Reacting to the legend, Tupac and his song Brenda's got a baby check's off a bucket list item for our channel. Showing Alexis the power of Pac's writing and talent in a song that he wrote when he was just 19 years old. A true generational talent that I was lucky enough be able to say I saw him from the beginning, all the way through the tragic end. Me and my wife always talk about we lived in the time of Tupac. One of my favorite artists of all time.

Wow. I am glad I stumbled onto your channel. May I ask how old you are sir? I grew up listening to a lot of the same music and it surprised me to see an older gentleman into rap. :) Born in 76 myself. Retired Vet. You got my sub this evening. Going to see what else you are into.
just came across your channel and what a perfect pac song to have her listen too, think thats the baby 2pac is carrying
It's based on a true story he read about a 12 year old girl, who was pregnant by her cousin and threw the baby in the dumpster. It happened more often than you think in the 80's.
just came across your channel...good stuff so far.
The song is about an article Tupac read while filming the movie Juice. About this situation. He's telling the story of the baby he's holding throughout the video (Brenda's Baby). Omar Epps (star of Juice) explains it in a recent interview.
2pac wrote that song after after reading the news paper article ab😢a girl who was pregnant with her cousin baby killed the baby
Tupac's inspiration for "Brenda's Got a Baby" came from a real-life news article he had read about a 12-year-old girl who became pregnant and tried to dispose of her baby by throwing it in a dumpster. The baby was found dead, and the young girl was eventually arrested and charged with murder. Tupac was deeply moved by this tragedy and felt compelled to tell the story of Brenda, a fictional character inspired by the real-life incident, through his music. The song addresses issues such as poverty, teenage pregnancy, and the struggles of young mothers in inner-city communities. It was released in 1991 and became one of Tupac's most well-known and critically acclaimed songs.
False the girl died she was killed the actual family tried suing pac but letter drop the LS.
cause he was bringing light to the ignored story
He read that on the set of juice, made a song of it and rapped it to omar epps, epps describes it on math hoffa
You got some of it wrong. The baby survived.
I've read the article and "Brenda's baby was rescued by two maintenance men. (By the way Brenda is not actually the girl's name)
But, In the same article it does talk about an earlier incident in which a woman strangled her newborn bab
Here us an exerp from that story
"In an earlier incident, the police found the body of a newborn boy, with his umbilical cord attached, stuffed into a plastic garbage bag
The infant’s mother, Debra Larrier, had given birth in her apartment at the project a few hours earlier, said Officer Fred Weiner, a police spokesman. He said Ms. Larrier developed complications from the birth and went to Kings County Hospital, leaving her son’s body in a garbage bag at the curb., he said.
At the hospital, doctors determined that she had just given birth. They notified the police, who searched her apartment and the bags of garbage piled in front of the project."
Ms. Larrier was arrested yesterday at 5 P.M. and charged with homicide. The Medical Examiner’s Officer determined that the infant had died of strangulation, the police said."

That’s what made 2pac so great! He started out writing poetry and also was very well read. 2pac loved Shakespeare and other great poets and writers.
Yes, he was a warrior poet.
@@flickeringboxofficial UNLV Running Rebel Logo on Tupac's Hat ✌🏾
Way ahead of his time!! I can only imagine what he'd be writing now. He basically predicted the future...listen to 'Changes' . Mahalo 🌺
he did gangster rap at the end..not talking good about women@@jaiarayne
that line"just cause your in the ghetto doesnt mean you cant grow" eventually becomes his poetry " a rose that grew from concrete"
And that is a must read for any collection. I have a funny story about Pac's book when it came out and the radio station where I worked at that time. Maybe I will do a quick story time on a short. Thank you dwood
@@flickeringboxofficial do it!!! I mean plss 😂
It amazes me how little young people know about the oldies. I’m 26 and my pops would blast Hendrix, Pac, The Police, Eagles, etc. im super thankful
That is a heck of a list Joe, right up my alley. I will ad Hey Joe to her list to do.
Can’t go wrong with any of those even The police song was sampled by Puff Daddy with 112 and Faith Evens I’ll be missing you
I play all of them for my kids all the time. Including Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, etc..
Your pops is awesome...respect!
try to do the same once you have kids to keep the real music alive.
This was actually a true story. It impacted Pac so much he wrote the song. You will hear Pac rap about a couple slain kids like Latosha Harlan and Robert "Yummy" Sandifer. More Pac reactions please lol.
I have a lot more Pac on the list, so much to choose from.
@@flickeringboxofficial This song came from his first solo album "2Pacalypse Now", released in 1992.
@@flickeringboxofficial I've actually read the article that Tupac based this song off and there are some details that Pac changed. For example in the song It says that Brenda didn't really know her mom and that her dad was a junior. but actually her parents were killed in a house fire.
I've want ahead and put some exerts from the Times news article next to Pac's lyrics
Times: “A newborn baby was rescued from a trash compactor in Brooklyn yesterday morning when two maintenance men heard the baby’s cries just as they were about to start the crushing machine’s motors, the police said.”
Pac: “She didn’t know, what to throw away and what to keep/ She wrapped the baby up and threw him in a trash heap/ I guess she thought she’d get away, wouldn’t hear the cries/ She didn’t realize how much the the little baby had her eyes…”
***
Times: Lieutenant Albright said the 12-year-old lived with two brothers and Mrs. Perry. Although Mrs. Perry told the police that the teenager was her daughter, investigators said last night that it was unclear what their relationship is.
Pac: “Now Brenda never really knew her moms…”
Times: “She is not admitting who the father is or that she even had sex,” Lieut. Eugene Albright said. She would also not say why she tried to dispose of the baby, he said.
Pac: “Brenda got herself a boyfriend/ Her boyfriend was her cousin, now let’s watch the joy end…” and “She’s twelve years old and she’s having a baby/ In love with a molester, who’s sexing her crazy/ And yet and she thinks that he’ll be with her forever/ And dreams of a world where the two of them are together, whatever…”
Times: “None of the neighbors seemed to be aware that the teenager was pregnant.”
Pac: “She tried to hide her pregnancy, from her family/ Who didn’t really care to see, or give a damn if she/ Went out and had a church of kids/ As long as when the check came they got first dibs…”

Won't spoil it in the comments but Your theory on this song gave me the chills. Great reaction and breakdown!
Awe, thank you Manmanopoly...that actually means a lot to me.
Pac mom was a black panther who was released from prison some odd years ago.
@@thedugout5192 I meant his mother in context of the song not his Irl mother Afeni Shakur
Tupac taking the baby away in my view was him showing that the baby was now the responsibility of the community. Like he was saying in the first verse. He plays the role of the community as a whole watching this all play out and it ultimately being the community’s responsibility to their own members.
Pac is the best story teller in any genre in my humble opinion
Loved your reaction much love new sub all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦❤️❤️

Random Fact: On the set of the film "Juice", during downtime 2Pac read about this story from the newspapers and decided to write this classic song. 👑
If you think about that for a moment, a 19 year old sees a story in the paper and writes one of the most powerful and timeless songs of any genre. Thank you Y Drew
Juice was a good movie.
@@flickeringboxofficial Pac is my favorite MC. It's only fitting to tell his story.
I grew up on rappers that held a mirror to society and even themselves..fire ❤
This song was amazing and heartbreaking story about young girl who was pregnant and society didn't help her. Tupac has made huge impact on youth people who need support and love. RIP 2PAC
This was a true story..Tupac saw this on the news and wanted Washington to step up tougher penalties for molesters..and parents who don’t watch their kids..cause it’s almost like they knew it was happening and did nothing to protect her..the mother died but the child became a ward of the state and someone raised her
Such a sad story Shantal. It's hard to wrap your head around a 19 year old being so socially conscious and brave. I was such a huge fan back then, we are roughly the same age, but now that I am older I am even more in awe.

This is how I feel exactly. I've always said that Tupac is my favorite rapper because he wasn't afraid to show all sides of being human. We get California Love, but we also get Dear Mama. We get I get around, but we also get Brenda had a baby. He was so amazing. Beautiful mind, tortured soul.
@@sanchisan6997 Pac is so under appreciated to me atleast, its like people dont see what he was trying to do and say, its so much more than just music.
That part, "I grew up on rappers that held a mirror to society and to them selfs"
This is one of the deepest songs ever written and easily one of the top 5 best songs ever written. And by a 19 year old black male in the early 90s. Most 19 year old black males we not even thinking about this stuff let alone writing about it!
2Pac would be a good rabbit hole to go down. Listen to Dear Mama. Pac was raised by his single mother.
Oh yea, there are so many Rob and that is defiantly on the list. It's funny, this one is one that won't do a lot of views but it doesn't matter. I just wanted to do it on a personal level. I was a fan of his back then and still I am in awe of him and his intellect.

And not to mention he was only 19 when he did Brenda’s got a baby
This song was based on a true story. He heard this story on the news or read it in a paper and was inspired to write this song
Not many rappers were able to tell a riveting story in a song like Tupac. True brilliance….
In my opinion, his early works were the most introspective and motivational version of Tupac. As for the line about being from the ghetto not impacting a persons growth, it's a positive and aspirational interpretation but it's idealistic to translate it to mean that environment and conditions do not impact an individuals success. I think Tupac was saying don't limit yourself. St the same time everyone knows that environment is important. It's like throwing grass seeds in barren, polluted fields then expecting them to grow at the same rate and brilliance as a watered, fertilized field. Some grass will sprout in the worst conditions but don't confuse the exception for the rule.
Well stated E Julien
Loved his first and second album wasn’t to commercial until I get around and homies call came out but my personal favorite was Dear mama and underpressure and me against the world
You need to get more in tune with his later work. Especially the unreleased original music.

Good on you for passing on the music. I lean more metal, but this era of rap growing up I loved too.

I have not heard of a newborn in the trash in awhile, which is good but I am sure that it still happens. I use to hear it on the news every once in awhile that this would happen. The one I remember the most, was a newborn was found in the trash at the college I attended in the first year. I would imagine that the mother was a bit older than 12 years old but still does not matter. A child not knowing what to do, and having a child. Could have even been from the high school. Was found outside in the back of the building. I am not sure they ever said if they found the mother or not, never heard. This was a very small town too. Lots of things happened, that if you were not there you would never know. This was long before social media.
I think it happens less now but then again we had one here in Florida last year. Sad to think, how many go unreported or not noticed? Heartbreaking
He wasn’t describing his own life. He was telling the story of a real life situation that had happened
I am sorry I didn't clarify enough during the video when I said, "in the story line, not in real life". I only meant in the context of the video story and the character he (Pac) was playing in the video, not Tupac's real life story.

Pac was my favorite growing up, I was 6 when he got killed but his music always spoke to my soul. I miss when mainstream hip-hop had a message behind it and wasn't just sex & murder.
If you notice there are *NO Curse Words* in this song, you'll find the same with *(Dear Mama) & (Keep Your Head Up)* Etc.
and your point is?

This song was based on a true story. It’s not about him. It’s about a girl from his town and was in the papers and he made a song about it.
The video was shot in the alley across the street from the housing projects I grew up in. Location: Downtown Oakland. On Harrison St between 12th and 13th street. E40 also shot his "Things Will Never Change" MV in the same alley. In the background you see my boy's dad on the balcony lol. True story. Tupac fan forever. Miss you. RIP.
I love his theory about Tupac being the baby in the music video and tracing the steps and seeing where the mom gave birth and where she died and etc etc ,I’ve heard this song sense I was 13 years old and I’m 24 now and it gave me a whole new perspective which is super dope , absolutely love the theory 💯💯
No, 2pac is not the baby in this story. The director said 2pac is the embodiment of this particular black community having to take on another mouth to feed with the odds heavily stacked against him/her in life. 2pac symbolizes the entire neighborhood, basically. This is why he was shown at both the baby's birthing site and Brenda's murder scene- he witnessed all of it from beginning to end because all of it happened in his neighborhood.
Haven't you ever heard incarcerated Crips and Blood members say they were raised on the streets? Thus, 2pac was the personification of this black community overall.. It was done to illustrate more strain being added onto an already weak structure that can't take much more. It's a repeating loop of failure in the black community- the lost causes are only creating more lost causes in a cycle that is never broken. 2pac walks off with the baby at the end to symbolize another child being left to getting raised on the streets
They tried so hard to make PAC look bad in the media. But the music never lies he told poetic stories in his music. It’s great to see people passing good music on to generations! ❤❤❤❤
The UNLV runnin REBELS is what’s on Pacs beanie.
He said it best I grew up on rappers that held a mirror to society
And now the baby is alone. That's how it effects the whole community. It's the cycle of despair
So much hurt we face in the inner city everybody isn't the same when it comes to emotions some get angry at everything n some stay humble but the pain is real going 400 years now
It is
7:57 my favorite two perspectives song he did is called “Soulja story” from the “2pacalypes now” album
Unsure if anyone has answered...but the beanie is UNLV Runnin' Rebels.
Nice theory..never heard that one. Mine, after hearing he'd read about it, was that it was him trying to catch up to help before it's too late but didn't make it in time.
Never saw that. Now I will have to watch it again with that premise in mind and see how it impacts me then. Very cool, thank you for that.
If you pay attention to the video you can see that from the time 2pac sees her walking in the beginning to the point where he sees her body is a span of a few minutes.
That's why he's shocked because he just seen her alive and now she's not.
First 2pac was a poetic genius!! 2nd it's awesome to see your reaction father daughter :)
It’s a true story from his hometown from Baltimore. Great theory though!
The baby ended up graduating top of her class.
The moment I knew that he is a GENUINE fan is when he called him Pac
Beanie is UNLV Running Rebels mascot
What she's not getting is tupac telling s story pre dawn when so many issues like this were not talked about brilliant like the man said
You can sense the young mother trying to process the trauma Brenda has gone through and almost in disbelief trying to understand how could this happen to such a young girl. Dam
Yep...like its a whole nother world that she cant fathom exists...trauma is real in the black community and it crosses many lines...some not familiar with the plight of black ppl minimize our struggles then suggest that we "pull ourselves up by our boot straps" ...glad her father is educating her....
This song was based off a story he read in a newspaper. To me it’s Tupac reading the newspaper at the end
The reason for all the jewelry was because as I mentioned earlier, he was homeless a few years before he did this song. So it was a celebratory thing for him to have all that jewelry. Plus it was a hip hop thing to do😂
