[Quick Info]
The (5) serves express along the Lexington Avenue Line and runs between Dyre Avenue in Eastchester, The Bronx (with some trains from Nereid Avenue in Wakefield) to Flatbush Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
FUN FACT:
The (5) the only line to have multiple terminals!
The equipment the line uses currently are mainly Bombardier R-142. The line is based out of Unionport and 239th Street Yard.

If that were the case, then it would be on the 2 as well as any NTT car that is assigned to either line (and we are talking about a permanent assignment, NOT A LOAN) MUST HAVE THE COMBINED 2/5 STRIP MAPS. The days of individual strip maps showing only the 2 or the 5 are OVER!!!

One day on a Thursday morning in manhattan, the Lexington avenue line got fucked up for some reason.
The result was Bronx bound (5) Trains on the Local Track going through The Lexington Avenue line like a true boss

I agree, when the 5 trains on weekends is reduced from 12 to 20 minutes is annoying. I know they do this when 5 trains share tracks with the 4 and 6 lines during construction. The 2 line which is important line on the IRT division gets reduced from 8 to 12 minutes when sharing tracks with the 1 and 3 lines during construction. I can't understand why adjustments is not made to 4 or 6 lines instead of having the 5 line run every 20 minutes.

I agree, R62As should have been on the 2, 5, and 7 when the Redbirds went bye bye, R142s should have went to the 1 and 6, R62s would be on the 3 which they are, and R142As should have went to the 4, I guess the MTA really does run a straight up Mickey Mouse operation when it comes to swapping railcars between lines!!

Well, I have a bridge to sell you, because if you put R62As on the 2/5, reliability on the entire IRT will WORSEN.
@@TheRailLeaguer The N/W share the same terminal and they both run a few r68as, so the 2/5 can at least have a few r62a sets.
Raye Waddell the N/W are different because of slightly lower frequency. Any small delay won’t cause a problem with other lines. They also share a trunk line through Manhattan, so the rollsigns is not a problem for them.
For the 2/5, that’s different. Not only do they have a different trunk path in Manhattan, but as a daily user of the Flatbush Avenue station, I can tell you that they switch signs VERY FREQUENTLY. Scrolling through the rollsigns is PAINFULLY LONG. Any one small delay with the rollsigns switching can not only delays 2 and 5 train service, but also cause a ripple effect on the entire IRT Eastern Pkwy Line, and potentially, the entire IRT main line. Do you use the 2/5 lines south of Franklin Avenue to Flatbush Avenue every day like I do to realize this?

The 4 and 5 train Must Use R62As With led And The 6 train use R142As and left over R142s from the 4 and 5 trains
TheSpongebobFlow First, the 4 and 5 need those R142/As to handle the crowd. Also, if you put R62As on the 5, it will affect operations on the entire 2/5 lines.
Therefore, the R142As will NOT go to the 6, and R62As will NOT go to the 2/5 and 4.

But about the 5 going down Lexington during the late night, why can’t they just cut 6 service up to 125 street, keep the 4 as the local and the 5 as the express to Grand Central, and have the 4 take over the rest of Lexington and into Brooklyn? That would be smart.
Anthony Ronacher Not really. It would be more wise to to have both the 4 and 6 go local during late nights and late night 5 service should be extended from East 180th Street and 149th Street-Grand Concourse.

@@TheRailLeaguer The N/W have to deal with the same thing at Ditmars Blvd terminal with the r68as, so why not try it with the 2/5? Life is all about taking risk.

The 2/5 is a TOTALLY different story. They use DIFFERENT Trunk lines in Manhattan and are very frequent services, unlike the N/W. In addition, unlike the N/W, the 2/5 crews switch the signs VERY FREQUENTLY, and scrolling through the rollsigns to change between a 2/5 is PAINFULLY LONG. Put any amount of R62 or R62A on the 2/5 during he weekdays, and you just created a possibility of DELAYS ON THE ENTIRE IRT MAIN LINE.
