I find it hard to believe that an otherwise simple upgrade on most other laptops I've had over the years would require such an invasive disassembly to add a few gigs of memory. Bummer!
So after watching your demonstration half a dozen times, I finally grew a pair and dug into the project. Just perfect. I'm now jammin' a little faster with a new stick of 8GB DDR3. I'm wondering if I would be able to put a new SSD storage drive in without having to buy a new copy of windows. Anyone know how I can do this? Thanks for this well done instructive video....
Всё поставил модуль PC3-12800S DDR3 на 8 Гб 1600MHZ. Память от известного производителя Hynix. Заказывал на AliExpress за 2350 рублей с доставкой. Определилась в моём ноутбуке Asus X501A с процессором Pentium B 970 2.30 Ghz без проблем. Правда пришлось повозиться с установкой, чтобы добраться до слота памяти. Но теперь это небо и земля. Мой уже довольно не новый ноутбук стал просто летать. А ещё заменил HDD на SDD и по сути получил довольно современный аппарат. Раньше явно ощущалось нехватка оперативной памяти. Заменой 2 Гб на 8 Гб полностью эту проблему решил. Для стоящего в ноутбуке жёсткого диска заказал корпус. Будет ещё внешний накопитель для резервной копии системы и прочего. Комментарий пишу для тех кто сомневается, что можно увеличить память больше 4 Гб, заявленных производителем. Всем удачи. Автору ролика огромное спасибо.
8 GB of ram (be sure to choose this variant because the default one in the link is the 4 GB) + SSD + Lubuntu 22.04.2 and the system is very fast! about 30 seconds for a complete boot and everything runs smoothly!

@@Pluggy_Gamer unfortunally the X501U has the ram soldered to the motherboard 😞but at least it comes with 4 GB of ram, still way better than the 2 GB on the older revisions, with an SSD you should still be able to use this laptop smoothly, especially for office and multimedia
@@sandomachera Ended up not doing it, though I don't think it would bring much change after lots of consideration. Just invest your money into a new laptop all together.
Затрудняюсь с ответом, т.к. во-первых не уверен в ограничениях по максимуму памяти на АМД процах, а вот вторых x501 с АМД не разбирал и есть вероятность, что слотов там нет (хотя я думаю, что так же как и в ноуте на видео должен быть 1 слот под ОЗУ).

@@howfixit А как убедиться в том, что все шлейфы, которые защелкиваются белой пластинкой, встали ровно на свои места? Я вставил все шлейфы, защелкнул пластинками, собрал ноутбук - он работает, все работает, но меня не покидает чувство, что я не все шлейфы вставил до упора

You'll need to buy a SSD and then clone your harddisk into the SSD. There are tools out there that help you do that. Check RUclips.

Вы абсолютно правы. Держу в руках материнку от X501U с амд. Дополнительных слотов нету. Только впаянная оперативная память
