      Okay real talk I have some serious questions about a specific topic: cash monies $$ cha-ching! Nothing personal though, only technical questions about how it works.
      I always wondered how salary works. Like for an indie rock band for example, the members will split the profit, or agree to make a bank account for the group and pick from that to buy things directly related to the group like buying a van for touring or better equipment for recording, etc.
      Idol groups obviously work very differently, but I can't see the mathematical logic between these 2 examples:
      Group A has 4 members, Group B has 8 members. Both groups have the same kind of popularity, they bring in the same profit per year. Does each member of Group A get paid more from the split? Or is there a fixed salary per contract which means members of Group A and Group B are paid the same. If they are all paid the same it means there is extra money floating from the Group A since less total money is given to members, where does that money go?
      It just seems to me like there is not really a "fair" case either way.
      Are all members paid the exact same? For example is the leader paid more or a member who does a lot of extra stuff for the company would they be paid more or is that just considered "part of their job" on the contract? If a member has obviously more lines or is the center, are they paid more?
      Groups who hire a choreographer obviously have to paid this person, but if a member of the group makes the choreography, is that member getting paid the same?
      If a main dancer has extra task of teaching the dance to other members, are they getting paid for this?
      If a marketing company wants to hire an idol to make a CF or advertisement, do they have to go through the company and does the idol get all the profit or does the company take a cut, by virtue of "owning the idol", without even participating in this project?
      Are members salary based on % of profit? Is it a fixed number? Can that number change every year to reflect the growth of the group? Is it possible to get a raise? Or the opposite, would a bad year mean getting paid less for that year?
      Does the amount of work in a year affect total yearly salary at all? Does yearly profit affect that? Or does salary stays the same until an "official revision" or something like that?
      I'm aware of the "debt" idols have to repay to their company but if the company takes every profit for that, considering a group that takes a while to become profitable, all that time it takes to become big enough there's more stuff to pay every month, is it just adding up to the total debt, making it even longer to pay off? Are idols getting paid a little while paying off the debt or are they extremely dependent on their company?
      What if a group never becomes profitable? Is it just the company losing their gamble or do idols have to pay something on top of already being broke from not even being able to pay off the debt?
      On the contract we often hear about what the idols have to do or what they are not allowed to do, are there things the company has to do? I've heard of problem with companies not fulfilling their contract like Minzy's recent issues.
      What happens at the end of a contract? If there was money saved up for some plans for the group, is that all spend on the last project/album or what?
      Realistically even after a group's contract is done, they can still sell albums, how is that money distributed? Do idols see any of this post-contract money or do they get a one time "contract done" bonus and whatever sells after that goes to the company?
      I know that's a lot, but that's been on my mind forever. If you could have Ashley weigh in on this like a duo idol insider that would be amazing since some of these questions are basically situations happening to her right now or have happened very recently. I love seeing you popping up in her vlogs lol.
      Bonus questions (because this wall of text is not big enough I know):
      In the cases of groups changing members, how does that work?
      Like CLC and Dreamcatcher adding 2 new members after a while, is it just the company taking the risk of adding more members and paying them the same, or is the "group pay" a big pool that is now split more ways meaning the original members are now paid less?
      If it's a fixed pay, are new members paid less than the original members kinda like in a "normal job" where years of experience mean higher salary?
      What about a case like BOL4, Jiyoon leaving, is Jiyoung now paid more, not just based on the "split" idea but also because she will most likely have to do more things by herself now. More work should mean more money, right?

    I was always curious about the process of having a comeback.. like recording to mv's to dance practices, how the dance is taught- formations- etc. I feel like most "dance practices" mvs are like fully completed practice of the choreo rather than the process of actually learning it.
    Love the make up too!

    • @user-sm4ut7bs2t
      @user-sm4ut7bs2t 4 года назад +72

      it really depends for the dance, they could get a choreographer to create the dance for them whether its an outside company like 1M or Freemind or maybe within their own company they have their own choreographer (or some idols can actually take part in making it). The choreographer will receive the song in advance, when the choreo is made they'll send it to the company for approval, sometimes its a mix of different choreographers like RV - Psycho, or they could take the choreo as is like Mamamoo - Gogobebe. They usually have a few days - a week to learn it (Twice-Fancy took 3 days if I'm not wrong, Cherry Bullet-Hands up took 1 week I think). They could learn the dance from the actual choreographers, (Mamamoo learned Hip with Minny Park & Lia Kim at their company studio), or it's possible to learn the dance from the sample video and get approval and make changes as needed (sometimes the choreo is too intense to sing it at the same time).
      The dance practice is exactly what u said, it's meant to show a complete version of the choreo without any moving angles like in music shows.

    I have worked as a PA, it is exhausting, you always have to be there and work becomes your life. Even when you are on holiday, constantly you are on your phone, talking about schedules, that's the only reason I never got into a relationship. So I know how idol managers feel. Managers' salary hikes depend on idols' success, if the idols get successful, the managers get salary hikes. being an idol manager may be more difficult and stressful, but not everyone can sacrifice themselves like what managers do for their artists. It is no doubt that without them, it will be hard for idols to succeed in the music industry!

      I could never share a room with a manager, no matter how close we are. At the end of the day, no amount of closeness can change the fact that they are your manager and their job is to watch what you're doing. Just knowing that would turn me off so bad ugh
      I want privacy in bed, I want it to be the time of day where I can fully relax with my members or alone. Not having to STILL be under the watch of my manager. What if I am dating and want to text my bf or wanting to talk to my members about something personal? In my opinion, managers shouldn't be able to sleep in the same room as members so they can have that privacy. On god, I'd go mad in that situation.

    • @chaizan9733

      me lol. I mean i think ppl only find it fun because theyre often thinking about it being a party everyday while youre able to be close to their fav idols. But i see it as a job where you need to take care of someone who might be a dick, and not having much social life cuz youre a phone call away from ending that date or whatever youre doing to go look after the group or the artist.

    • @hman9981

      idols don't get mobbed everywhere they go, it happens at airports though when people know ahead of time

      @NamiNuitsuki 4 года назад +56

      people gotta live their own lives, right? They can't be chasing idols all the time lol
      For real, though, I think idols will probably pick quieter, smaller, areas to film in when there's not too much traffic. Or, like I said, their fans are busy doing their own thing like running errands, going to school, going to work, etc. I'm not an idol, though, so I can be wrong.

    Sometimes I think it would be great to see more Artists collaborate and form their own agencies, as they know what they need to feel safe and good, what they need from their managers, and what limits there needs to be for everything to mesh well. Everyone needs a bit of space, and since the manager-artist relationship needs to be professional, it can't be babysitting.

    • @tillycomedy2194
      @tillycomedy2194 2 года назад

      that's so difficult to do since managing your own agency takes a business mind, and most artists are creative minded. those skills are as different to each other as math is to dancing. they'd have to find an incredible team, as the schedule of a working artist doesn't allow them to do all that managerial work at the same time.

    I am studying in the same field as the manager, a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management I chose this field because this is suit to my personality for it's not exhausting at all I don't know when I am exhausted I know how to cope it up in just short amount of time I am organized, empathetic and understanding type of person, I can work under a lot of pressure and still be organized I found that out because college life is very stressful but I still manage to be sociable and having a good grade at the same time my personality is INFJ. I don't know sometimes I feel different from other people but I think I am gifted for having this kind of personality, I can be introvert and sociable at the same time, so it's not exhausting at all I think I will become a good manager in the near future, being a manager in the kpop industry is my dream but for now that's impossible.

  • @booklover1298

    I agree that what the relationship/connection between the idol and manager is like depends on if the manager is sociable or not. I think it could also depend on what the idol is like. I also agree that the more strict a company is the more an idol will lie and/or do things without telling the company.

    • @reyannacorf71
      @reyannacorf71 4 года назад

      They also have to make sure their idol maintains their image on camera, meets schedules, interacts with broadcasting companies for them, accompany them in public settings, you know M A N A G E them. It’s a combination of your work manager and a personal assistant, and every company and group has different ways their managers take part in their lives. Some are far more strict and others are like family.

      I think it's because each member has a stylist (I'm pretty sure it's the case with SM's groups, SJ for sure, but they have a lot of solo activities so that may be why) or there at least more than 1 stylist for a group, I've heard several idols from different groups refer to "my stylist" when talking with another member.
