Tbh, between the wasted space layout, rat tunnels, terminal placement, generator jam in, random fuse placement, pointless elevator, and more, it's a FRANKEN SHIP creation.
It's like it's been randomely stitched together

    • @RoyHobbs-f4v

... those "rat-tunnels" need to become primary server-space. This ship, among a million-other glaring necessities, needs to be able to enter a unique "flight-mode" which can actively or passively mask the servers glaring EM-signature; that crawl-space is a justifiable design-feature for such a game-mechanic.

It was stitched together from random sci-fi tropes. Overall, it's supposed to remind you of the millennium falcon. Notice the dish that pops up when comms is activated in that side room. This ship is right on the edge of the legacy ships, before they really knew what direction they were going.

@@Kiyomoto657 But like, really badly. You know what screams "roleplaying opportunities"? The Corsair. It has so much character inside and out that I can literally imagine some sort of off-brand Star Wars scene play out inside of it.

    • @Power5

It is not supposed to fight. It is supposed to run. That IS the point of the ship. Of course, it is not very fast or agile anymore. I miss the days back on delamar zooming around in my MSR when it was launched. It got melted after they made it slow. It definitely needs to be at least 225 SCM. I would say 230 to put it ahead of most light fighters but slower than interceptors. But hey, then again their ship classification makes zero sense as to what speeds they get. You have the Herald which is an engine with cockpit attached and the 100 and 300 series are faster in SCM than it. Not only that, they are faster than the Herald at Nav speed too. I know DRAKE uses cheap parts but you are telling me those massive engines are putting out less thrust than the mail slot on the back of the Origin 100 and 300 series?

The way CIG balances things is mind-boggling. The C1 Spirit, the MSR's younger brother, has twice the hull HP as the MSR. It also has twice the pilot DPS. I melted my MSR a long time ago because I realized CIG had no intention of making data running/scanning for this ship a priority. Until they do that, the MSR is dead to me. It's just a bloated, under-gunned, low HP cargo ship with only one egress point.

    • @snorrimcguffin2282
      @snorrimcguffin2282 Месяц назад +1

Does the hull HP of the Spirit spread to fewer areas? If so, I could see a reason for the HP difference. Also at least the Spirit has a variant that is combat oriented, hence the basic pilot DPS. If you try to go to a battle in an MSR, you're playing the game entirely wrong. Not every ship is a combat ship.
MSR needs another bump in speed and then it's golden, if you ask me.

This is the only ship in the whole game that comes complete with its own sewer level. No game can do without a sewer level.
Jokes aside, I want to like the ship but I find it a bit too bulky and globular. Also, while it is supposed to be asymmetric, I feel that's more for the Solo vibes than anything else. To me, looking down at it from the top, I see the symmetry easily. Just a matter of some cowling removed.
I love the C1 and one of the downsides of that ship is the limited cargo grid. But I think the Zeus CL will solve that better than the MSR. Also if you look at the amount of engines, the overall weight and the aerodynamics, the C1 should be faster than the MSR.
Also, I wouldn't put it beyond CIG to put one single fire extinguisher right beside the one single entry/exit right on the opposite side of the cockpit.
I think having a terminal near the components is good. I think it's bad if it's the only terminal able to perform some functions. The underneath floor should just be gone.

So that it can also avoid dangers and escape at speed. That needs fuel. I hope the developers keep that in mind. Otherwise its role would have already been missed.

Oh yeah, a lot of strange design decisions in the MSR, including the server farm located on the main thoroughfare, and the half-elevator that I always ignored, as it was faster to use the ladder.
CCU’ed to an MSR for the 2022 BIS paint, but got tired of the glitch that ejected you into space every time you press ‘Y’ while in the pilot seat - changed up to a Retaliator Bomber, which I still fly daily.
It is another frustrating ‘forgotten by CIG’ ship. I bought into the ‘fastest cargo ship’ for shipping my refined quantanium, but its shields and guns were always lacking, and I preferred the Connie Taurus (which also has a ‘scannerproof’ cargo area), which let me deliver my mining minerals then go bust VHRT/ERT bounties.

So to me she is in a legacy holding pattern until they get around to the rework that is promised but I'm sure is years away. Adding a ladder entrance in the forward tunnel, removing the under deck tunnels to slim the ship back to it's original artwork and remove that stupid elevator in the cargo area , Making the turrets lower closer to the hull when not in use, and using the "dead spaces" for 3 or 4 modular locations for the ships owner to "hide" there own smuggling bay and thus make boarders have to search for it... I've sometimes thought that both the engineering room aft (off the cargo hold), and the scanning room; should have a bunk and shoilet in them as dedicated accommodation for the engineer and avionics operator. That way the three bunks in the main crew quarters can be for the gunners and co-pilot. But where to put the captain's bunk? What about in the crawl space floor with an access from the corridor that accesses the bridge?

The panels and fuses aren't in the wrong place, they are exactly where CIG wants them.
CIG has a goal of forcing multi-player.
Expect this kind of layout in every ship, with repair points as far from the pilot seat as possible.

  • @RobinHartJones
    @RobinHartJones Месяц назад

If you sit in the scanning chair, I think you will see that it has access to the power MFD. A little odd but they appear to be giving all crew members access to power balancing in all stations, even gunners (I did not look at the MSR gunner positions) I wonder if the screen in the bedroom also lets you change the power settings.
I bought the MSR as a way to *avoid* combat by just running at the first sign of trouble. The reduction in speed was a blow to that plan but the bigger shields will certainly help by keeping me intact while I get ready to go into QT. Being a quad shield, I am guessing I can move all my shield power to the rear shield as well. As for the multiple relay stations, I am hoping that one of them isolates the servers as currently it is impossible to make a 'Stealth' MSR because the servers produce a huge EM signature even though we are not using them. Even in the future when we get data running, there will be times when we are not carrying data and would like to be stealthy.

I remember when this was one of the most polished ships they released, and it took almost a month for people to start realizing "There are so many things wrong with the internals of this thing". The ductwork layout is such a waste of space that, especially after it got chonkier, so much of that layout could have been used for other things. Or, if they wanted to make that engineering, turn that side area into more cargo space. Plus the scanner room could be converted into any variety of things and put and entrance and scanner seat up in the front.

While i appreciate the rebalance pass, with the imminent arrival of engineering gameplay i think the old girl is headed for the used ship lot in favor of the cargo variant of the Zeus. I hope they one day give it that interor rework that other folks here in the comments are asking for, but failing that i think that sadly my journey with the MSR has run its course.

I wish they would give it a serious rework. Fast for its size but handles sluggish. When it was advertised nimbly zipping through a cave. I always noticed mine felt like it was bolted to the ground trying to lift off. The underfloor tunnel could go and make it a little thinner height wise. A little more firepower for the pilot. Another entrance. Make the doors able to be locked in the open position like they were when it was released.
Melted it a long time ago but would like to have it again if it was just nicer to live with since mine siting in buyback comes with a sweet metallic red paint and I think LTI.
Then again I'm downsizing my whole fleet to things that are more solo oriented. Life is too busy to be able to coordinate a crew. I never even know until a moments notice when I can play, and even then it is usually one cargo run and then I'm logged back off.

The MSR is a love/hate ship. You either love to hate it, or you hate that you love it. I fall into the latter category and it's one of my daily drivers. It desperately needs a complete rework, though. Servers should move into the tunnels, which need to be less maze-like. Or they need to just go. It needs a second entrance. It needs to be even faster and more agile or it needs its weapons addressed. It's pretty, though. And it flies fairly well and has a decent cargo grid.

I bought one right at concept, survived it's design changes (bring back the huge midline engine CIG)! And still fly it to this day.
I have faith that it's eventual multi-gameplay loop of Snall Cargo and Data will be realised.... The fact they 'stuck' the better sgield Gen thete 100% reinforces tge idea that the ship will get a redesign one day .
List of things I'd like to see:
    - Alternate access to ship near front.
    - The Tunnels to just go away, making the profile slimmer (the 'shielded cargo' space and engineering being incorporated into a new, lower, but wider Cargo area to maintain overall SCU.
    - The Servers and Scanner Room Combined into a single room.
    - The Core of the ship gaining functionality of the Engineering.
    - The Return of the huge central core thruster from tge Original Concept.

Get rid of the tunnels, increase cargo space, increase the height of the cargo door, remove that god-awful lift in the cargo bay and just give us stairs, add a personnel lift that goes straight into the cockpit, move the hacker chair to the back of the ship, and move engineering to the hacker room

Very conFUSEd as to why they added the fuses in the jefferies tubes. Unless they are completely redundant backups, which would be welcome. Else it just adds frustration. I was disappointed that they didn't carry over the service area to the Hercules, and build it into the Crusader design language. So now, it just sticks out on the MSR. Which, as a novelty for roleplay, it was fine, but if they are going to make have to use the space. Then it becomes frustrating.
They need to pick which way they want to go with it. IS it a 'secret' and used to hiding cargo and sneaking around the ship. Or is it functional spaces that is required used by engineering and potentially have to fight fires down in there.

It's the inconsistent design language that bothers me. They talk a big game about each manufacturer having their own identity, but they dropped the ball here. At this point, I think the MSR should just get a rework. So much wasted space in the scanning room, and elevator that no one uses, no 2nd exit. It's a very cool ship, but I think they tried to do too much with it.

It does look a bit unloved by CIG at the moment - None of those engineering placements look well thought out. It should be playing on the small crew data theft/smuggler style, including better stealth, speed and maneuveurability. I'd like the same exit ladder as the zeus has behind the front landing gear for quiet pilot egress. Gun lockers, pop up or out doors in the rat tunnels and more storage that can't be easily scanned (and slightly easier access so you can get boxes in there?) A bike storage for something like the X1 or Pulse might fit the feel of a ship meant for data theft and delivery. Should be easy to get that all in for alpha v4.1 right?

Ship is in a terrible spot right now, however I have full faith in the future it will be awesome. The main thing this ship needs is the option ‘not to fight’ and actually be good at getting away. I think that ‘option’ will be incredibly powerful in the future.
Bundled into a medium- large sized ship.
Where a constellation has great firepower it wont have the option to get away in most situations where the MSR can peace out whilst not having the forward facing dps.
It needs a full rework though. It should definitely outgun a cutlass and the turrets need to be scary to small fighters that can keep up with it.
