My favorite songs of all time have taken several listens before they grabbed me...the ones I tend to like right away I get bored of quickly. This album gets better with every listen
not gonna lie i hated it on first listen i mustve been in a bad mood or something but now i have 8/12 songs in my playlist. it really grows for some reason

I agree. I was not impressed with this new album upon first listen. I thought it was meh. The more I listen to it though, the more I liked it. Its definitely a grower and now I can't stop listening to it. Every track is a banger especially the last track.
0:46 - 1:09 is a hell of a riff. I wouldn’t guessed this as Metallica.

I love the dissonance in the pre-chorus and then the energy of the chorus itself. The “LEAN ON ME” is powerful. This is a great tune!
This one grew on me the most. That chorus riff is fucking great!
The hidden gem of the album.
The chorus of this this song reminds me to the 80’s Metallica, nice riff, nice high vocals from James, great song.
About the pattern you noticed, many songs on Death Magnetic would go through verse/chorus/verse/chorus, then go off in a different direction after the second chorus, introducing several new riffs for a lengthy middle section. Then eventually it'd wrap back around to the final verse/chorus. That structure is used in many of their songs, but I noticed it constantly in Death Magentic. Lol
This one has grown on me the most. At first I felt the main riff just felt too long(?) but like you said in your Shadows Follow playthrough, it's really fun to play, which in turn made me enjoy the song a hell of a lot more. Crown of Barbed Wire still takes it for me though!
This is a album you should listen to several times, as it will grow on you. I like it much better now, then at first listens,
I tryed to rate the songs from the album, even its hard, my mood of the day could make a slightly diffrent list, but i think it looks decent, i listened to all songs at least 20 times each.

I do think a balad would have suited this album, but its not making the album weak that it isnt there, you kind of get to accept the sound of the songs, , and epreciate them as they are, after some listens..

Favorite song on the album!!! The riffs on this album are awesome and James's vocals are the best of his entire career imo, this album has a great mixture of old school Metallica and modern Metallica imo. I'm in love with this album, I personally would rate it a 9.5 out of 10, I know many people are probably rolling their eyes when I say that, but that's my honest opinion and I'm sticking to it! Freaking love this album back to front!! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
A riff that hasn't been there before... that is the bridge
After a couple listens I’ve grown on this song and like it more. Has some fun riffs. Definitely like others over it though.
Also James’s vocals this album are some of his best he’s had. Dude sounds great

Isn't that the purpose of a bridge tho? Its supposed to introduce something we haven't heard yet. I'll agree those riffs have been underutilised in some circumstances such as the pre solo riff in darkness, but in a song like shadows follow where they introduce that new 'heavy riff' halfway through, it gets used throughout the rest of the song and sets the tone for the second half. I don't think the problem is introducing new riffs later in the song I think it's a problem when we hear that riff once and never again.
Vocals sound great great riff...great tempo changes.

Most of the songs work compositionally, though they could use a bit of editing. Great riffs. Great hooks. I dig it.
I really don’t understand why so many Metallica fans always 1. Compare these song to other Metallica songs and 2. Pick things that they don’t like about the new songs, even though it is done in other past Metallica songs that they like
I have come to the conclusion the biggest haters of Metallica are Metallica fans themselves. All the hate against 72 Seasons...yup Metallica fans.

I'm here thinking what if there were those who listened to 72 Seasons upon first listen didn't like it claimed it sucked and then after a few more listens now love it??? 72 Season strikes me as having that effect...I will tell you at first I really wasn't feeling it but after being compelled to give the album a couple more spins, now I love it.

Main riff sounds like lords of summer
The riff at 0:46 reminds me of Through the never. Btw it's a good song for me, I give it a 7.5/10 almost 8/10
I don't know how long Room of Mirrors is. Could be 6 minutes. I don't think they pulled the "riff from nowhere" move during the solo.

Interesting that James doesn't like the lyrics of "Crown", because that and Room of Mirrors are the only two songs on 72 that I just can't get into and actually SKIP almost every time they come one. :(

Only thing I don't like about this song is the breakdown into the solo and the solo itself are a bit weak but the rest is great
Im really trying to like this album.... just aint there yet. Sometines the great ones take several spins, but right now im rather disappointed. Hard wired and death magnetic were much easier to enjoy imo.
