She could mention groups that aren’t friends but she might get attacked in the comments so I don’t know if she would do that.

    I had a horrible experience when I went to Music Bank. I've done them all except Arirang and Show Champion, but Music Bank, my ass had to get there as a fan at 6AM. (That was the earliest I could get there because of the subway system from my place). Take our photo in front of the sign for the fan club to text to them. We waited ALL DAY to be brought into the pre-recording. It kept getting delayed. It got all the way down to the wire and they ran out of the time, so only the top tier fans got to go into the recording and the rest had to stay. And then I found out that Music Bank doesn't allow entry unless you have a ticket beforehand (compared to Inki and MuCore who give the rest of their tickets to fans outside). I was pissed. 1. No sleep. Waiting all day. 2. Did not to go into the show. So I called my Korean friend and asked him to give me the sappiest text message about how I flew all the way to Korea (not true) to go to Music Bank (lol) blah blah blah. I miraculously found the producer (shockingly) who was letting ticket holders in (because he had to get specific family in). I showed up him my phone with my sappy message and he felt it and he said, "It's actually a light day today, so we can squeeze you in." And guess what, I got in! It was a rough day though honestly lol, but it actually paid off. I never wanted to do it again though. My experiences at Inkigayo and Music Core were so much better. M! Countdown was alright (shrugs)

    • @DareDB
      @DareDB 5 лет назад +29

      @@eatmycookies1493 It's best to do the lottery for MuCore and Inkigayo and hope for the best. That's done online. Things have changed since I've done it but back then, it was best to go for a smaller artist. Buy their album and stand in the respective artists' line. The show gives tickets to like the Top 20% or whatever of that artist's line to get into the show.

    As a musician and RUclipsr who creates extremely candid/unedited videos, I can totally understand why musicians (and especially Kpop idols) use pre-recorded vocals since they're constantly dancing and panting. However, as someone who comes from a pop punk background, live music isn't always supposed to be perfect. Personally, I'd much rather seeing performers in their raw skin even though it's not "perfect" since it showcases their talent in that magical live moment. But yah thanks for giving us insights into this! I instinctively could hear the differences in the level of pre recorded vocals between members but I wasn't aware there was actual percentages.

      Exactly. I go to local pubs/showboxes/etc., and there's a big difference. The sad thing is that people that just watch music through a screen don't always know when to recognize if something is completely live. There are a few Korean music shows that do completely live vocals (SMA, KMA, etc.). Sad thing is, when people watch those performances, they say the idols "sound tired." No, wrong. They sound live. That's what actual live vocals sound like. And the fact that they sound so good with hard choreo is even more amazing.
      I find it funny that they diss the performances that are actually the most amazing.

    • @PhoenixDilemmaProductions
      @PhoenixDilemmaProductions 5 лет назад +12

      100% agree with you! I'll definitely have to check out those musicians you mentioned, but I feel the exact same as you. The "tired" comment always gets to me... Singing (not to mention in front of an audience) is so physically draining and there are so many factors which affect a musicians performance on the day

    • @EM-rm2xh
      @EM-rm2xh 5 лет назад +4

      @@PhoenixDilemmaProductions I think the one that comes to mind for my for BTS is their performance at the JBTV Radio Station in Chicago. This stage is a legendary stage. ALL the big names from Prince to Radiohead to Pink Floyd, etc. have played this stage. You can see that it's designed for rock bands (with the raised platform in the back). This radio station requires 100% live vocals. BTS not only had to sing 100% live, but they also had to adjust their choreo to fit a stage designed for rock bands.
      (They actually show them meeting in the hotel room during their tour and trying to fix the choreo in the hotel room to be in such a small space. You can also see them worrying about not being able to provide a good performance because the stage is so small.)
      Fire at JBTV: ruclips.net/video/QoEimQg8bno/видео.html
      Save Me at JBTV: ruclips.net/video/G44ocpzxYNE/видео.html
      I think the reason I like this performance so much is that you can see that they have worked their way to the top because they take on challenges instead of avoiding them and adapt. Coming from a small, bankrupt company, they often didn't have the best conditions and would have to take what they could get. For this reason, they made sure they were strong performers no matter the situation. I think this stage shows that (as well as a lot of the other US stages that use minimal camera work and nearly no support vocals).

    Really interesting info about the pre-recordings! I didn't know they fine-tuned it to that extent, for each individual member on a day by day basis. My opinion on it is that it's perfectly fine to do lip-syncing and pre-recordings if it's important for the singers. Screw "live singing" pride. For example, if singing that day will damage their throat or they're sick, I don't think it's good to power through it because it's really horrible for throat health, it's just not worth it long-term. I think a lot of people have a fundamental misunderstanding about how singing works, too--it's almost all about breathing! There's not some innate magical "singing gene" that makes people good at singing no matter the circumstances. So if you're doing an aerobic choreography that affects your breath (basically all K-pop choreo), it's unrealistic to expect human beings with normal human limits to perform challenging vocal runs, high notes, heck even regular notes, with the same smoothness they normally could. There are some people who can do it anyway, but they're rather outliers.
    Of course, if a group did 100% lip-syncing every single time, that would be weird. But I don't know any groups that do that.
    I knew music shows took a long time, but I can't believe Music Bank makes the performers wait all morning, all day, and all night just to do a performance--if Inkigayo can get people in and out within 5 hours, they should be able to get *somewhat* close to that, even if there's an difference in manpower or resources... that's gotta be costing every person in that building big bucks, to pay people to sit around on standby. Hard to take a nap when you're on call. :/ No wonder they often tape shows while idols are at music shows though, lol.
    I'm really curious about the cameras, and I would love to see another video talking about it.

    I would love a video about camera work, since sometimes you get the "this cameraman is drunk" feeling.
    Does the company have a say about it according to the concept (or what they imagined) or is totally up to the music show after the choreography rehearsals?
    If it is all already decided before, do the idols get like a "plan" to the camera positions or it's learned there?
    Also i know you already mentioned in a couple videos, but what is like to be in the waiting rooms? What are you allowed to do while waiting (if there are any restrictions)?

    This is SO interesting!!! Thank you so much for shedding light on music shows and pre-recorded vocals, I've always been so curious about this and the 30, 50, 70 thing is eye-opening! I love your Idol Insider series and hope you keep spilling trade secrets :P, especially on the "business" end of things. For example, could you share more about the process of a comeback from start to finish? Like how is the concept formed? Do the idols have any say in the concept or is that all up to the company? How are parts of the song distributed, how is the title track chosen, how long do you practice the choreography and singing for, what's the recording process like for the song, what's it like to film the MV, promotions leading up to the comeback, what do idols do after promotions end, etc.
    I definitely want to hear about ISAC and camera work as well...oh, could you also share more about music award shows (e.g. MAMA), and what those are like behind the scenes? Do groups know beforehand that they've won something? Are there shockers/upsets? Does news travel down the grapevine like, "yeah, that group didn't deserve that award" or something like that?
    Another video idea, could you share more about what variety shows are like as well? We get glimpses of the odd hours idols are filming or how long they're filming for, but it'd be amazing if you could shed some light there like how you did with how long it takes to film for music shows. And how "real" are idols and the hosts on variety shows?

    thank you for all your videos! i would like to request a video about idols’ relationship to fans. like what do idols think about just facing a screaming mass wherever they go, is it exciting or just annoying? what do idols appreciate most about their fans (actions, things they say etc)? in what situations are idols most comfortable with their fans, is it when fans are cheering for a performance, while being close & talking during a fansign, while doing a live stream or while reading comments written on your videos? are there certain things that idols like & dislike about their fans (once again, actions, things they say etc)? i also sometimes feel like idols constantly saying how much they love the fans might be a bit exaggerated, especially when it comes from an artist whose fans usually are quite annoying even to the artist themself. can idols really love their fans that much when they constantly get mobbed, their privacy is violated, fans are being possessive etc...? what do idols ACTUALLY think about their fans?

    YES I have questions, latching onto the exchanging numbers thing -
    Is it common for idols/artists to exchange numbers with each other?
    Can the company control who you go out to meet with (especially if it's another artist)?
    Are friendships encouraged or discouraged between companies?
    If you have friends outside the company, is it hard to get close, because there are certain things you can and can't say?
    Do the schedules make these kinds of friendships difficult to maintain, and how is that generally dealt with?
    If you're in an idol group, and you have just ordinary school friends, are you allowed to bring them to the dorm or do the managers need to be updated?
    Obviously, in big companies, there are lots of public close bonds between groups - are there many instances where certain groups or people do have close bonds, but they have to keep it quiet/no one pays attention to it?
    K whew sorry that was a bit of a word vomit. But your videos are super informative, especially when wanting to research what idol life is like personally - sources like your videos are so hard to come by that haven't been censored or measured etc. Thank you so much!

    RUclips suddenly recommended me this video and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have always had an interest on the process and behind the scenes actions of music shows and how idols perform. I think my favorite information was when you said you could hear everyone singing when you are putting on your mics and know who the main vocals were based on that lmao.
    Can you touch more on that process? Like are groups who aren't doing any activities during down time just waiting in their room until they get called up? or are they allowed to monitor other groups performances? Like if you were going to be performing ahead of another group you really liked, would you be able to actually watch the performance instead of viewing it from the room?
    Can you also do a video on the differences of performing in each music show. I imagine that it is a pretty similar structure in how they do things but I'm curious if there are distinct differences.
    Do you also know how MCs are picked for music shows and how long their contracted to be an MC? I've always been confused of them and why some have goodbye stages.
    Sorry, I have so many questions. This is one of a few videos I've watched and am new to the channel, I definitely subscribed bc the tea is real and I love knowing about the processes of these things. Please let me know if any of my questions or requests have been done already, I'd love to go check it out.

    The percentages you talked about during music shows makes a lot of sense. When I watch live performances on RUclips I could never really tell if the idols were lip syncing or not (even if people said they’re weren’t in the comments, I just couldn’t confidently believe in it) but when I went to my first concert it was obvious that they were actually singing. BUT when I watch the recording I took that day, even though I know that they were singing, I feel like I still can’t be certain. So I guess that’s because of the percentages...

    my problem with music bank is the time spent waiting for the broadcast station to get its shit together is time that could be scheduled for a variety show appearance or photoshoot or something to improve the artist's/company's income (radio and fansign events aren't that lucrative). i don't think i've ever heard anyone from KBS explain why music bank takes so damned long. it's inefficient to take all day for something other broadcast stations can do in a few hours. that's KBS just taking itself way too seriously, and it's not like the result is anything special. mubank's finished product isn't noticeably better than any other music show.

    I think this was a great video :) I always wondered this, because I love watching Super Junior live on music shows when they have videos for it on RUclips, and I always realized how it works, because most of the time they'd be singing the song, and also some of the time the performance is pre-recorded. When I do hear vocals, the main vocalists, like Yesung, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun will usually stand out a lot more than the others, with a little bit of the pre-recorded part. The others you can still hear, but it's not as noticeable. Like for Sorry, Sorry they'd singing live completely, but then something like Black Suit is mostly pre-recorded since the choreo is hella insane.

      @soobinie yesss pls let us know how much idols have a say in song writing and freedom in creation and royalties etc!! I know groups like bts, btob, day6 etc have freedom to song write whereas some groups just sing whatever they're given?? Why is that so?

    I’d like to know how it goes with White-Washing by idols (or like in general in asia)?
    - - -
    because i see alot of pre-debute vs debute photos and there skins are most of he time a totaly different colour and i hope u can also answer why it is so populair/ important to be a lighter skin color in asia?
    PS: I love your vids!!

      Basically it means you're rich because you're not a farmer who has to work everyday under the sun. And it's rare to be super white skinned, and rareness makes beauty standards

      idols whitewash themselves alone in their selfies. it's an asian thing. don't think much will change if they themselves do it to their own pictures.

    i have noticed the percentage of pre-recording before, no one has mentioned it before you did. for me, it's noticeable when they're singing because i would literally memorize how their vocals sound like in the cd version so anything else would definitely sound different to me.
