“Kirks just doing his own thing” is literally the best way to describe his solos, it’s like he doesn’t even hear the riff he’s playing over before playing his solo
He has said he goes in and does random stuff, then James and Lars piece it together how they want. The Kirk-hate is so overblown when he is being told to do random shit
@@rayray5091 His solos are lacking because of lars and james. Listen to Portals, that has some great solos. Maiden and the Monster has IMO the best kirk solo since the black album
This video already hit 1 out of 10, I guess I should post reactions to the rest of the album? Also, yes I will upload playthroughs of all the songs as they become available in Rocksmith!
My favorite song on the album, and tied with Bone for my favorite song from Load onwards. It sounds like the darker sibling of the Black Album Thrashers, like Holier and Struggle. They haven't written anything this mean sounding in a long time. Epic, yes, but not just fucking evil like this.
I think Bread-and-butter in the way it's sung. This is my favorite song on the album also. I really like the Shadows Follow version with the And Justice For All tone someone did on youtube. Is unbelievable bad ass
After listening to the album a couple of times, I can say that I enjoy pretty much all the songs that weren’t released as singles prior to the album release (I enjoy most of the singles too) but there’s something about Inamorata that has me hooked. That section that starts @ 6.40 in Inamorata gives me such a …And Justice For All/Black Album vibe with the 3-4 guitar harmony (in particular My Friend of Misery)
3:40 one of the best parts of the album, kind of reminiscent of something you'd hear from TBA. The best part of Metallica has always been those melodic layered guitar riffs and they rarely do it as much as they should. That awesome riff goes by only to be replaced by something a lot less memorable. One of the biggest things that has stood out to me on this album and even the few before it is James vocals. I'm in the camp that thinks he sounds strained and tired. There used to be a ton of dynamics to his voice. The lower register vocals that we used to hear on songs like One, Sad but True, Roam, Until it Sleeps etc..have all but vanished. Nowadays he pretty much stays in one range and rarely fluctuates out of it. I do think his delivery sounds better on this record compared to the last two, where he'd spit out the lyrics as fast as he could with the only requirement being that it had to rhyme. That has been a big issue for me trying to get into anything by the band post 2000. It's not just the riffs aren't what they used to be, but the vocals are nowhere near it either. St. Anger was the first time that I thought they sounded bad. Even though I'm primarily and 80's Metallica fan, I still think Load and Reload are better than most of the stuff they've released lately regardless of them playing faster and heavier again. I don't find that to be a requirement for quality material. There were points in the new album where it sounded like James was channeling his inner Iommi, only for that idea to fly by way too fast. There was a lot of unnecessary fat that they could've trimmed off a lot of these songs. I thought Lux was a banger when I first heard it and hoped it would be the blueprint for the album but that wasn't the case. That song sticks out quite a bit compared to the rest and it was like 3 and a half minutes. There was a reason they released that one first.
Seventh! I did enjoy the song, but yeah some of these songs seem to be made with the st. Anger strategy, then also have a solo. And it ends up out of place. But, I'm not the one writing it, right?
I am finding this, Inamorata, Screaming Suicide, Sleepwalking, and 72 Seasons the best for either massive riffs or brilliant choruses. Shadows, at least for me, is the single best riffy song on the album, and Inamorta's chorus is just brilliant. I still say it is very Bleeding Me/Outlaw Torn/Fixxxer-ish...and those were my favorite songs on the Load/Reload albums!
I can see you trying to find reasons to be critical. Don’t force it, man. Embrace the badassness of this album. It’s amazing and we all know it. Just enjoy it!
I'm gonna keep uploading reactions, and if you keep watching them you will start to see that I have a problem with them having 7 minute songs, and then around 4 minutes in they bring in a way cool riff and then finish the song by playing off that riff Kinda makes me go "why did I have to wait so long for the cool part?"
agreed on your points, good parts all round and a really good melody but yeah, absolute WAH-fest. Also, at 5:40 in 72 Seasons (ruclips.net/video/1OeC9CGtWcM/видео.html) and 5:05 in Chasing Light (ruclips.net/video/cCCrvwSluGs/видео.html), those bits of the solos sounds similar to something on Rust in Peace, not sure if its a bit from holy wars or another one
As much as I love Kirk and this album, I feel like he repeats the same solo 2 or 3 times each song. It's a great album, I just love making fun of him now lol
I like Too Far Gone?, Room of Mirrors and Inamorata only from this album. Too Far is a bit boring but it's different to most of it. Mirrors has some actually catchy harmony and Inamorata is actually just well written as a whole, feels less Metallica by ChatGPT than the rest of the record.
Metallica he’s been back on it ever since Death Magnetic, that being said I no longer Hate Black Album through St. Anger, I can truly say, I’m a Metallica Fan & no longer just a fan of Kill through Justice & Death through Hardwired, [sorry, I had a brain fart & either forgot Hardwired, or even worse, though Hardwired came before LuLu] what can I say, I Love Lou Reed & Velvet Underground & to me Spoken Word being performed with a Thrash Metal Band Works, it’s like Slam Poets performing with Jazz Bands but with Thrash Metal instead of course! I’m definitely going to check out 72 Seasons. I will admit that Bob Rock is the one that convinced them to go for a mass-appealing sound, promising Metallica it would be uncompromising Heavy Metal, he might be right, because those albums have something for every Metalhead, not just The Thrash Metal Crowd. & I heard Black Album riff tapes where the riffs were still thrashy, & I’m not talking about the riff tapes from deluxe editions of the Black Album but even earlier riff tapes, with a truly fast version of Sad But True as well as an interview of James saying that they never sold out, & I believe it, I mean, look at Jump In The Fire & Seek & Destroy; For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fade to Black the filler Escape, The Thing That Should Not Be, Sanitarium & my personal favorite from Master Leper Messiah & the fact that Justice was absolutely the proto-Black Album. But I definitely prefer Thrash Metal, absolutely. I don’t think Metallica sold out, but even if they did, it’s good for The Metal at the end of the day regardless because it gives Metal exposure, I know, boooooo, but let’s be honest. & You can totally get a major deal without selling out too, just look at Tool, Tool kept asking for less & less money until they’re signers gave Tool all the Rights & Creative Control, that’s the Secret, if you keep asking for less money, you can put out what You want. If bands perused major label deals, Punk & Metal wouldn’t be “dead,” & how are you going to change the world & get your music & message out there by only playing for small groups of people, you have to get out there & expose yourself to the masses, & then you can save the world, rather than just small groups of people. I will say this, Lars was always a businessman & in the business of making it. He really should be a producer, he definitely knows how to put together songs, he even admits that he never practices or plays drums in his free time & only plays & practices with Metallica. Metallica is his band too, so we’re stuck with him. He’s got the head for music, just not the passion.
I saw your criticism about "shadows follow", too vain for what you play, I saw your playthrough and the truth is that that distortion sounds horrible, without force. I also watched other videos and your bendings are skinny and without energy. You should practice more before making a general opinion.
The drumming and lead guitar work on this album is just so uninspired and uncreative that I can barely listen to it. Not like Lars has ever really pushed the envelope or anything, but, you can't mix in a drum fill somewhere? Or something?
You should stop having such high expectations and standards for Metallica. They’re not what they were in the 80s anymore, people, including bands, change. Just take them for what they are now, it’s obviously working well for them. If you keep seeing them as who you want them to be rather than what they are now, you’re never gonna enjoy anything. In other words, it’s not 1986 anymore and never will be.
These are a bunch of rich old dudes who are approaching 60. They can't recreate the magic of their old material that they wrote when they were hungry 20-somethings with something to prove. They've already proven everything they need to. At this point, all I want is for the new music to still be good, and I got my wish on this album.
@@megaman7799 yes, Metallica has proven everything already. They could retire if they wanted to but they still work hard to create new music for us so let’s just appreciate them while they’re still here.
But can you really say any major band’s 10th, 11th, 12th albums are as good as their first 3-4? Especially when those first 3-4 albums were as iconic as Metallica’s? Expecting them to replicate those albums is an impossible ask, people need to stop. It’s like when people complain about every new Slipknot because it’s not Iowa vol.2. Another MOP is not happening, but it doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate these songs for what they are.
I respect your 72 seasons reviews but your just like everyone else . Trying so hard not to bop your head and always picking out everything to to not like lmao it’s cringe ❤
