- Hurricane Hilary continues to rapidly intensify after developing into a hurricane early Thursday morning, and forecasters said that the hurricane's path could bring "significant" impacts to Southern California and the Southwest by the end of the week and into the first part of next week.
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), rapid intensification occurs when a tropical cyclone's maximum sustained winds increase by at least 35 mph in a 24-hour period.

Don't forget power outages. Make sure you have food and water, gas in car, cash on hand, devices charged and external chargers, batteries, flashlights, medications, etc. Maybe sandbags if in low areas. Make sure storm drains are clear of debris. They should have provided more information on how to actually prepare.

LA is NOT prepared for this event. IF it hits LA, I'd expect long massive power outages and an insane amount of looting afterwards. Few people in LA have emergency water and emergency food supplies.

We live in inland SoCal and will prepare accordingly tomorrow. So many possible scenarios which are not known yet. Just have your food, medication, gas in vehicles, alternate power sources and cash on hand. Shelter in place if necessary. Best advice is to stay inside if possible.

Please do not count on any government agency to come and save you. Here in Florida hurricane season means think for yourself. Ask Louisiana folk how fast help came. Government cannot handle a catastrophic event. Think about what you would need without running water or electricity. When you have done your calculations double every thing. Supplies needed for two weeks is my minimum.

Wait. At first, he says "major hurricane," and then he is talking about 40 MPH winds. 40 MPH winds aren't even close to a hurricane. If they are worried about 40 MPH winds, they need to reach out to their east coast counter parts for some.guidance. We do this crap every year on the east coast/gluf coat. A CAT 1 storm will wreak havoc in SoCal, and they are nowhere NEAR BEING prepared for this.

Because CAs redwoods and other forest areas are gone, now, it's possible that many homes are now directly in the path of the storm. It can spawn tornados, so be careful, if near water. Tsunamis are definitely a great possibility.
Might be best to evacuate, if you can.

Even if this storm system doesn't hit California as a hurricane, people should still be prepared and in the know if they are in flood prone areas or at risk of landslides. This could turn into a storm that dumps a lot of rain at one time and thats dangerous for places like socal, Utah, Arizona that does not have the infrastructure to support massive rainfall at one time in certain areas.
Like others are pointing out, have an emergency bag and water ready to go, which you should ALWAYS have anyway regardless of where you live/what time of year it is. Keep a back back newr your bed or in the closet you can just grab and throw wallet, passports, in. Medicine, flashlight, first aid kit, a water bottle and a few dry snacks should already be in the bag so you can just grab it and go in an emergency. Know your evacuation routes to higher ground if you are in a potential flood zone.

I just stated months ago… that it’s going to be pretty crazy when (because it will happen) a natural disaster occurs. I had all the new people on my mind. And the ones who keep flooding the border! They are taking up asylum/shelters and hotels that when an earthquake/tornado/hurricane/flooding/ etc happens & people living in homes have to go higher up they won’t have spaces. Also if they do evacuate… where will all the homeless vets who were kicked out of their hotel rooms & all the others who were because of the seekers? People said (and I knew the fact) Hurricanes don’t happen in Cali. Now look! 😳 Also supplies seem to go to the seekers 1st! Hope for the best.
