We have the LSXS26326S for about two years and love it, bought before seeing complaints, the complaints were way before this model, hopefully it keeps working
Had an LG in my old house and loved it. The compressor did go out, but they replaced it no charge. Luckily I had a garage fridge and a separate freezer so it wasn't too big of an inconvenience. After they replaced the compressor it ran fine for the next four years. My parents have the model year after mine and their compressor has been going on for 7 years now.
My LG Fridge without the linear compressor bottom freezer is now 17 1/2 yrs old. It's just now starting to go. It's a great fridge. Again without the linear compressor.
In Australia I got a smaller LG bottom freezer about two years ago with the linear compressor and have no problems. On my old fridge, I’d buy ice cream which is soft from the supermarket and it won’t be hard until the next day. On the LG it will be hard that evening. It seems to chill things quickly once you put them in the fridge, the old fridge was 29 years old.
I have the same fridge, but in white. There are some things I would like to point out about this model. In the freezer, the bottom shelf extends further then the upper shelves because of the drawer. The shelves are made of glass. Some frozen meat fell off the upper shelf and shattered the glass on the bottom shelf. The warranty didn't cover the replacement. I didn't want to replace it with the same cheap glass, so I just bought a piece of 1/4" PVC plastic sheet, and cut it to size. Also, the LG factory water filters can be purchased by a number sellers at a reasonable price for a set of 4 at around $35 from Ebay.
Thank you for this video. 5 years ago, I bought a home with a 4 year old LG French Door refrigerator with the linear compressor. Last week the refrigerator stopped cooling properly. Fortunately, it is only 9 years old at this point, so I was able to schedule a repair under warranty. For the amazing and affordable fixed price of only $399 LG sent a technician to replace my compressor and the fridge is now fridging properly. It took about 1-1/2 hours. I forgot to check to see if the new compressor was a linear compressor, though the tech told me it was. R-134 in this old girl. Hopefully the replacement compressor will last longer than the original, though I will consider myself lucky enough if it lasts another 9 years. Aside from this, the refrigerator is pretty great! Ice maker works well, it has lots of room and is well-lit on the inside. I did have to make a modification on the center door seal/flap so that it would close properly, but since then it works flawlessly. (it helps to be handy, but I'm not handy enough to replace a compressor!)
Picked up a LG with the smart inverter compressor with a 10 yr warranty (LG LRDNC1004V), so there are some LG options without the risk of the linear compressors with a great warranty.

Great review Ben. We love the LTCS20020S/W/B top mounts that LG has. Great seller for us and no real reliability issues over the many years we have sold it. LG can be good, just gotta know what to look for!
Nice to know! Are you seeing many sealed system cases outside of warranty? WP top mounts seem to be the worst now, and I am always looking to see whats better to suggest. What are your preferred top mounts?
@@bensappliancesandjunk Can't say we have seen any sealed system issues just yet on it.. We typically recommend a basic GE top mount when looking at strictly reliability (such as the GTS18GTNRWW), and then the LG if they are looking for a bit more space and a sleeker design.

I keep hearing that the linear compressor is bad, and I have an LG french door refrigerator with one, and it failed. However, LG replaced the compressor at no cost (parts and labor, even though I was outside the labor warranty) and the tech told me that compressor was being overdriven a slight amount, which over time causes it to fail. The tech installed a new compressor and upgraded the firmware, and said after the firmware upgrade it shouldn’t have any more issues? Is the linear compressor reliable now that there is a fix? I feel like I still hear about how bad it is, but nobody mentions if LG fixed the issue or not.
I have also heard rumblings that the issue was identified and resolved but boy oh boy did LG burn themselves bad with that first run of linear compressors. I still have trouble selling their laundry to my customers even though their washers are literally orders of magnitude better performing *and* more reliable than the nasty 1960's stamped rusty metal junk that Whirlpool squeezes out that Americans seem to love. Maybe it makes people feel patriotic to pay a $500+ electric bill?
I have not seen any issues with the replacement compressors (FLS075LANA). I was told that the replacement compressors are better built with stronger springs and pistons.

Got my side by side LG for 2 weeks now. First thing I notice is that the yellow sticker that was at the store with the energy used/year, was different! The one inside my unit shows a pretty higher figure than the advertised one! Second, that temperature indicator number at the right side is not the temperature of the inside. It is a wish temperature to have. Mine was set to 37 degree, but my mercury thermometer showed 38. No problem, but when set at 35, the thermometer still reads 38!. And the ice dispenser leaves much to be desired: Can you dispense ice without the cubes or crunched ice not spilling to the floor? Try it. But of course you may argue you should use a bucket. Your call, but I am one of those people that drink out of a glass, not a bucket. Lastly, the drawers at the lower part are very hard to reach or you have to bend down too much. I solved the problem adding plastic handles to the front of each drawer. But I paid good money for the unit and should not have to add silly things like this. Oh! One more thing: Next time you are around a refrigerator, any, while it is ON, pass you hand by the sides and note the temperature of the outside metal of the box. It should not be cold. If it is, there is poor insulation and consequently energy loses. On this LG, the left side is feeling way too cold for comfort on ideal energy conservation. The right side is fine. Overall, satisfied, but I am waiting to see my power bill at end of the month... Comments are welcomed.

We’ve had an LG fridge for about 10 years. Never need anything. But today it started making a sound that sounds like if you blow really hard into an empty soda can. It’s quick and only does it every few minutes. I’m worried what the sound is. So here I am researching what to buy.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Thank you - My fridge died again (3rd compressor failure in 8 years) and am in a market for Fridge again but I really love other features (quietness, no frost issue whatsoever, just overall very nice) and would love that video to reference before my new purchase.
We got this same referigerator in April 2024 and seems a nicely built machine. From last few weeks we noticed our milk is getting spoiled in few days. Then we realized milk is not as cold as we expect in a referigrator. I used my food check thermometer and came to know the actual temperature of inside the referigerator is staying at 44 degree. Even though the referigerator is set at default settings 37 Degree for Fridge and 0 Degree for Freezer. Any Idea Ben?
I bought LG refrigerator with Linear compressor in Dec 2020. It's not even 4 yrs and freezer is not working. I called LG customer service and they suspected it to be a compressor problem. But how come an LG refrigerator with linear compressor not working properly just within 4 yrs?
I'm sitting here with a non working LG LSXS26366S/02 which is the side by side with the little door you can open on top left which is why we bought it. We had the compressor go out while it was under warranty and was replaced. Then our ice maker started having seal problems which made it freeze up. Now, apparently the compressor which has already been replaced once, is not cooling especially on the freezer side as before. Now it is out of warranty of course. Zero Stars DO NOT RECOMMEND.
@@bensappliancesandjunk It was purchased 11-2018. LG rep said they would cover a replacement compressor but not the labor which is $700+ so we are thinking of buying a new one now.

Parts, i ordered parts from LG (condenser fan seized) and they took 2 months to ship. And the part was expensive (120 CAD for a fan) Are all vendors that slow and expensive?
Hi Ben, Your content has been really helpful with our appliance purchases. What's your current opinion on the LG french door models? We're in the market for a new counter depth fridge and aside from uncertainty about reliability the LG LRFLC2706S seems like it would be perfect us. LGs website specs say that they now have a "Smart Inverter Compressor", or is that just a rebranding of the linear compressor? Also if it's the case that they've started changing the compressors in newer stock do you have any suggestions to make sure the exact fridge I receive would have the more reliable compressor?
I have the side by side with door in a door Icemaker went out year four the freezer shelves are BAD design and I had to get a chest freezer to hold they bulk of my weekly shopping because if you stack three packages of chicken on a shelf, the shelf would fall, I added paint stir sticks under shelf to make it wider so they don't fall as much but you have to be careful they get knocked out of place. I ordered one for my condo due to the galley style kitchen it is space saving and being 6’ (not super tall but tall enough) I hate leaning down to look for my banana peppers 😅 in the back. So bottom freezer door opening with drawers just hit all the functional aspects for me.
Hey Ben, I have this refrigerator and I just ruined the finish on the front of it. Do you know if there's a way to source parts for it? I need the ice door unfortunately
It’s also all the ancillary bits on LG that fail. The water dispensing button on ours just failed after only 4 years use. It just popped and little springs and bits of plastic fell out. It’s held together with tape now as I’m sure repairing it would require taking the door apart and the service call will cost more than the fridge is worth! The same for our dishwasher; cracks and burnt out leds on the control panel. Sadly there seems to be no way to avoid buying this korean made to fail junk.
We have a beautiful LG French door model that's 9 years old. It's on Its 3rd compressor. I really love the design of the fridge but the LG linear compressor is obviously unreliable. If the current compressor dies in the next year while the 10-year parts warranty on the compressor is still good then I will probably get it fixed one more time. But if it dies after the warranty is up I'll probably look to buy a different brand.
Hi there. Great vid. I’m looking at the new version of this fridge . Model Ly27s3240s. The compressor is neither you addressed. It’s part # TCA37091607. How can I know if it the linear(bad one) or not. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the great review. I want to buy an LG French door fridge. How will I know if it has a linear compressor or are they moving away from that type of compressor. Thank you so much. Peter
Some modify their systems for that... But it requires more than just doing the compressor, as the board outputs variable voltage, so that has to be changed too. Its doable though.
Assuming you want French door what brand do you recommend in large capacity (e.g. >28 cu ft)? Has LG begun to offer the type of compressor you recomment?
My LG fridge with linear inverter lasted about 8 years, then the compressor had to be replaced. LG would only cover the parts so it still cost me ~$600 for labor. Everything else has worked fine.
Question: What do you mean in this video by "top loading?" That sounds like washer terminology. Do you possibly mean the freezer on top (of the fridge on top)? Thanks.
Purchased an LG french door refrigerator in 2016 and have had nothing but problems! Have to keep replacing the fan assembly every 2-3 years! Will never buy another one!
Unfortunately LG has tarnished their reputation for refrigerators as far as I’m concerned. I’d rather get a Whirlpool side by side, our Amana side by side has been flawless for 10 years now.
Me and my X wife bought a Brand new LG REFRIGERATOR Best one they made at the time in 2008 we are divorced and she still has it and it Works just fine that's a long time
Thanks for the info on the LG compressor. Knowing that there was a class action lawsuit several years ago (settled in 2020 according to Consumer Reports), it seemed likely that they had acknowledged and corrected their compressor problem. It's good to know that their linear compressors may still be unreliable, but some of their fridges w/o the linear compressor might be a good choice. * I don't want to be a schill, so I should mention I work for LG although not its kitchen appliances. Do your own research. Caveat emptor.
My compressor stopped working about 4 years ago after about 8 years of ownership. Installed a hard start kit on it and have not had any problems since then.

Models made in Korea are better built.
We’ve had an LG fridge for about 10 years. Never need anything. But today it started making a sound that sounds like if you blow really hard into an empty soda can. It’s quick and only does it every few minutes. I’m worried what the sound is. So here I am researching what to buy.
Thank you - do you know where I can find what LG models have these compressors?
Trying to work on a video to show that soon
@@bensappliancesandjunk Thank you - My fridge died again (3rd compressor failure in 8 years) and am in a market for Fridge again but I really love other features (quietness, no frost issue whatsoever, just overall very nice) and would love that video to reference before my new purchase.
Saw this review after I bought the fridge lol. Hopefully i have good luck with it. Get it in a few days.
Same here, just purchased LG fridge last week. Fingers crossed.
Me too 😂
how is it holding up?
@@jc2367 no issues. Nice fridge.
Another good post, keep it up. Any up date on your washing machine tub clean products?
Its on our website, yes. bens-appliances.com/products/wash-bomb-washing-machine-cleaning-solution?_pos=1&_sid=206f6770c&_ss=r
Hi Great Video Ive had mine for about 6M and my crisper draws are to warm what can i do ?
I bought LG refrigerator with Linear compressor in Dec 2020. It's not even 4 yrs and freezer is not working. I called LG customer service and they suspected it to be a compressor problem. But how come an LG refrigerator with linear compressor not working properly just within 4 yrs?
The model reviewed is LRSXS2706 but the title incorrectly shows LRSXS2726
I'm sitting here with a non working LG LSXS26366S/02 which is the side by side with the little door you can open on top left which is why we bought it. We had the compressor go out while it was under warranty and was replaced. Then our ice maker started having seal problems which made it freeze up. Now, apparently the compressor which has already been replaced once, is not cooling especially on the freezer side as before. Now it is out of warranty of course. Zero Stars DO NOT RECOMMEND.
How old is the unit?
@@bensappliancesandjunk It was purchased 11-2018. LG rep said they would cover a replacement compressor but not the labor which is $700+ so we are thinking of buying a new one now.
Can you do a video or comment on the difference between smart inverter compressor, inverter compressor, linear, and which one has the problem? I just purchased an LG max depth from Costco to protect myself with the purchase. Thanks for your content!
My goal at some point is just to tear One down and rip the compressor apart to do a video on explaining why they fail
I watched another video and they said the newest LG (model LRFLC27065) has an inverter compressor...Is that the improved kind that you referred to or is it still a linear one?
R600 charge is in a vacuum and to find leaks you pretty much need to pressurize it . Great video
We just bought a GE GNE25JYKGFFS.
had it a couple of weeks, Made in Mexico, uses R600A.
Very quiet and works well so far, looks great, Stainless.
French Door Model. $1499 at a Lowly Store.
LOL @ the "GoldStar" hat 😂
I had a compressor replaced after 4 years on lg linear type. Repair guy from LG said new one had updated software . Will that mean compressor should last longer?
Parts, i ordered parts from LG (condenser fan seized) and they took 2 months to ship. And the part was expensive (120 CAD for a fan) Are all vendors that slow and expensive?
Hi Ben,
Your content has been really helpful with our appliance purchases.
Fridge I have issues with tall items only fit in door unless you remove a shelf. Would I buy again ? NO
You can adjust the top shelf down 2 inches and taller items will fit
This model had the ice maker in the door though. Thought that was big no no?
Hi, I'm curious to know what your opinion of 2 in 1 washer dryer combo. Is it a wise buy or a no go?
Most experts say go for 2 purpose machines as opposed to one combo.
Have an LG top load washer WT7100CW, cold water faucet has to be turned on/off manually because water continues in machine even before starting washer. Researched and think may be solinoid intake valve. Is this an easy changeout for do it yourself. Appreciate your thoughts. Thank you
Ben, I just purchased LG Model# LRDCS2603S /01, refrigerator from Lowes. Can you please tell me is this the fridge with the bad compressor? If I only knew about this sooner. I never knew LG has bad compressors.... Thank You
When shopping, how do I determine if the compressor is linear? I am not going to bring a screwdriver to the showroom and open up the back; from what I see online, product descriptions don't cover this subject.
At the moment most or all the French doors have them and the Side by Sides don't
@@bensappliancesandjunkgoing to hold you to that. im deciding between this model and the lg counter depth max 27 cuft. if French doors mean you might get a bad compressor i dont want to take that chance.
Thanks again. I really enjoy your reviews. I am looking to buy an LG fridge with bottom freezer. Can you recommend a model#. I need a 30 inch wide fridge. From what you said in this review the fridge with the bottom freezer should not have the linear compressor? Thank you so much
lg lfs22520 compressor just went out 3 years old. covered by warranty. if goes out again will buy another brand
Thanks for the info what is the Model number of the South Korean side by side you said LRSO2726 that number seem wrong. I’d like to by the South Korean version. JR
Wish if you can review Midea refrigerators 29 cf. I bought one with french door for $1500 and it’s so far so good. No LG no Samsung anymore for me.
I will at some point. We just started getting everything in via scratch and dent, and Midea does make some cheap ones I'd like to talk about
what type of compressor does it use? is it a Reciprocating Compressor and does it use an inverter?
I was thinking about buying the LG model LRSDS2706. It is the side by side with the glass door on the right. Which compressor does it have?
So i have one with a linear compressor.... can i do anything or am i just screwed?
Just keep it clean for the condenser. What year is it?
I watched your other fridge video. I’m curious what your opinions would be the LG 24'' Counter Depth Bottom Freezer Refrigerator 11.9 cubic feet. I ordered one for my condo due to the galley style kitchen it is space saving and being 6’ (not super tall but tall enough) I hate leaning down to look for my banana peppers 😅 in the back. So bottom freezer door opening with drawers just hit all the functional aspects for me.
Another great video. Thank you
Hey Ben, I have this refrigerator and I just ruined the finish on the front of it. Do you know if there's a way to source parts for it? I need the ice door unfortunately
Lrsxc2306s
same recommendation for the counter depth version of this fridge?
Yes
Love the new hat!
In lg refrigerators Is the smart inverter the same thing as the linear compressor?
Itd come down to model#
What are your thoughts on LRFWS2906S?
Hey Ben! Would you know if the LY27S3240S has that bad linear compressor
Hi there. Great vid. I’m looking at the new version of this fridge . Model Ly27s3240s. The compressor is neither you addressed. It’s part # TCA37091607. How can I know if it the linear(bad one) or not. Thank you!
How can you tell what kind of compressor is in the fridge without having to take the back off? We are in the market for a new fridge.
Front of the fridge might have a Inverter Linear tag. Mine does. It's junk. 4500.00 worth of junk
Thank you so much for the great review. I want to buy an LG French door fridge. How will I know if it has a linear compressor or are they moving away from that type of compressor. Thank you so much.
Peter
Above the ice dispenser where the controls are, it should either say LC Linear compressor or Smart inverter
What stops one from using a different manufacturers compressor?
Some modify their systems for that... But it requires more than just doing the compressor, as the board outputs variable voltage, so that has to be changed too. Its doable though.
Assuming you want French door what brand do you recommend in large capacity (e.g. >28 cu ft)? Has LG begun to offer the type of compressor you recomment?
I have a Samsung Bespoke review, its on the higher end of recommendations and is 30cf.
Is there any reason to avoid r600 compressor refrigerators full stop? Or is it more case by case?
Are the "Smart Inverter Compressors" any good? I just bought an LG LRFWS2906S with one of those. Hope i didn't get scammed!
How's that model doing? We are in a tight spot and that particular LG is what we are looking to purchase.
ended up returning it before delivery date, i just bought a used fridge for super cheap and its been working great since.@@themooker
My LG fridge with linear inverter lasted about 8 years, then the compressor had to be replaced. LG would only cover the parts so it still cost me ~$600 for labor. Everything else has worked fine.
My refrigerator last only two year. The exchange cost $600 too. Never buy LG again
Question:
What do you mean in this video by "top loading?" That sounds like washer terminology. Do you possibly mean the freezer on top (of the fridge on top)? Thanks.
Yes, mistake on my part. Top mount
What are your thoughts on Bosch?
Purchased an LG french door refrigerator in 2016 and have had nothing but problems! Have to keep replacing the fan assembly every 2-3 years! Will never buy another one!
How do you know if it's made in S. Korea?
Unfortunately LG has tarnished their reputation for refrigerators as far as I’m concerned. I’d rather get a Whirlpool side by side, our Amana side by side has been flawless for 10 years now.
Me and my X wife bought a Brand new LG REFRIGERATOR Best one they made at the time in 2008 we are divorced and she still has it and it Works just fine that's a long time
Lasted longer than your marriage, what more can you ask for
Ben is da 💣 !!
What part of LG do you work with?
@@tomjohnston3601ZENITH. WOW. theres a name I haven’t heard in awhile.
Consumer reports seems to like the 2024 LGs. But I’m still nervous about buying one!
My compressor stopped working about 4 years ago after about 8 years of ownership. Installed a hard start kit on it and have not had any problems since then.
I stile have my 30-ish year old whirlpool.. or is it kitchen aid... side by side and it's still going strong. It is getting hard to find filters for it now, but I don't really drink or use tap water anymore.
How can you tell what kind of compressor you have?
Check the door. It will say LC, Inverter Linear, or Smart Inverter. Smart Inverter is the reliable old school type compressor
@James K thank you, but mine doesn't show any of those. It's a GE, French doors, bottom freezer.
@@47retta All household fridges including Samsung use the conventional design reciprocating compressor. The linear compressor is LG's exclusive design found only on LG and a few Kenmore models.
Also, if you have an ice maker inside your GE fridge compartment its a LG ice maker. LG has a patent on their ice maker for french door fridges.
Is this a quiet refrigerator especially with regards to the gurgling of the gas? (I realize that some gurgling is normal but a friend has a new GE side by side and it is disturbing.)
I think the gurgling that you're hearing is when it's in defrost mode and its water going down to the piping and into the pan
My LG Linear compressor died just after 3 years of use. I wish I would have seen this video 3 years ago.
i bought a LG LFX25980ST back in 2009 as an open box unit from best buy and the only problem ive had is water leaking from from the water in lines. which is prob becuase theyre old and cracking. ive replaced sections of it but i think more cracked recently. im finally looking to move this one to the garage where it wont do water or ice and update the inside one. good to know LG can be good if you get the right model. this channel and a few others have been great for this process too. the sales people at big box stores here, which are about the only option other than online, tend to know nothing about anything and try to wow you with the stupid fancy features like smart screens that bring nothing of value, only misery.
Thank you this is helpful
LG has been ditching the linear compressor on french doors. Its just the marketing is blurry because they still slap "smart inverter compressor" on everything while referring to either kind.
LHSXS2706S I just got this one. Any comments?
These fridges still have the linear compressor, fyi. LG simply changed the name to "inverter compressor."
