Don't forget: like a dry sponge, the water won't be absorbed by the hard, dry ground affected by years of drought, hence flash floods being a big concern.

The warm water means that the storm can get stronger and stay strong longer. I live in San Diego County and our local news are saying that there is a chance it will make landfall as either a weak Cat 1 hurricane or a strong tropical storm.
But Pacific waters r cold due to Californian currents hence it'll start to rapidly weaken

We ride out topical storms. We do not ride out storms when they reach hurricane levels. We evaluate.I have rode out a hurricane level 1 and it is intense. Never will do it again.
Like they said, you have to be worried about flooding around your area and losing power for days. If you stay then I would plan on being stuck in your house for a week.

If the eye follows the track, the Bay area will see significant winds and flooding.

Is that all the rain expected? That is nothing. Upstate NY can get 6" of rain in one to 3 hours. Nothing to worry about with the dry grouns .
You don’t understand our water tables. We only get 10-20 in of rain per year. And that’s in a good year. Getting anything more that 5 plus inches in one day, let alone 2 days would overwhelm the low lying areas. Flood the sewers, flash flood streets, cause the mountains to land slide, the list goes on. We saw a glimpse of it this past winter. The infrastructure is not set up to deal with that much water.

That is not certain yet. It is still many miles away and the storm track may change again. Rain is a near certainty but as to whether or not it makes landfall in San Diego as a cat 1 cannot be concluded until it gets much closer than it is now. A local news station(San Diego) stated this evening that it might either make landfall as a weak cat 1 or a strong tropical storm. The severity of rainfall will depend on exactly where it makes landfall.

Southern California has been hit by tropical storms more recently than 1939. One significant one was Kathleen which impacted Southern California in 1976 and caused significant damage to Interstate 8 destroying a bridge due to severe flooding caused by the storm. There have been others before and since the 1976 storm. Get your facts straight.
Those storms never hit California. Rain, yes, but the actual storm went inland Mexico ONLY.
@chadpopulisjr243 Historically, there have been hurricanes that have made landfall in Southern California it just doesn't happen as often as it does for those who live in the Gulf of Mexico and the east coast. Our waters are much warmer this year, which is why there is a better chance for this storm coming up to Southern California.

@@chadpopulisjr243 maybe not of a hurricane but we have had other tropical storms make landfall in California between 1939 and now. I know people who remember the 1976 tropical storm that made a more inland landfall as it came up on the east side of Baja California. Not only that but I remember vividly the one that happened in 1997 which was one of the worst storms to hit Southern California. The rain that came down from the 1997 storm cause severe widespread flooding. The storm drains in my town including the one in my neighborhood couldn't handle the amount of rainfall that was coming down and the pooling water pushed up the manhole cover on the storm drain outside my house. So no I am not misinformed I have lived through one of them and as such I know for a fact. Fact is the 1997 storm was significantly more severe than the one that just happened this year.
