).
I don't know if it was the RUclips encoding, but I thought both the color and clarity of the Avermedia looked a bit worse than the Kiyo, even after you fixed it mid recording. I'm going to go with a Kiyo because it looks the best to me here in the video playback. The Hero looked good, much better than the iphone, but not enough to justify all the extra steps.
I feel like the best option is turning your phone into a webcam. The reason being when you are ready to upgrade it used to be you needed a cam link and HDMI. But since 2019 we have seen a transition from that to just being able to plug in the camera via USB and use them as webcams. Nikon, Sony, and Canon kind of put it in all their cameras these days. So you are better off saving that 200$ waiting until you can afford a basic $500 camera if you really care about the image quality and having access to all the settings. Hell, you can pick up a Rebel T3 with lenses for $200 which is compatible with the EOS webcam utility, and just use a USB cable and are good to go. And I guarantee it will have better quality than a GoPro.
Sony a6000 for me. although wildly out of budget for this specific purpose alone, a lot of people already have a mirrorless camera laying around for filming vlogs, taking photos, etc. Simply use that with a nice lense and boom. top tier quality webcam.
Want to get your feedback. For how many of you is the simple plug and play/consistency of a webcam enough to buy it over the GoPro or phone setup?

I'm disappointed with the lack of RGB on the Viper mouse which is actually a good mouse not overpriced trash like the ones Razer made before

Not only do I always find all your videos super helpful, just learning about stuff I don’t necessarily have an interest in is really fun. Something you’re doing right for sure.
Personally the Razer Kiyo is a look i prefer over all the others, mostly because of the higher contrast IMO it makes the subject pop and the others it feels like a smooth blend over the whole image
I happy for you man, I remember when you dropped stream beats and look where it is at now. Keep up the amazing work.

Just picked up the kiyo pro for $99 super glad I wait for Amazon to have a sale
When you’ve already listened to the entire rock album multiple times before he announced in this video.
The Razer Kiyo pro is on sale for $100 right now. Looking at it less for streaming more for work conferences
I wish I would've saved money for a DSLR or a GoPro. Bought the Logitech Brio 4K and it's absolute garbage.
Cam Link is detected as a webcam in conferencing software
Yea, but if that's your use case, then none of these web cams really are the right tool. These are designed for streamers, not corporate use. I have a very acceptable, far more portable, and less expensive webcam I use for my meetings.
All of the $20 HDMI to USB dongles I've used from amazon are all recognised as a standard webcam in my experience.
@@kurtpleavin Nice, that's good to know! Thanks for the hint!
Thanks for your info and really diving into the details.
tfw the logitech streamcam gets more expensive as the video goes on
Honestly I like that slightly oversaturated and sharp look of the Kiyo pro more than anything. The Hero black was my second favorite
I never thought I would add copyright free music to my playlist. This is fire
I think the Razer actually looks the best. Too bad it didn’t have HDR at 60fps.
@@YukyDoodle absolutely which is why I have a Razer Kiyo.
Well seeing as avermedia just dropped the price of the 513 to 199 I'd say 1000% it's the winner here
It doesn't look as sharp or contain the fine details IMO
You saved me soooooooo much time by telling me my iPhone could be a webcam. Dude. You earned a subscriber just for that!
The intro of this video is funny considering the fact that almost every gaming webcam on the internet is constantly sold out.
One of the biggest tells on quality for me was the blue light in the background - GoPro quality was WAY better.
Risky buying a second hand product though... but worth the risk IMO!
Great vid as always Harris, keep it up!
Damn, this webcam is impressive.
Loving this video, great AB comparison style. However, the audio-video sync is driving me mental haha
GoPro is looking better and I will choose that option if there's enough tutorials online how to set it up, otherwise, I will go for the Razer Kiyo.
Probably the most abundant high quality tutorials on youtube are on lighting and camera settings so you should be covered.
Most cheap gopros have overheating issues. I'd suggest you rock the Kiyo instead.
@@savagality Ive had more issues with logitech's software than synapse but that might be a personal experience

@@threepe0 are u broke?
of the three webcams to me the Logitech looks the best, but i also like slightly desaturated video like log with contrast added, but the gopro is probably the best value, best image.
So true, and even wirelessly
This was really interesting. While the streamcam doesn't have the best image, I think Logitech nailed it with the exposure and focus settings. The razer was a little bit struggling in my opinion. And avermedia just wasn't there with the sharpness. But I think the best all around is still the razer.
The video: *says one view*
Me: ooh yay I’m early

I like the older Kiyo with the ring light.
Have it. Gets the stuff that I need done.
Not gonna lie, I liked the look of the Razer out of all the webcams. I liked the sharper, more saturated look compared to the others. But you sold me on that GoPro setup there at the end. It looked super clean and to your point it's not scrapping the entire setup when you upgrade.
i just got a Sony a5100 camera to use for streaming rather than a webcam and im not regretting it quality seems pretty good
The main advantage of a webcam vs., say, a phone or a GoPro is that a webcam is plug-and-play.
The Avermedia cam goes for $200 now on Amazon, and less used
The Razer actually did a lot better than I assumed it was.
Great vid!
I just wanna say thank you very much for your music and I always give credit to you when I stream on twitch or do youtube videos.
Another thing worth mention is that there is usually some audio/video offset you may need to correct with the iPhone or GoPro setup, which can be a pain in the butt
To my eye, when comparing all three at the end, the Kiyo looked by far the best. Much clearer, much more smooth.
I have a ton of cameras:
- an older DSLR (a Pentax K5 from 2010).
Thanks for the invention of StreamBeats again, Harris. 😎
Yes the plug and play convenience of a webcam is important when you also use it for work - i.e. don't have admin rights to install additional software on a work laptop so can't use the software required to use an old phone/go-pro as a webcam. (which sucks, but man's gotta make a living too!).
Let's just appreciate the guitar picks on his table for being there🥰
I don't know if it was the RUclips encoding, but I thought both the color and clarity of the Avermedia looked a bit worse than the Kiyo, even after you fixed it mid recording. I'm going to go with a Kiyo because it looks the best to me here in the video playback. The Hero looked good, much better than the iphone, but not enough to justify all the extra steps.
Thanks for recommending streambeats! The music started playing at volumes unimaginable. I may be partially deaf now.
You knocked it out 'da park with this video. Answered all my questions and provided me with multiple choices. Great job! v/r, Dr. NT
Simply use that with a nice lense and boom. top tier quality webcam.
thanks for explaining that HDR thing man. 10/10
