Is your sewing machine a Singer 401A? If so what do you think about that machine? I loved your satin Hollywood nightgown, I only wish it was modeled by a human. I reminded me of something Barbara Stanwyck or Bette Davis would wear in one of those wonderful old movies from the 40s. Let me know about your sewing machine because I am contemplating buying one.
I adore the way the straps were out through the button hole and wrapped around the bow. I have seen a few things in silk charmeuse and I love the way they feel, but I have yet to try buttonholes of any kind on that material... maybe now I will try some. I have mainly used 12mm to 19mm silk charmeuse... what mm or weight do you think the silk crepe back satin was that you used? I see online there is 30mm but once you get to 40mm doesn’t that become like thick duchess satin?
Sorry it took a minute to get back to you. I bought that fabric at least 15 years ago. I was looking to see if I had saved any of the information about it, but alas no. So I have to guess on the thickness. I did buy a heavier weight because it was a wedding dress and we were not skimping on the price of the fabric. So I would guess it was 40 mm. So no, it does not become like duchess satin. Totally different weave, feel, and drape. The crepe back is what gives it that ooey-gooey, drape off the body lushness.
Queen De Luxe Thank you for answering my question. I definitely don’t expect immediate responses so no worries. I want to make my own 1930s wedding gown and have been trying to build up some silk crepe weight knowledge.. the items I made with 12mm(slips) are quite thin. 19 mm is better but still somewhat transparent.. but had yet to work with anything heavier due to cost. This is a big help! And thanks for clarifying that 40mm is not duchess satin and that it is different entirely. Happy sewing! Can’t wait to see what you do next!
@queendeluxe This is absolutely beautiful! I love your work! You are so skilled! Is there any way that you could share the pattern? Or how can l make it myself?
I appreciate your demonstration. However, the music is a little too loud and distracting. We can’t hear your voice very well during some of the video. 🙂
Glamorous! You know I’m here for it. Ah the joys of puzzling scrapes to make another garment...don’t blame you for wanting to use that silk up!
I am all about not letting pretty fabric go to waste🤗
Hi love the vintage vibe love slips and all things vintage 👌🏾🏳️🌈👍🦹🏾♂️🧕🏿
Thank you for including the button hole tutorial! I will definitely try this method as machine button holes scare me! Really helpful tutorial!
Glad it was helpful. If you have never done a bound button hole before be sure to do a sample. There is a bit of a learning curve. Best of luck!
The bound buttonhole reminds me of doing those plackets in class, hahaha. It turned out gorgeous!
They are a bit like a placket. I have never thought about that before🤔Thanks for the complement. Hope to see you soon!
Very elegant👍
Absolutely fabulous - thank you so much for sharing!
Great walk through! Could hardly hear you sometimes as the music was too loud
Such a beautiful way to attach those straps! Thanks for sharing!
Jenni is Riveted right! This is why I love sewing vintage patterns, it’s the cute details.

Thank you for this tutorial. It was very helpful. Not a fan of the music.
For me with size 46" bust its hatd to get a vintage pattern from the 40s or 50s
Even not nightgown-patterns
The music was too loud. I really couldn't hear you very well. It made it off putting for me. Shame, as I was interested in this.

I thought you were going to model it.
