Who does the best 14" Gaming laptop? Blade 14 vs ASUS Zephyrus G14 video coming soon! Update to battery life at 5:54 - I noticed the G14 wasn't as far ahead of the Blade 14 as it should be so retested the G14 and got a much better result, you can find all my updated battery results here: jarrods.tech/list-of-laptop-battery-life/
I found that the manual fan control only on the left side, the right side fan is for nvidia gpu if you don't use dgpu the fan will not turn on on the right, if you use dgpu it will adjust the fan by itself ...altho it's on my G15, i think it would be the same for g14
Unfortunately things are not going to change. It's not because OEMs are stingy with memory sticks. They just run out of faster sticks in stock due to global shortage of chips. Thus almost all the brands deliver new laptops with slower RAM at the moment.
The 74 degree temperature limit on the rtx 3060 is an asus software bug, it is caused by switching between arnoury crate performance profiles, especially in manual mode or when switching from silent mode. Workaround: switch to turbo mode and turn on IGP mode in software, (turns off the RTX 3060) then wait a few seconds and turn it back on. Use it on turbo mode and the temp limit will be 86 degrees. The power consumption will go up to 80W and the performance will be much better. The same software bug was in the 2020 model. It was caused by switching too quickly between silent and other power modes. The 74 degree limit should only be active in silent mode. (I also have a 2021 g14 and the gpu consumes 77 - 80W during games with the latest drivers)
@@JarrodsTech hey jarrod will you be reviewing the non pro legion 5? I think reviewing the base spec would be nice as reviewing the top one would pretty much be the L5P all over again

But, if anyone knows whether or not I need to do anything or set anything up to get the best performance for normal browsing on websites, gaming, and video editing. For example do I have to change any settings in the armory crate or update anything. Please let me know if you can help that would be great, thanks and have a good rest of your day!
Is it the 1440p screen improvement on a 14" laptop necessary? Why not they put a 16:10 screen instead, like 1920 x 1200, on the same chassis reducing the bottom unused space?
Probably because the hot air would go on to the screen rather than on the bezel. Imo I think the 1440p is better than the 1080p, the colour gammit is much better on the 1440p version. The 1080p isn't bad (100% sRGB and 75% P-3) but I prefer the 1440p version. This is what I've seen in stores with the laptops(now they're sold out 😞), they might be different to your eyes after some use.

Hi Jarrod, quick thoughts. What would you choose between the Alienware M15 R4 i10-10870, RTX 3070 125-140W (USD 1881 on Dell US website) or the MSI GP66 Leopard RTX 3070, 125-135W (USD 1899 on Newegg). Only will be buying for gaming purposes (esports like Valorant dota2 and AAA like RDR2, Witcher equally played). No editing or any other work, want a gaming laptop that can last as long as possible.
Watched this on my 2021 G14 :) Also one note: My G14 has the GPUs max temp from 80-85 degrees. This is the grey, 5900HS + 3060 version with the 1080p screen and 16gb of ram. I don't know how you keep getting a thermal throttle limit of 75 for the GPU. (Disclaimer: I am using mine with the boost disabled.)
I still have the 2020 model (RTX 2060 R9 4900HS) and I can't wait for the 2023 model. Hopefully, it will come with the Ryzen 6000 series CPU and maybe the RTX 4000 series
the soldered on kit is a micron kit that is also x16. I have the legion 5 pro and it is using basically the same micron modules. The timings of both my sticks are identical to your a1 soldered stick. clearly better than the samsung sticks but not as good as a pair of x8 sodimms.

@@JarrodsTech Thank you I love your detailed reviews. I have been a silent lurker on your Chanel for a while and am looking for a sub $3000 gaming laptop with the best FPS performance in Esports titles like CSGO and Valorant at 240/300Hz 1080p using an external monitor. 80% of my use with be with an external monitor however I’d like to be able to turn Optimus off when I need to use the laptop’s screen for gaming. I’d prefer a laptop with a 300Hz/1080p screen but don’t mind gaming at 165Hz when I am using the laptop screen if that will help me get a cheaper laptop. I looked at the Legion 7, Scar 17, Scar 15 and MSI GE 76 and all of these are well above $3000 with the 3080 16GB DDR6 option. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Anyone have stuttering issues with the G14 equipped with Ryzen 9 5900HS with RTX 3060? like the CPU freq randomly drops to 400MHz only (Yes I clean my fans every 3 month as well as modded using liquid metal on both GPU and CPU, and highest temp recorded while gaming and understress is 95c on CPU and 80c on GPU)
Trying to compare directly to razer 14 but you haven't got the total system latency of this one like you did for the razer? (which was on the slower side).
I had one of these and ended up returning it for a m1 mbp. Nice pc but too many compromises for an ultra portable experience, and wasn't the greatest for gaming either. I'm trying to get my hands on something with at least a rtx 3070 now.
Would you say this is still worth it for 2022/2025? Same setup, just changing the R9 for the R7, for $1000 ( brand new, in box ) thanks for your answer 😊
Is the higher resolution noticeable on a 14" screen? The 1080p is $300 cheaper albeit with 16GB less ram down from 32GB. Options are weird here in New Zealand.
How about touch pad. Do you have effect of lose first ~0,5mm when you touch it... You try to tap or double tap (not pressing buttons) and it clicks...?

We seem to have a third world variant of the G14 which runs a 3050 ti. I know there’s a 3050 vs 3050 ti video but maybe a 3050 ti vs 3060 video would be a good idea too. There’s quite the price gap between the two which makes 3050 ti laptops look like such a great value relatively but of course we know there will be compromises,
In my opinion this laptop is for people who already have desktop computers. if you want a desktop replacement this isn't the laptop for you. you're better off with slightly bigger 15" laptops that will perform better and will be cheaper to boot. I do own this laptop and it's amazing for the size. I appreciate tech like DLSS a lot more now.
Asus tuf a15 with ryzen 7 5800h & rtx 3060 or asus g17 with i7 10750h & gtx 1660ti.. which is better... I play games 2 to 3 hrs daily & office work mostly.. I have only one concern that if i choose g17 with 1660ti then how future proof will it be l.. plz suggest & thanks in advance ☺

800 would only have got you a 1650ti
@@johnm91326 Yeah, what i'm saying is, is that Asus is acting as if the 2021 line up adds to the 2020 line up, with no actual new successor to these laptops
1090 now I guess I'm buying one now 😂
@@johnm91326 1650ti BRUH BUY A 3050ti LAPTOP WTF???
I like how I’m watching this video right after I bough it instead of before I buy it XD great vid tho
Wait for the Legion 5 Gen 6, thanks for the contents 👌
Dislike the THICK space bar but looks like a great laptop
we need your excellent review for the M16
On the way! It's in testing at the moment.
I’m getting this on Monday!
I was about to buy this laptop, then I discovered it doesn't have a webcam, how unfortunate, now I have to look again.
At the moment the only replacement that I've found to buy is the OMEN 15, slightly bigger but with webcam and upgradable.
Blade 14 is the only other 14" gaming laptop I'm aware of, it has a camera, but the quality is pretty bad - review this Friday.
The RAM stick is showing 8gigs and a single channel one at 04:41 when he clearly mentioned it was a 16 gig dual channel one. Could someone give an explanation for this?
1 is soldered on the mother board (chip) and that one is a single channel sodimm
i literally bought this laptop today with the 1080p screen, after i had accidentally shorted the mb on last years model g14 while changing the ssd to a higher capacity one with the stupid screw
What a way to go out damn
Can't you unplug the battery first to prevent that?
I just got the new 2021 Asus Zephyrus G14 recently today. I haven't used it yet, still letting it charge for 24 hours before using it. But, if anyone knows whether or not I need to do anything or set anything up to get the best performance for normal browsing on websites, gaming, and video editing. For example do I have to change any settings in the armory crate or update anything. Please let me know if you can help that would be great, thanks and have a good rest of your day!
Why are you charging it for 24hrs ?? You know that's bad for the battery right ?
Great extensive review as always Jarrod 👍
Any update as to when that Omen 16 with the 6600m is heading your way?
Hello Jarrod, are you going to make a review of the new alienware x17 in the near future ? Big up from France !
I'm interested in the x15
Any comparisons between 3060s with different TDPs?
Is it the 1440p screen improvement on a 14" laptop necessary? Why not they put a 16:10 screen instead, like 1920 x 1200, on the same chassis reducing the bottom unused space?
Probably because the hot air would go on to the screen rather than on the bezel. Imo I think the 1440p is better than the 1080p, the colour gammit is much better on the 1440p version. The 1080p isn't bad (100% sRGB and 75% P-3) but I prefer the 1440p version.
This is what I've seen in stores with the laptops(now they're sold out 😞), they might be different to your eyes after some use.
do you think you can send a link of the eclipse grey color with the RTX 3060 and the 5900HS please? I have been trying to find one like you have without the anime matrix (or the 2021 model) over 3 months now and can't find one!
Edit: Just subbed too!
been consumer on limited cash its super hard to make decision, 5900hx 5900hs 11800h aint easy to choose right laptop, makes it harder when they not in stores to test it, i feel everyone should have chance with hands on display unit. however, i think i can say that buying one of this new laptops is lil bit easier coz new gen cpus are quite efficient, just comes down to what brand you like. i bought msi gp66 with 11800h and 3070 and mae me quite happy gamer
Dont worry linux fans , my asus tuf a15 wasn't even able to install debian based linux distro and I went with manajro for that time but after a month later Ubuntu 20.10 came and fixed everything and now I am on 21.04 which works fast af and clean af. some new hardware requires their drivers in kernel which will be available after next kernel release.
All the reviewers seem to have the black variant, but I can only find the white one.
Too bad because I like how the black looks better.
Do you know when I could see a review on the new dell XPS 15/17?
Is the GL65 the best price/performance laptop to buy right now?
Yeah, but the panel has very poor colour in my country + terrible battery
Is zephyrus M15 with gtx 1660ti 6gb 240hz a good choice for photo/video editing and gaming??
How abt the temperature
thanks mate i will prob buy one this thing is a monster

Where’s everyone getting the QHD version 🥲 I got the FHD 144Hz version back in March
What cable do u use with external monitor? USB type c to HDMI? or something else.
I've seen reviews of it's HDMI end gets very hot and even ignite, so i wanna know ur setup for external monitor and how its holding up.
Thanks for ur reply in advance, I REALLY appreciate ur reviews.
Hey!
1080p in 15inc screen
Or 1440p in 14 inc screen
What do you think looks better?
If you dont care about size?
1080p on 15.6 looks great from >1feet. any closer its pixelsssss. so 1440p would be the best for 15.6. 1080p for 14 will be best.
@@tejaspadhye hmm
I have a 1080p 60hz 15inc screen :(
Hi Jarrod, quick thoughts.
No editing or any other work, want a gaming laptop that can last as long as possible.
would you recommend this for working as a 4x4 (work, gaming, etc) ?
Where did he find the grey 3060 model? Seems like the white one is only available on Best Buy
Watched this on my 2021 G14 :)
Also one note: My G14 has the GPUs max temp from 80-85 degrees. This is the grey, 5900HS + 3060 version with the 1080p screen and 16gb of ram. I don't know how you keep getting a thermal throttle limit of 75 for the GPU.
(Disclaimer: I am using mine with the boost disabled.)
Do you recommend it ?
You like it ? Does it have good performances and can run Adobe softwares?
Will u be putting out a review for the a15 2021 edition?
Yess G14 review!! ❤️
Hi Jarrod, have this laptop what settings do you need to set in order to achieve 10hr battery life? Hope to hear from you soon :)

I still have the 2020 model (RTX 2060 R9 4900HS) and I can't wait for the 2023 model. Hopefully, it will come with the Ryzen 6000 series CPU and maybe the RTX 4000 series
Does the 2020 model come with the crippled RAM? or are the RAM timings ok?
got the version with the 32 gb of ram. hope that helps with the performance!
the soldered on kit is a micron kit that is also x16. I have the legion 5 pro and it is using basically the same micron modules. The timings of both my sticks are identical to your a1 soldered stick. clearly better than the samsung sticks but not as good as a pair of x8 sodimms.
I think is macron x8 checkout his amd advantage edition video
the micron timings are certainly better than the samsung sticks though
Why was the MSI GE76 removed from your list in the comparisons?
There are 120+ laptop results, only 20 or so fit in the graph, each video is a case by case basis and i pick things that make the most sense to compare
According to you what were its flaws?
Would you say this is still worth it for 2022/2025? Same setup, just changing the R9 for the R7, for $1000 ( brand new, in box ) thanks for your answer 😊
@Jarrod'sTech did you receive any of the new alienware x series laptops for testing yet
Alien x15 or rog advantage or asus m16 or triton 500 se or legeion 7
WHICH IS BEST AND WHICH I CAN BUY!
Should i get this or the tuf a15? For study and some gaming on few AAA titles and esports titles
I hope you got the zephyrus g14.
Good detailed review 👍
Thanks! 👍
I'm planning on buying this laptop soon, but i need a webcam for my online classes. Do they give a webcam with the laptop package. OR do we have to buy one separately?
Not included. Just use your phone's camera instead, much better quality than any webcam.
I want to buy Asus ROG strix G17. But I don't which cpu and gpu combo should go.. (R9 5900H & rtx 3060) or ( R7 5800H & rtx 3060). I want to use it for gaming and studies.
Hi, please help..
I just got a Zephyrus g14 rtx 3050ti r7. Do u guys encounter screen black out for 1 sec when i plug it in via power charger or USB c.. I noticed mine black out for a second when it happens, and I find it very annoying. My retail shop tell me it happens for all g14.
We seem to have a third world variant of the G14 which runs a 3050 ti. I know there’s a 3050 vs 3050 ti video but maybe a 3050 ti vs 3060 video would be a good idea too. There’s quite the price gap between the two which makes 3050 ti laptops look like such a great value relatively but of course we know there will be compromises,
Those are actually replacements of the 1650 variant of the 2020 G14 model.
This review was soo helpful
For someone new to the pc gaming
Should i go for this or the legion 5pro
Or build my own pc rig?
Im still confused by it tbh
zentimings says failed to read amd acpi on my ideapad gaming 3 4600h. what to do?
In my opinion this laptop is for people who already have desktop computers. if you want a desktop replacement this isn't the laptop for you. you're better off with slightly bigger 15" laptops that will perform better and will be cheaper to boot. I do own this laptop and it's amazing for the size. I appreciate tech like DLSS a lot more now.
Jarrod the right type C has no DP 1.4 right?
Asus tuf a15 with ryzen 7 5800h & rtx 3060 or asus g17 with i7 10750h & gtx 1660ti.. which is better... I play games 2 to 3 hrs daily & office work mostly.. I have only one concern that if i choose g17 with 1660ti then how future proof will it be l.. plz suggest & thanks in advance ☺
How did you get almost 60c in idle? I have like 35c and maybe max 40c
