How to Make Brown Gravy from Scratch
• (Part 2) How to Make B...
Thanks for watching! In this video I'm showing you how easy it is to make brown gravy.
✨First you want to make the roux and season it.
✨Add your broth/stock.
✨Then add the other ingredients.
💥Tips💥
The flavor of your gravy will be determined by the BROTH/STOCK. Use high quality ingredients for best results! Cook your roux long enough to get rid of the flour taste. It should also turn brown.
This wasn't stated in the video, but I recommend that you taste your broth/stock before using it! In the video I used a brand called "Simple Truth beef broth" (which was very weak). NOW I USE SWANSON BEEF BROTH WHICH IS THE BEST! So if your broth tastes weak, then you can add a little chicken or beef bouillon powder to kick up the flavor.
ALWAYS taste as you go and build the flavor of your gravy to your desired preference. Add a dash of salt LAST.
Please watch video demonstration.
🔥Recipe🔥
2 tbsp Unsalted Butter
2 tbsp All Purpose flour
1 Cup Beef or Chicken Stock/Broth
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Garlic powder *
Onion powder *
Black pepper *
Thyme *
Rosemary *
Basil *
Salt (dash)
*Season to taste
At time stamp 1:37 increase your heat.

My daughter asked me for mashed potatoes, I made it for her. but I didn't have gravy on hand, so I decided to reproduce your recipe, it was a success. Thank you so much.
I found this video while searching for ways to make roux for chicken and shrimp. Followed your instructions and it’s the best I’ve made ever. Thank you!! Definitely saving this one.
I'm at 1:17, as this far you've covered all of the bases and also taught me a thing or two! Wonderful video ❤️
Tried this recipe, had a lot going on with other dishes, and this recipe was very forgiving of my lack of attention and still turned out great. Not as dark, but still tasty
Thank you, came out great! I was only missing basil. The gravy taste amazing! This will be a go to for sure. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing it with us. I'm definitely going to give it a shot! The ingredients that you use are all so much better for everyone than all the junk that's in the pre-made packets in the store.

Just tried this gravy recipe and it came out perfect 😍. I also used your mustard fried chicken recipe tonight along with mashed potatoes to go with the gravy and baby. I’m using your meat loaf recipe next week. Your recipes are delicious
This is a nice basic base for what I will do which is this plus the drippings and some caramelized onions, herbs and maybe some cooked carrots and celery. Thanks for the recipe.
Thank you for this recipe 😊 what a game changer, I made it tonight using Kerrygold butter and some good beef broth with your suggested seasonings and it came out phenomenal 🙏

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, but I've been craving gravy & biscuits for breakfast. Thanks a lot for your straight-forward mentoring, which I somehow missed at my momma's knee.
I just made this recipe tonight I was cooking a roast so instead of beef broth I used the broth and juice from the roast (pork roast). So good thanks again💯🔥
Thank you so very much for sharing this recipe with us all!!! I made it with bacon grease and it was my first time ever making brown gravy and it was the bomb! Thank you for showing and talking us through it all the whole time!! You are so amazing darling!!

I used the Eyeball Method with great success! The procedure is simple and maybe even obvious to an experienced home cook, but this video was extremely helpful to me for making a quick and delicious gravy using ingredients that are typically in my pantry! Thank you for posting! Well done!
This video and part 2 are well presented and very helpful. Thanks so much for posting them!
You are making me so hungry just watching this. Believe it or not I’m 64 years old and have never made gravy because my husband and in-laws are from the Midwest. I never DARED to make gravy. 😂. Thanks for this video. Very helpful.
Despite having to make my roux twice, my gravy turned out excellent. I used the stock from my meat which added much more flavor. This video made the process so easy. Excellent
Yes. That stock is everything.
Thank you!! Making gravy always scared me for some reason. 😀 You make it look easy.

Thank you thank you thank you... I made some good ass gravy to go over my rice and chicken 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I needed a brown gravy. Looked at alot of different recipes. This one by far is The tastiest and easiest.
Thank you. ✌
Great recipe. I always add a little bouillon powder to make up for it being store bought broth and not drippings. Tastes great.
I add soy sauce and red wine and spices when the dark roux is almost done.
The soy sauce makes it darker and adds salt - use low sodium kind.
The red wine takes it to a whole other level.
That gravy looks so good and I'm hungry I think I can just get me some cornbread and and just eat that gravy by itself...
Sounds like a winning plan to me 💃🏾❤️😉
Thanks for the video ! I will be trying this out
thanks for your help.the Gravy turned out very well, homemade gray is the best, keep up the great work.

Good Afternoon,
I made this gravy for my dressing & it came out perfect! 😊 Thanks for the easy recipe.
I’ve messed up the gravy so many times lol 🤦🏽♀️. This helped tremendously and I like the way you did the video. Thank you.
I made the best gravy I'd ever done with this recipe, brought my whole roast dinner to a point of perfection. Thank you very much for a great tutorial without all the waffling chatter most on youtube have!

thank you for the authentic recipe girl, my stomach has never been more satisfied !
my question is what's your favourite thing to pair this gravy with??
deez nuts
@@pinkchu5142agreed😍
a slaytistic video agreed
@@pinkchu5142i like it with that too
i like u should try it with jelly and garlic bread
This is the best simple gravy recipe, thank you!
Never made gravy. Watched your video and loved it. Thank you.
The only problem I have with beef or chicken broth is that they make the gravy taste too salty. Water works pretty well in place of broth. [Note: I recently tried beef broth with 50% less sodium, and it came out all right.]
Sodium free broth is a thing
What my granny has always used to control the flavor less or more is bouillon cube and water. Sprinkle however much powder into your hot water or add your water and then add however much bouillon powder you want into the gravy
try beef or chicken stock instead
Make ur own beef stick no salt thats what i do pretty nice
Would the recipe, please!😋
I'm going to try your method because my gravy never comes out right
That was great, thank you so much. Definitely made it clear and I feel like I can make it now! Thank You For Taking This Time To Share!
Looks good. Always wondered how to make gravy without the drippings
Hello everyone! I appreciate the love on this video. I also did a video for Turkey Gravy which you might enjoy as well, please check it out. Thanks so much again for your support and God speed on mastering the art of making brown gravy!

Made this today and it tasted great! Using it in a cottage pie tonight 👍
Thank you for just doing what you came to do. When I looked for a recipe, you presented it. I saw what I need to do and now I can go and do it. In less than five minutes.
You are so welcome!
Can I use beef bouillon cubes instead of broth?
Yes, you can. Just make bouillon broth according to the package. Happy Thanksgiving!
Seems simple enough 👍🏻
I'm going to have to try this out for myself! Thank you for the upload, your the best!
I can't wait to try it! It looks easy to make and I have all the ingredients! Thank You!
I like a shot of red wine in mine and sauteed mushrooms.

I tried making the gravy sauce and it’s so delicious thank you!
Excellent thank you. You're so right about accidentally burning it and there's no turning back. You've got to stay in the kitchen and keep stirring and don't walk away. The second time I nailed it and it's perfect. Thanks again.
Thank you ... I didn't want to comment until i made a perfect pan of gravy and i did🎉 THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU❤

This looks great, can't wait to make gravy following your instructions. Thank you for making the video 🙂
First time making gravy. It turned out great. Very easy
I added way more butter and a touch of heavy cream to mine, but thanks for suggesting the Worcestershire sauce. That really pairs well with the beef broth.
I needed a quick gravy recipe for what I had on hand and your video popped up and it was amazing thank you.
Perfect video! I'll try this out tonight thank you for sharing :)
Thank you. Have this saved for future recipes that require gravy!
That looks a beautiful gravy. Thank you.
This is great! Perfect for when there are no pan drippings. Thanks for sharing!😊
Loved this video! I don’t have the option of actual drippings so this was helpful
This is an amazing recipe I've used it several times I love it mine never gets as brown as yours though❤👍

Thank you so much for this video! I never knew how to make my own, and now it's time I learned. ☺️❤️
TYSM for this I never knew how to make this and tomorrow I will have mashed potatoes and gravy for lunch. The first time I messed it up because I used wheat flour, so it was already brown and I couldn't tell. But the second time I counted the minutes and then it turned out right.
