What you missed about the line, “Queens niggas run you niggas. Ask Russell Simmons” is that Russell was the owner of Def Jam (the label that Jay-Z was signed to and that Rocafella was a subsidiary under). Russell Simmons is also from Queens. He’s Run’s brother from Run-DMC, the legendary rap group from Hollis, Queens. Jay is from Brooklyn but under someone from Queens. 😂 It was a flex the Burroughs in NYC often play on each other.

The intro is actually a sample of Tupac saying “fuck Jayz” on a diss track he made for NY rappers, around the time everyone was trying to be the king of NY. “I will not lose” was actually a play on Jay-z’s song as well as his go to line from his album. Nas took that and added his lines to it to basically counter what jayz was saying. Technically it couldve chose that technique because jayz sampled one of Nas’s lines from one of his songs and made it into a hook for(dead presidents). Then to push it, he told Nas on (takeover)”you made it a hot line, I made it a hot song.” So in Ether, Nas basically did the same to jayz. She should definitely listen to “Last real N*** alive” for a better perspective on everything.

Hey love the page and the title… I just wanted put you guys on to some important info on the topic. I myself am from queens nyc. Jay-Z did a song called “Hawaiian Sophie” back in the late 80’s with Jaz-O and the song and video were both horrible they were wearing Hawaiian shirts in the video that’s what the reference was referring to. Also not considered a on wax beef to be honest. It’s highly documented. Jay-Z wanted to work with nas really bad back In the 90’s they were never friends and nas kept brushing Jay off and just did not wanna have anything to do with him for whatever his reasons were. Jay-Z than retaliated by sleeping with his than girlfriend who’s name is Carmen and the mother of his now adult daughter. It was extremely personal. And they did not become cordial/ so called friends until years after all that. If you listen to jay-Z’s super ugly he has a line where he says “Me and the boy A.I. (Allen Iverson) got more in Carmen than just balling and rhyming” “get more in Carmen. She (Nas ex) (allegedly slept with NBA player Allen iverson back around the same time frame). Nas ex was sleeping with both of them. Jay z went out of his way to disrespect nas by having a affair with the mother of his child and go on to talk about and also add comments like leaving condoms on Nas daughters car seat. Listenin to jay z super ugly track and also the takeover. Ether was a response those tracks but jayz really was having sex with nas girl and that’s definitely personal.

Also that’s why he referred to jay as a “Stan” like Eminem’s song “Stan” as I’m sure you know was about an obsessed fan and that’s basically him saying that he considered jay to be a “Stan” because he was always asking him to do a song together. They also had and still have a lot mutual friends in the music industry Even though they hated each other

Decent recap, but theres a lot you missed. Takeover came first, then Ether, then Super Ugly. And after this Jay Z cried on live radio and apologized. Also when Jay was bangin Carmen it wasnt like Nas was with her. Nas was already a superstar on tour all over the US. Simultaneously bangin any girl he wanted. So the Carmen thing wasnt as much of a diss as Jay made it seem.

Yes, Nas is the greatest, of that there is no doubt. Nas buried JZ with ether, period. Jay z didnt subliminaly dissed nas. He directly dissed nas on the track takeover. He was flying high and wanted to cement his position as the greatest rapper and nas was not doing so great at that time. But as we all know, he came too close to the sun and got burned. Ether revived nas' career. It gave nas a lot of boost.

Nas never mentored Jay-Z his mentor was Jaz-O. Jay-Z only admired Nas and it all started when Nas never turned up to the studio to feature on dead presidents. Jay-Z felt disrespected then the subliminal bars started and Jay also slept with Nas baby mother Carmen.
Jaz-O had a song called Hawaiian Sophie which was Jay’s first feature and they were both wearing Hawaiian shirts in the video.
Jay-Z said on a song - and if I ain’t better than big then I’m the closest one. Can’t remember the song though.
When Nas says they called you ugly he’s referring to when Jay said they used to cal me ugly and wouldn’t touch me on song cry.
Good video but you should research some of the facts first.

Nah it first started when Jay sampled Nas and didn’t pay him and then Nas didn’t show up to record and then sent a sub in the message I mean u was pretty much there just forgot that one detail but it’s the main reason the beef started

@@NACentDSTM Nope Jay sampled his voice because Nas didn’t show up to the studio session for dead presidents so he sampled his voice instead. I seen loads of interviews about this. Nas was known for not showing up to sessions in his early career -OC was meant to have a track with Nas and he spoke about him not turning up. During the battle between both Nas said in an interview Jay wanted to do the songs with him but back then he didn’t really know him like that and wasn’t feeling it.

For dead prez Jay wanted nas but Nas didn’t want to he never said he would even show up to the studio because he didn’t want to in the first place so Jay sampled his voice and asked him to be in the video but Nas refused to be in the video as well and told him if he wanted to sample his voice he would have to pay him in which AZ and BIG was in the video but Nas refused

You may be right about the bring it on situation and maybe the reason why Nas didn’t want to jump on dead presidents. I just remember hearing Jay wanted Nas on the hook but he never showed up. I also heard Jay wanted Nas on empire state of mind but he declined.
