On the back of that page or the second page whatever lol I had all the legendary birds holographic it was all crazy I coulda sold that book for quite a bit if it wasn’t gone. But yeah I played the game like once, but one day I came over to that same friends house because we were all there like everyday and my two buddies were playing a game with cards I never seen or heard of. This is one of my favourite kurtis videos. Its comforting for some reason. I dont think it would be as comforting if he found his old collection and it was worth a million or something. Idk it feels real
when i was nine going on ten, my older brother was moving out and left me his entire collection of pokemon cards. he was a super avid collector and had the original first packs from japan in mint condition as well as hundreds and hundreds of super rare US pokemon cards all in perfect condition- wrapped individually in plastic and placed into binders that were all organized by rarity. What did I do with these cards? I immediately took them all out of their protection cases + binders.... and taped them all.... to my door... I wanted to impress my two entire friends I guess??? so when they'd come over they'd see pokemon cards covering both sides of my door?? even tho one of these friends didnt even like pokemon??? after filling up my door, i still had so many binders of cards that i'd end up hanging them all over my room. I moved them around and re-taped them on the door so many times that they began to fall apart. due to this, my dad would then go on to throw them all out. i basically destroyed my family's future fortune in one day. i cannot tell u how many mint condition cards he had that are considered super rare and valuable. he had hundreds and kept them perfectly and i turned them into a pile of trash sent off to a landfill. don't give ur valuables to nine year olds
our teachers told us we weren't allowed to trade pokemon cards in elementary school so we would go into these bushes and walk a few steps off the campus to trade them. We had a president, vice president, and treasurer of the club. we would all take votes to see who would get which position.
that's already way better than the student body in our school i never once understood what the presidents and vice presidents did in our school, no public hearings, idek if the school gave them anything to do or if they were just figureheads (i mean it would make sense, our school pres was literally a gay guy, what better to scream "hey look at me, im so progressive" without actually making any changes than that)
My after school program banned pokemon cards for no reason so pretty much everyone pretend we were illegally gambling. I think the reason was because people kept on stealing the cards
I remember the day that my little brother came home in TEARS because our elementary school had banned Pokémon cards. There had apparently been a physical fight over a Charizard and the principal had decided that it had gone too far. It was a dark day.
it’s the reason you never bring an entire binder of Pokemon cards to school, you only bring one of those little pocket binders you can keep on you at all times
kurtis talking about that one digimon episode is literally me talking about that episode of spongebob where gary runs away from home and spongebob is trying to find him and there’s that scene where he’s just sitting on his bed crying while looking at a photo album of them both :(
I was way more of a Digimon kid to. The storyline is so much better, the connections the kids have with their friends and Digimon is wholesome. They tackled so many mature topics to in a kid way.
do i know anything about pokemon? no. will i still watch and enjoy this whole video? yes. Kurtis’s deep dive videos are always so amazing and well thought out!!
I was just thinking about this. I don't know anything about Pokemon, nor have I ever been interested in it, but Kurtis's video was very entertaining, and not once did I feel excluded from the fun. He's very inclusive.
The comment about collecting is so true. I collect ceramic/porcelain dogs and it's always fun going out to an antique store or vintage market to look around and see what I can find.
Hey Kurtis, hope you’re not feeling down by the “numbers”, we all see how much time and effort you put into your videos these last few months (in particular) so feel proud of that
@I Don’t Know Kurtis posted on his ig story that the view count for this video was down quite a bit compared to his other videos, Tess is just looking out for him no need to be rude
Kurtis, don't feel bad for your 5 year old self who did not buy the cards.. I grew up so religious that my parents told me pokemon are from the devil so I got hundreds of cards from a friend and burned them all.. and I believed I did a good deed. Yeah.
I loved what you had to say about collecting things. I collect vintage Disney and looney toons watches and the joy I feel at having a physical collection that I can see and touch and that I can actively wear can't be beat
literally its so nice to see how happy and excited Kurtis got during the digimon portion of the video. I hope he does more stuff that makes him that happy
yessssss i love watching other people get excited over things like this, especially when it’s something i’m into. i’m not all that into pokémon cards, i never was but i always thought they looked really cool, still never considered buying them though. but after i watched Ludwig and his friends open all of those pokémon boxes for that one week last year, i had felt so much joy watching them be happy over these awesome cards that i wanted to buy some cards myself. idk what it is but man, watching other people get excited over things they’re really passionate about makes me unbelievably happy.
I think it's genuinely so cool how excited you were about the Digimon cards compared to the Pokemon cards. Obviously both are rad!!! But I think the fact that you had a change of heart and decided to go after something you really love was so cool to watch!
"When was the last time you were so excited that you were fucking shaking?" Thank you so much Kurtis. This is now on my bucket list. I want something so good to happen in my life, that I start shaking. I want that level of happiness and contentment.
i collect anime figures and just anime merch in general. i have a few grails i really want but haven't been able to get. when i finally get them, ill experience that joy :'3 i cannot wait!
In perfect condition with tag attached, on average a Beanie Baby sells for $5 USD today 2021. The list price is not the sell price. People can list something very high but that doesn't mean it sells for that much on average. Ik I got very sad about this when I was going to sell my Beanie Babies.
so no one is gonna mention that the beanie babies he dug through for the cards are genuinely expensive now and he could sell those for hundreds of dollars
I sold my entire collection (probably around 300 or so cards, lots of rare ones) at a yard sale for 25 bucks. Plus they were all in a binder protected. Whoever bought it… congrats on your mansion
My brothers and I still have our cards binders, but my older brother had a binder filled with his first and rarest cards that got lost. Possibly a million bucks lost to the ether 😔
I didn't have any 1st edition cards but was very thankful I even got cards as a kid and still remember the Christmas my mom bought me official branded binders for my cards. I still have them as she understood what they meant to me and she's no longer here now so even if the cards somehow became worth 1mil+ I don't feel I could sell them.
@@ThexDynastxQueen don’t worry all of this kids are over exaggerating. Cards that are some are even 1$ to 2$ plus say you got a charzaird from base set. And you list it on eBay you gotta find someone crazy enough to want it
I'm in a similar boat. Probably less cards, not as many in good condition, and not as many rare ones. So they aren't enjoying a mansion, maybe a used Prius. Congrats.
Watching youtube for really the first time since having a kiddo. Turned it on while trying to get him to bed, he just turned 6 months and was FIGHTING me on going to sleep, so I gave in and got up with him. He is absolutely LOVING you. Yelling at the TV laughing, and talking to you ☠️🩵
I love Pokémon and have collected a decent amount through my life. Sadly I don’t have older cards, mainly because I wasn’t born then, but It’d be awesome to find old cards in garage/yard sales
I'm trumatized now. I never got the cards because I didn't understand how the game worked and I was very left out. But to know now that almost no one else did either!!!! Now I wish I could go back to 8 years old and ask all of the "cool kids" how to play and expose their lying asses
Same! Lol I was mostly just addicted to he rush of opening the packs. I was buying them around year 2000 or so. I had a binder of all the best ones sitting in the closet of my room at my mom’s house for probably 15 years after I stopped collecting. I think 5 or 6 years ago I got rid of them somehow. Either have them to a thrift store or straight into the trash idk lol I also never bought bitcoin. Or Dogecoin 😭
my grandma has one of the first 9 beanie babies. it's name is pinchers. i don't know how much it's worth or anything because it's not printed as "punchers" - an error that makes other beanie baby lobsters expensive
i just realized me collecting photocards fills that joy pokemon cards do for others cos i should not be that excited pulling out a kpop singer and yet here we are
When Kurtis started talking about being so excited you start shaking, it sparked a fun little trip down memory lane. I shiny hunt quite a lot in my spare time, and while I know it isn't physical, like cards, I still got super stoked when I found my first soft reset shiny, a beautiful Charmander in Leaf Green, and I shook so damn hard. Best feeling ever to see that little yellow lizard with the star and bright blue border. I've been shamed out of getting too excited when I find shinies nowadays, but I'll never forget finding that Charmander, man.
7:58 My mom and I love pokeon puzzle league and have been playing it almost every day for several years. We make jokes and references about it all the time, mostly Misty's "good battle!!" I have never been catered to in such a specific way for a joke before
Angelmon and angelwoman are two of the many reasons I grew up thinking everyone was bisexual because I thought it was normal to find both equally attractive lol
Yo angelmon was my gay awakening. I use to imagine him picking me up to put on his shoulder and I would get so confused cause it made me feel weird lollllllllllll

I would absolutely watch a series of you opening all the packages you bought, please make videos doing that. I didn't even watch digimon but it was soooo thrilling seeing you excited and finding cool cards
I work at target and it’s beyond terrifying how many people line up on Thursday mornings trying to buy cards, to the point where our “safety became a concern”
I used to work at a homegoods store, women would literally line up and throw hands for mass produced rae dunn pottery. I'm pretty sure there's videos all over tiktok and youtube about it, it's like a cult lol. Shoutout to retail employees.
first we have "so, surface leather- *HUH?* surface level-" now we have "but since im such a fan of, like, physibal- *HUH?* since im such a fan of physical-" the saga continues, what will it be next?
I have to turn my brain off to this stuff because it physically hurts me. When I was a kid my family collected the cards and had complete sets of all the original 1st edition and shadowless cards, multiple languages, etc. Sold em all in 2011 to pay for my college. Today, my degree gets me nowhere and I realize I literally could’ve been a millionaire if I held onto them…….
I've watched and enjoyed MANY of your videos by now. I was not subbed-until today. When you said "Digimon was better than Pokemon," you immediately had another fan. Edit: Holy macaroni, this video went from fun to so much nostalgia real quick
For some reason I hope that beanie babies are not worth money one day because I loved them all and played with them so much as a kid (doing what they were intended for) that I don't have any in decent condition and would be depressed knowing if I hadn't enjoyed them in my childhood and just kept them in a plastic box I could make money off of them today.
I sold my MTG collection back in like 2008 for $7k (could have probably gotten a lot more if I took my time with it), and while I did need the money at the time, I really regret it. I'd love to go through them all again and again or even keep playing them. I can see why people like me, if they have a ton of cash laying around, might spend a good amount of it to recreate that kind of collection.
Kurtis making a whole Pokemon video just to realize that's not where his heart is at is like top Disney straight to TV movie plotline and I am living for it
I remember home-room in 4th grade when the kids who traded cards would all wait until the teacher stepped out of the room for something, and instantly maybe 6 or 7 extra large 3-ring binders would come flying out of backpacks and slam onto desks, everyone else pulling out what they had to trade from their pockets or card cases. They were so efficient at not getting caught that the teacher could have stepped right outside, and they had 3 or 4 kids in the room that acted as the lookouts at all times, and everyone else would ninja their way across the room to nab trades really quickly. Like, _almost the entire class._ And then one day our teacher caught us, and instead of busting us she revealed she was a fan too and brought us over to her desk to show us the Eevee card she had taped on her monitor, since it was her favorite one because of the many evolutions. Mrs. Peters, one of the kindest and most gentle teachers I ever had in my entire scholastic career. If I could have just had her as my teacher for the rest of my life, I probably would have done a whole lot better and had a few honors degrees by now.
Reminds me of my 3rd Grade Teacher, she had a HUGE collection of cards in boxes and she'd let us trade and play Pokemon during recess. I remember having this rivalry with this one boy over who got to trade with her first and it was a blast. I think she gave both of us a little blind bag with Pokemon cards at the end of the year when we were going on to 4th. She was a great teacher and actually helped me figure out that I was nearsighted so I could get my glasses, so thanks Mrs. Jones, wherever you are.
I work part time for a lady that sells a lot of things on EBay - everything from collectibles to antiques! When I’m pricing things, she always tells me to turn the “sold” filter on. That way you can see how much it actually sells for and not what some butt hole is wanting for the item!
Yeah! When he was looking at the prices on eBay I was thinking about how anyone can list something for any price they want on there- whether someone is actually willing to pay that price is the kicker
My partner collects magic cards and I always thought it was a little silly, but I’ve never told him. I’m so glad I saw this video, because it gives me a newfound appreciation for his hobby. It makes him so happy and even if I don’t see the value in it, it brings value to his life and I’m glad he has something that brings him joy. Thanks Kurtis, another banger.
He’s an adult and you don’t think he can handle knowing you find it silly? I mean you don’t have to bully him but I def tell my boyfriends if they’re doing something I find stupid. I mean sure they can keep doing it, but no banter is odd to me. I feel like it’s weird to fake liking every aspect of ur partner.
I used to have a collection of thousands of Pokemon cards back when I was a kid. As an adult I tried searching everywhere I could, talked to both my mom and my dad and apparently, they just disappeared one day. My mom is convinced that my uncle probably took them and sold them. If that's the case, he probably sold 2000+ pokemon cards for $10 or so. To this day, I'll never forgive him.
This is why I still have mine. I'm Gen Z so the majority of mine are from the 2000s era. But hopefully in the future when I'm older they'll be worth a lot.
I have an entire binder except most of them are ruined because my room flooded and they got caught in that flood so I doubt they'd sell at all (I had over a thousand and the flood cut that to over half)
Fun story: when I was a kid, I wanted all the Pokémon cards in the world for Christmas. I wrote Santa an 8 page long letter. Woke up Christmas morning and there was a gigantic box, and I was like "Santa PULLED THROOUUUGGGHH." Opened the box! Kitchen set. A kitchen set... I've never felt disappointment like that in my life
@@jaiden494 don’t you mean sue Santa? Unless you’re implying this person is Santa’s kid, which cannot be true as we all know Santa canonically doesn’t fuck
That reminds me of the time my grandma wrapped my present in a hand mixer box and I opened it up and it was books and I was so disappointed, I didn’t even want nor need a hand mixer I was just excited for one
The year was 2010, me and some friends lived together and had to move suddenly so we had to put things into a storage unit. Gave said friends $80 toward the store unit for the next month. Next month they tell me the storage unit was auctioned off. My 2, TWO binders of mint pokemon cards were in there 💀 I will never not be bitter

when i was nine going on ten, my older brother was moving out and left me his entire collection of pokemon cards. he was a super avid collector and had the original first packs from japan in mint condition as well as hundreds and hundreds of super rare US pokemon cards all in perfect condition- wrapped individually in plastic and placed into binders that were all organized by rarity.
I moved them around and re-taped them on the door so many times that they began to fall apart. due to this, my dad would then go on to throw them all out.
i basically destroyed my family's future fortune in one day. i cannot tell u how many mint condition cards he had that are considered super rare and valuable. he had hundreds and kept them perfectly and i turned them into a pile of trash sent off to a landfill.
don't give ur valuables to nine year olds
i would DIE omfgm
this comment just killed me. call my family, they need to start making funeral arrangements.
You know how you’re mad at yourself for that? Yeah, I’m just as mad
I- this is so sad:") omg
As someone who kept many old pokemon cards of my own as I grew up, this comment hurt me deeply
our teachers told us we weren't allowed to trade pokemon cards in elementary school so we would go into these bushes and walk a few steps off the campus to trade them. We had a president, vice president, and treasurer of the club. we would all take votes to see who would get which position.
and so true democracy was found in the anti-authoritarian
that's already way better than the student body in our school i never once understood what the presidents and vice presidents did in our school, no public hearings, idek if the school gave them anything to do or if they were just figureheads (i mean it would make sense, our school pres was literally a gay guy, what better to scream "hey look at me, im so progressive" without actually making any changes than that)
lol so cute u will never forget that
democracy wins again
one time at lunch in 5th grade our lunch lady was like "NO MORE POKEMAN CARDS IN SCHOOL" 😂we all joked about it with her up until we graduated
My school banned Pokémon cards because it was a form of “child gambling”
mine banned it because the battles were violent so we had to try to do it without getting noticed 😭
@@heejinscementbrownies1385 throwing cards on cards are violent, lmao
My after school program banned pokemon cards for no reason so pretty much everyone pretend we were illegally gambling. I think the reason was because people kept on stealing the cards
i mean it can be gambling if you try hard enough
Same...kids would trade and cry bc they found out later it was actually rare...
I remember the day that my little brother came home in TEARS because our elementary school had banned Pokémon cards. There had apparently been a physical fight over a Charizard and the principal had decided that it had gone too far. It was a dark day.
for my school some kid's entire binder got stolen and they got banned after that
it’s the reason you never bring an entire binder of Pokemon cards to school, you only bring one of those little pocket binders you can keep on you at all times
my elementary school banned them too cuz they wanted the kids to get physical activity instead of sitting trading cards LMAO
My primary school in aus also banned cards and card trading. It was a dark day :’(
mine had banned them for the entire week except for Fridays during second recess because 'kids weren't getting active enough during recess'

Like, _almost the entire class._
And then one day our teacher caught us, and instead of busting us she revealed she was a fan too and brought us over to her desk to show us the Eevee card she had taped on her monitor, since it was her favorite one because of the many evolutions. When you said that she was a fan too I was expecting her to have a bunch of binders full of Pokémon cards behind her desk
I had a binder full of first editions. I try not to think about it. Lol.
I have an entire binder except most of them are ruined because my room flooded and they got caught in that flood so I doubt they'd sell at all (I had over a thousand and the flood cut that to over half)
