  • In this Irish fiddle tutorial, I'll teach you a lovely Irish jig, called Paddy Fahey's. I'll take you through the tune phrase by phrase so you can learn the notes, and then share my tips for bowing and ornamentation, including long rolls, cuts, slides, and chords.

The tune we will learn here was written by Paddy Fahey, the great fiddler and tune writer from East Galway. He is one of my favourite tunesmiths. He wrote dozens of great tunes - jigs, reels and hornpipes. He didn't name any of his tunes, so we just call them all "Paddy Fahey's", (though they have been numbered as part of Maria Holohan's thesis on Paddy's compositions). This one is known as Paddy Fahey's jig no.4.
You can also find the sheet music, with all my bowing an ornamentation suggestions, on my website: learntoplaythe...
This is a follow-up to part 1 on playing long rolls, one of the most important irish fiddle ornaments. In that video, I take you through the technique of playing rolls in Irish fiddle music, and suggest two different ways of learning to play them. If you haven't already watched that lesson on Irish fiddle ornamentation, and would like to learn to play really good rolls on the fiddle, you can watch that tutorial here:

Really enjoy your presentations! Well done and Thank You! You mentioned obtaining sheet music from your website. However, I am not seeing your website listed anywhere. It may be an oversight on my part. Would it be possible to list your website conspicuously on your page? Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Thank you W. Ed Harris for the reminder to add this. I have now put the link to my website, Learntoplaythefiddle.co.uk on my channel homepage, and a link to the specfic page for this tune - where you will find my transcription of this tune as sheet music - in the description of this video. Thanks for your comments - very much appreciated. 🙏
