I used to watch the Girl Group challenges on Dream Team a lot. Was the filming extremely busy or did you have time to interact with other Idols? If so, were you able to find anyone that you are still friends with today?
I love this topic! Thanks so much for doing it. As much as I enjoy watching variety shows, I have wondered how much it’s scripted. Also, how much do idols prepare for variety show appearances? And I’m wondering what your opinion is on the differences between the shows that kpop artists appear on to promote and how artists are promoted in the west.
Who gets to choose which member will go in a variety show (if not all members will go)? Is it the company/entertainment of the group or the staff of the variety show? Also, can the members volunteer other members?

an idol insider suggestion: how groups are formed.
-i want to know if like, a company just decides to make a group and how they pick the members they want in it and how the persons find out if they are in the group or not
jang wonyoung i think it’s by doing trainee evaluation thing, and they decide who is the most talented or charming to put in the group. after that, they call out the trainees that are going to be in the group

Since kpop groups usually have more than one rapper, you need rappers that have different flows so one doesnt over shadow the other and so they would sound good TOGETHER.
Same thing with vocalists.
We don't want anyone overshadowing someone else.
Same can be said for chemistry between members to create less conflict and more skills.
This is just what I noticed throughout the years of kpop.

B Fany yes, shows typically have breaks between recording so that the guest and host can rest from the cameras. it’s most likely that idols have interacted with one another during breaks

most of the variety shows have a 10-hours of shooting/taping. so yes, they have a breaktime.

Laughs are sometimes real but they are very exaggerated more of the times to obviously fit the variety show feel
variety shows usually are based on a lot on exaggerated reactions. pretty sure its just the format or style they go with. usually certain rookie groups are praised for being good at variety bc they have “good reactions”. i think you could say its kinda like how tv series like the big bang theory or friends add an audio from an audience laughing everytime a joke is made as a way to accentuate it 🤔
i have a question :is there's a chance when you can be yourself on a variety show or everything has to be scripted??
It's partially scripted
Even if its not scripted, they are teach how to act and behave...so it'll never be themselves
I Feel like in some variety shows, it's completely scripted because the idols don't act like themselves, but on other shows, like knowing bros, I feel like the topics are scripted and the intros (obviously), but the idols can be themselves.

there have been 2 boy groups that disbanded due to members fighting. masc and lc9. i dont remember what happened in lc9 but i know one member of masc beat another with a broken umbrella and cut him. the other members of the groups were kinda victims too because they had to disband :(

Yo LC9?!? I thought it was because Their company was not promoting and kept them blocked.
Also 14U, 13 out the 14 members got their contract terminated because of discrimination and favoritism going on between them, Their company even thinks that they did it on purpose to cause the disband of the group because they were in conficts. They had an indonesian member so it's 100% sure he was the one being discriminated against.
Regarding MASC, Based on What 26 said, I Feel like Chibin kinda lied on certain facts/exaggerated the story, they both used violence against each other too. Although of course ACE is mainly responsable for starting to hit him, he doesn't seem sorry at all or regret to having fought with Chibin, it seems more like He's upset at his company to have added new members to the group and that ended up on them don't getting along well with each other

How about talking about body modifications in kpop (such as tattoos and piercings) and how idols having them have to hide them or how they are perceived from the public? Love youu💕
They hide their tattoos especially on TV cause SK society is still conservative, other than on TV, they don't hide it.
In terms of tattoos many people cover them with clothes, skin colored tapes, and makeup(foundation/bbcream). Check out jessi music bank stages and whatnot youll see what i mean by tapes
piercings aren't hidden or seen in a particularly bad way. I mean, almost all idols have piercings and people never comment on them, unless they look stupid or bad (like nose rings)

I’m pretty sure it’s not that frowned upon these days. I know Chaeyoung from Twice has a lot of tattoos and is usually open about them. Then there’s Jaebeom from GOT7 who literally has so many piercings
This may be a weird request, but I’ve always wondered if there was any in-group drama concerning like hairstyles and makeup styles: like if member A always got this one hairstyle (or changes multiple times) that is always flattering and suits her, and member B doesn’t get one that suits her... basically how is styling like behind the scenes?
Yes especially when it comes to hairstyles because sometimes stylist style their hair with type of braids that would be considered cultural appropriation and I wonder if the idols get a say whether they want a certain hairstyle or not

Hahhaha yeah, they are truly nice, but I think that mainly as the tax issue occurred, and then also he had his baby, even his face began to change as he gained some weight, and I am guessing thanks to his experience as a dad he learned how to act around kids, so he naturally changed form being a scary athlete that would throw you down (when he got serious before his face was really really scary, that's why he tends to always smile) to a kind dad that is really really cute. Idk, I've loved him as an MC since a long time ago, he really has always had a passion for idols that dance really well, especially popping, as far as I remember on his shows one specific idol whose dancing style he loved had to do popping at least 2 times ahahhahahahhaha
And Seo Janghoon has always been really really awkward but nice, and I think that's what makes him really funny, also he's extremely intelligent so that also plays a part. Although before KB I've only seen him in Yamang TV, and now on My Ugly Duckling lol he's funny

Ah, I remember them now. They literally got BTS to spill that they watch porn and who watches it the most... ON TV. The funniest thing ever. It definitely didn't look like they were pressured and the MC was super chill. I definitely liked the energy that the program had.

Both. They get an invite if they are popular and it could boost the ratings. An agency can also ask a show to squeeze in their group / members for exposure.

My favourite variety show is Master in The House. Firstly I watched this variety show because one of the members is Sungjae BTOB but now I watch because their concept (about find answer of question in our life) and their teamwork huhuh. Highly recommended!

I don't know specifically about variety shows with idols, but I do know that the music programs like Music Bank and such have horrible ratings and that most people just watch the stages of their favs on like youtube these days, so I would imagine variety shows that just feature different idol guests every week would face the same challenges.

Like, I remember watching the episode that Dream Team clip is from because I'm a massive Anda fan & Dream Team was the only show she used to get invited on, and I deliberately watched that episode of Yaman TV because I'd become a BLADY & a N.Flying fan not long before it aired ^^

I am actually curious about how promotions work, with all the Variety shows & performances. Do groups go on Variety shows before or after shows or are the shows scheduled on days you're not performing or do you go on Variety shows way before comebacks or debuts

they go on variety shows weeks or month before the song released. because in music shows they spend their whole day for just one show. morning - till the shows goes live - till it finished.
How do girl groups and boy groups make contact without dispatch/cameras catching them?
You can't. People constantly call out Dispatch for their questionable spying on other idols and releasing footage without their consent. The only way to avoid Dispatch is by bringing Dahyun with you

You mentioned the show that allowed you to get to know Korea. Obviously you enjoyed Jeju, since you did a Vlog about it, but I would enjoy seeing a travel video by you. What is you favorite city or cities and why? What is your favorite neighborhood? I like Seoul the best, especially the neighborhood called Ihwa mural village. The small city of Gimhae, north of the Busan-Gimhae airport is wonderful. My favorite areas of Busan are Nampo, down by the Jagalchi fish market, and the area around the 168 Stairs that overlooks Texas Street and Chinatown.

I've always wondered like, how much prep goes into going on a variety show as a group in terms of things like, agreeing beforehand what you were going to do? Like one member saying 'I'm gonna do x' and preparing certain things that would be entertaining, hopefully. Or if it's entirely natural and you just go with the flow and do whatever and hope it works. And how much of it is up to you as the group members, or if you are actually told by your managers - or the show PDs - to prepare particular things because you'll be asked to do something.
Do people actually get along with each other as they seem to?
Do they get envious of someone getting more screen time or lines?
Do they have a say in hairstyles?
Do stylists favour certain member?
Are all the idol actually that funny?(sometimes I think they are trying really hard or they just do stupid stuff to get screen time)
How a group is put in together like do they get marked or rated from trainers?
Do you have a say in the concept?
Can you alter the choreography if its too hard or you don't like a certain step?
To what extent do you get to choose what you wear? Like on variety show appearances?
There are so many idols out there and not all of them can be all kind and pure so do you have any stories like that?
I am not sure if Weekly Idol existed when your group debuted but if there was or it was there, do you think you would like to go on that show? Also what about Running Man?

I want to ask, do idols know about shipping? Not only bxb / gxg ships but bxg ships. If so, how much do they know, like do they know generally or do they know there are edits, fanfics, videos etc?
Not sure about other idols but everyone in IZ*ONE knows about their shipping names / OTP and all that shipping stuff 😂 To the point that one member revealed in a photobook interview that she got "confused" whether they're just friends or more than that 🤭 One member even make Highschool AU fics about the group. They're pretty much open about it and I think that's beautiful ♥️

Seoul has great shops and attractions
Seoul is really nice, so is Jeju Island! I don't know Korea that well, but those places are really really exiting to be at!
Probably Jeju Island, I hear a lot of students go over there for their school break
I was a exchanges student in the 2018 autumn, I lived in Seoul. I really recommend Seoul, lots of different stuff activities you can do, I was there 4 months and still felt like I only scratched the surface. I also Jeju island, it was awesome. I would say rent a car is the best way to experience Jeju but if you can't, I would recommend using bus and sleep in a new area of Jeju every time (Buses are quite slow so back and forth can be a annoying and also in most areas you will struggle to find a bus after 8'o'clock.
Busan fun too but the city layout make it hard to see a lot of attractions on a few days, you will spend a lot of time on the metro and buses. But hanging out at the beach and eating streefood with friends is pretty nice. If you there for longer I recommend going to the east coast, like Sokcho and hike in Seoroksan.
Most variety shows I would say are edited to be around an hour long episode, but I'm sure a lot that happened during filming is actually edited out. How long does filming usually take? When you have a variety show on your schedule, does it basically take your entire day?
Yeah me too, from what I hear, they do like 8 to 10 or even more and it gets edited to 1 hour like you said.
I have a question! How is the payment? In a video of a crayon pop member she mentioned that her first payment was a year after her debut, was that so for you? What they paid you was enough to live?
Its possible that they didn't make enough to cover their expenses and thus never got paid. Blady was quite an unknown group.
That one you mentioned a show in arirang where in they go to places and its like a compentition for two groups which has a better place ita like battletrip., pretty much the same plot only they go from other countries.,i like it so much.,.
