@Logan Mega well, actually the reason it sold so much was mainly because of how much hype surrounded it prior to 2016, every Nintendo fan was coming off of how they felt about the Wii U weather it be a good feeling or not so great, which surprisingly enough a lot of people who had it actually enjoyed it rather than trashing it because it didn't sell amazingly. This new console offered promise of an experience worth purchasing since the power of the gamecube, and it was slightly more affordable than the PS4 And XBOX ONE at the time
@Effective lion what the heck are you even doing to the joycon because it took me 2 years to replace mine that I have thousand of hour playing games meanwhile my sister took 1 year because she keep tossing her switch or joycon by accident and let her rabbit pissed on it to the point the circuit board got wet and the controller went nuts. I still have my V1 while my sister has V2 animal crossing. Since I do some controller maintenance replacing the analog stick costing 2$ each I have no problem fixing it anyway.
I haven't even pretended to care since the ps3 era, when we were allowed to troll on youtube and it was great fun. I thought the switch was last gen... shows how much interest I take now

I'm gonna be honest, I'm Xbox currently converting over to PC and I wanna know where you're getting this stat. As far as I'm aware us Xbox players have lost. The marketing strategy for the Nintendo Switch is genius. Not only do they advertise for teens, and adults, they have games for children, and market to families, something like getting a TV for your family. They’ve brought back the idea of the console being for the whole family, and that’s what sold them so many units
And since it's primarily a portable the kids will all want their own Switch. 1 or 2 TV households with 3 kids could end with 3+ Switch consoles. Instead 1or2 TV console.

it rans for 2 generations but even at the time that the ps5 released the switch still sold more units after the ps5 got released so it kinda won (28.8m in 2021, 23.06m in 2022 and 17.97m in 2023) so yeah even without counting the headstart it still easily outsold, the reason why the switch sold this well is probably because of the exclusives and the fact that the console is more kid / old people friendly since the playstation and xbox are more for ''diehard'' gaming fans.
its not because they have a headstart, its because the switch is more affordable, has alot of exclusives, more features and only targetting on how fun it is, not power. thats why the wii has 480p and weaker when others have 1080p at the time, but has features no one saw before and sold over 100m. just like the switch.

Let's not forget that the PS2 came out back when the PS1 was still getting new releases and it stayed around until a few months before the release of the PS4, making it the longest running console ever at 13 years.
I think the Wii lasted longer a bit longer by a year or 2, with some dance game in 2020 or 2021 being the last official Wii game

I think the reason why the switch won is because it got an early head start
it rans for 2 generations but even at the time that the ps5 released the switch still sold more units after the ps5 got released so it kinda won (28.8m in 2021, 23.06m in 2022 and 17.97m in 2023) so yeah even without counting the headstart it still easily outsold, the reason why the switch sold this well is probably because of the exclusives and the fact that the console is more kid / old people friendly since the playstation and xbox are more for ''diehard'' gaming fans.
Because the people that own a Switch actually buy their games and support their games
its not because they have a headstart, its because the switch is more affordable, has alot of exclusives, more features and only targetting on how fun it is, not power. thats why the wii has 480p and weaker when others have 1080p at the time, but has features no one saw before and sold over 100m. just like the switch.
