That's the truth. He made a million dollars off just selling 160,000 copies. I never seen anything like that in the genre. The exec always take a good percentage that you aren't left with much
I hope more guys hire Serch. His expertise and advice is invaluable!
I've always had a lot of respect for this dude and every time I listen to him talk about the business I respect him even more.
And that’s how you start an interview, cut to the chase! Respect ✔️
I can’t wait for this whole interview to drop!!
Loved 3rd Bass when they came out 😊

Facts
Pre-internet, when people used to read books, there was a series called "Everything you need to know about the music business" that would drop a new edition every few years. The "artist" has the shortest chapter. No cap.
All You Need to Know About the Music Business by Donald Passman.
The sad part is only 2-3% of upcoming or current artists will heed reading it...research it. The rest either could care less or too ignorant to gain the knowledge until after their career is done and the industry used and sucked them dry
Nas doesn't talk much . He just lets time tell...The truth will eventually reveal itself
Facts 💯👍🏾👊🏾
And that's the same way I am frfr 💯
Nas a real one
Word!
That was a bar.
I was always a fan of MC Serch, now it's respect for truly understanding the culture
So Nasty Nas has been a "business man" from day one. He's always been a very graceful individual, I'll be 44 December 5th and I still admire the way he carries himself, we ain't hear sun raise his voice until Hate Me Now & One Mic. He's always exhibited supreme self-control and he never played his self. He is my favorite emcee, lyricist, poet, writer and to me he is amongst the greatest writers of our time in all genres of the art form. #QB4LIFE
Man, everybody always thinks it's the face up front that's the "genius" when in reality it's the MC Serch's of the world that are actually making the moves happen.
Support his album he only sold 8k units
@Aaron9 444 sold 200k first week 😂😂😂
@@maxpremium8628 that’s cause of a bundle deal with Samsung phones. Secondly if u do your research Nas new album made him tie with jay for the same amount of number ones albums

His first interview was dope. Let's goooo 💨💨💨
Jigga tried to take advantage of what the fans didn't know or understand, and MANY believed his lying ass too. Now it turns out that Nasir was far from broke, stupid, and used all this time., bravo to Search.
I hope he told the Mc hammer story 😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣Niggas thought hammer was soft
As a kid I always liked MC search he stood out to me he wasn't just another dancing white rapper now I understand why he understood the culture the real culture salute to Math Hoffa forgiving the forgotten voices of our culture a platform 💪🏿💯
MC Search basically helped Nas keep getting the bag off Jay-Z
Big up to Search for being real by speaking on how it was & how it is. 👍🏾
Much respect to Faith Newman, Large Pro and Search for Nas success!!!!
Another "Classic" on deck. Serch and Pete Nice were top tier. "Wordz to Wisdom" was the beat! "Pop Gothe Weasel" was another banger for our time. The West had love for 3rd Bass. He giving game on how "real"moves are made. Keep Pushin Math & Crew (Mr.Bigga). Stick & Move✌
I loved a solo song he made called Daze of the Weak.
Big facts 💯
Yeah sad that Serch and Pete don't getalong anymore they were so great together.
I'm so glad MC Serch is on My Expert Opinion to talk about the Nas situation amongst other things. Very well said by MC Serch. Salute to Math Hoffa on this.
This is dope....Congrats Math on the success. The Numbers are thru the roof.
I don’t care what industry you’re in, you need someone like Serch to have your best interests in mind.
MC Serch is cold 🥶 can't wait to watch this whole interview
Oh shit.. Math just went down in HIP HOP PODCAST HISTORY!!! PERFECT TIMING, right after KD3 DROPPED!
Thank you Search for introducing Nas to the game. For all who don't know check out Live at the Barbeque. It's when Nas made his rap debut on a Search track. The rest is history. Much Respect to the Godson. Top 5 dead or alive.
MC Serch is a stand up guy!!!! Hands down!! I brotherly loved that dude since day one.! Nas is doing it big!!!!
I’m Instantly Hyped & Interested In This Interview… People Don’t Understand That Regardless Of Race, Serch Is A True Emcee & Historian Of Hip-Hop… This Is As Much His House As Anyone Else… Salute To Math! Keep ‘Em Coming… #EnergyUp☝🏾

Serch such a legend and been there for basically all of HipHop from 1980-1999 and beyond! So dope! Truly the Forrest Gump of Hip Hop in that scene where he’s there for so many big events in Hip Hop history.
I still listen to his work to this day. I introduced my children to 3rd Bass. Their story should be a movie!
Need this whole interview!
Finally the truth comes out! Peace to MC Search #Legend# 👑✊🏾💯
Kudos to you Math! I'm looking forward to this dropping in full!
I always love Mc search give interviews. His drink champs interview in classic and amazing. Watched it twice in full. Search needs a podcast and has to call it 3rd bass food for thought.
come on guys Nas said this back in 2001 1:37 on the Stillmatic Freestyle before Stillmatic dropped
"You show off, I count dough off when you sample my voice
I rule you-before, you used to rap like the Fu-Schnickens
Nas designed your blueprint, who you kidding?"
Search just shut the room down, hov fans in the room was shocked 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They went quite, all of a sudden Takeover don’t hit the same 😂😂😂😢
They looked hurt 😂😂😂😂😂
@Aaron9 facts 😂
Can’t wait to see the entire interview🔥🔥🔥
Facts math be teasing us lol but it's love hope it's out by Thanksgiving
The 1st half of the interview is on Spotify already 2 hours of it... its only sound though no video
Always had respect for Serch ever since 3rd Bass. I can tell he's a genuine dude. Can't wait to see the full show!🔥
You gonna wait for a minute.. Math gonna drop a lot of clips first
You might as well watch his Drink Champs interview. He had hella stories! One of the best IMO
I salute him for treating a artist as such. Respect!
Not a huge Nas fan but that’s one nigga who never rushed a move …he did shit on his terms and u gotta respect it
Serch has always been a real one. He had numerous opportunities to snake a young Nas, but his morality, honesty and love of the culture of hip hop kept him pure. Now he's laughing all the way to the bank and has Nas on speed dial.
He's never been a real one, stop it.
@@ChiChi-jg1ch Why?
@@ChiChi-jg1ch Nas would beg to differ. Not to here to argue. Just my opinion.
@@Chtigga He's taken the majority of Nas's publishing for his first two albums for almost 30 years. He's now back outside trying to do damage limitation because he knows that in a couple of years Nas is going to get the rights to his music and will likely do a documentary about what the culture vulture did to him as a teenager.
@@obsidyan2000 Nas keeps this clown far away and never mentions his early music because it feeds this untouchable.
Go listen to KD3, it's a great album.
When he said Nas owns 50% of Jays the room when silent for a minute 🤣
I agree but it was because they thought he was saying he owns 50% of Jay's over all publishing or for the whole Reasonable Doubt album. Artists have done deals like that for year's because if the song is going to become a mega hit they'll be able to perform it forever. Dead Presidents was an underground joint but when people like Puff in the early 2000's was sampling like crazy those artists being sampled where like go ahead your about to feed my Great Grandkids!!!🤴🏽✌
It's only dead presidents song that get 50%
Broke their little hearts.... but somehow in their mind, takeover was all facts smh wtf
Jay only own like a part of RD anyway. He was begging Dame for the rest. He mad Dame has more share than he does lol
@@Biggbobb As the kids say that's 🧢❗ Dame, Jay & Biggs split everything into 1/3rds. If you are a Jay hater then at least own up to it & speak facts NOT 💩!🤴🏽✌

Math: "What was that 2% worth?"
Now Math 😒... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You know Serch wasn't doing that shit!
Not much really. 2 percent of 100 million listens per year would be about $4000-$8000 dollars per year from spotify they are robbing boys.
Right. Serch still a Jew 😂

I've heard a few MC Search interviews .. this man has always been About the Culture ... gonna be another great interview 🙌
The legend Serch!!! Absolutely a legend and certainly served the culture the right way since 3rd Bass days. Respect.
You're doing great Math and team.
This is just the beginning of greater things to come.
WHOA! didn't know MC Search was behind the scenes in the music business like this and smart as hell about it. Goddamn!
I need to see this interview in its entirety ASAP!
I remember seeing Mc Search in the Latin Quarters. The only white boy in the club dancing and rapping. It blew my mind and me and my crew from Strong Island NY talked about it all the way back home that night. Later on found out he was from Far Rockaway Queens and he grew up around alot Blacks and Gangsters. Reminded me of a cool white boy from my old hood in Long Island we call him Hot Toast. Search is a Hip Hop icon and can't wait to hear the story about the beef with Mc Hammer after they dissed him in that Gas Face joint.
4Him 2 State He grew up in and around the 5% Nation of GODS and EARTHS And Learn The Culture speaks Alot 🎙️
I love a good search interview. The man will casually give you the ENTIRE game.
MC SERCH has been quiet and in the shadows for too long and underappreciated, I'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves as a Hip-Hop legend!
There's a reason for that. Do you think that the "Powers That Be" are OK with perceivably one of their own educating Black artists about the music business??
Nas lives rent free in Jay-Z head
Nas told you in the stillmatic freestyle: "I count dough off when you sampled my voice". But let's keep it real, y'all believed Jay not Nas with that line.
Until this day. People believe a lie before the Truth, especially if you make the lie sound good, real like 2 Pac and Faith.
@@brianjackson3031 Jay lied. Did you not watch the video? There wasn't even a "serchlight publishing" established at the time that takeover was made. You should actually watch the video maybe
@@grandmasterciphersupreme7751 there are many many people that were around Tupac when he was at death row that are adamant that Faith at least slept in the same bed with Pac on multiple occasions. Maybe they were just spooning...
@@brianjackson3031 watch the full video. He says it clearly. That was not the name of the company that Biggs paid. There was no serchlight publishing until years after takeover. Its not the first time Serch has said it either. Don't be butt hurt cos you favor Jay z. Jay lied. Simple. Get over it. Its not the first time a rapper lied.
@@brianjackson3031 you're confused. The lie is countering "I count dough when you sample my voice" with "I know who I paid, serchlight publishing". There was nothing call serchlight. Serch says it himself. No company with that name. And the counter is to try to make people believe that nas didn't count dough when Jay sampled his voice, like nas didn't get paid and like nas was lying. The people on the pocast are shocked that nas owns publishing on that song because Jay's lie worked. He paid the company that paid Nas so Nas got paid. So why did Jay bring it up as a Diss? Because he wanted to mislead the people to score a counter. Class is now over for the day. I will not be replying
Wow. You guys got Serch on here. I loved his appearance on Drink Champs and have been wanting more. This setting is perfect.
WOW Math dropping fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 back to back👑💎💎💎💎💎😁 this is going to get great Salute to MC Serch
Yo, Serch is a f'n legend. I met him at an after party of a Davenport, Iowa concert in '87. That man was a good man and prolly still is. He was the only artist there that night that chilled in the hallway of the hotel with fans. He was prolly jus keepin us kids from going in to the rooms because they were smoking an all. My cousin and her friend went in, but I was too young. Either way, he is the first rapper I ever met and talked to. He worked too hard to get a chance to do something that he loves to do. I'm sure he wouldn't mess it up by f'n over the culture that gave him an opportunity to express himself. Serch has shown nothing but love and respect to hip hop and the Black community. Us as Black people are too hard on the ones that are down for us. That's why so many people bail on us. Serch is an exceptional man to still be rockin wit us after all these years.
I been knew this. Search been saying it on interviews for years. Nas is such a boss, he moves in silence
