We use a small rivetted decal on our equipment which we remove after the rental has come to an end and goes to auction . We clean and as rust prevention we use rape seed oil on the bare metal . If something needs to be painted it will be for the person who buys and they are mostly dealers in used second hand equipment .

Give em a break Mike. The primary purpose of paint is to protect what is underneath from the elements. Repainting equipment is a sound practice to renew the protection from sitting out in the weather. Any farmer worth his salt should be able to evaluate used equipment despite the repainting...

I was an ag lender for nearly 50 years. Early on in my career a customer came in to do his annual financial statement and we went through machinery purchases and improvements during the past year. He told me he had bought 2 used Farmall 806 Diesel tractors for $3000 each, which was about half of the market for used 806 Diesels. I asked how he got them so cheap. He told me he bought them at a consignment auction (with a reputation for handling lots of really tough machinery) and then completely overhauled them. He said if I go the local dealers I might get a nice looking tractor with fresh paint, but I don't really know how good they are inside and they want about $6000 for the ones they have. Now I now exactly what I have and I have about $6000 invested in the tractor and the overhaul work. This was in the early 1970's so keep that in mind as you look at the numbers.

I wont buy that kind of machine, like you said cant trust at all what it is. I want to see it like it came from field, it doesnt matter if it is a bit dirty or dusty etc. It is better that way, then you see every hydraulic leak/bearing "leak" and wearpoints etc.

I 100% agree with what you said. Like why make something look new when it’s far from it?? Not to mention doing a quick spray paint job like that! Do dealers think that we’re all to stupid and blind to tell the difference!? Not to mention that they are so horribly over priced (and I’m a deere guy!) and apparently a combine that’s a year old with 180 separator hours on it, is worth 350 to 400,000 dollars less than new!! That’s almost half the price of new! Like what the hell!! We all need to go over everything we look at with a fine tooth comb because of this! i work for a big equipment rental company, we touch up every unit that comes back for one reason, to see how the customer is treating the equipment. if we rent a forklift and it comes back beat to hell, we know they were rough with it and will give it a second look. ;most of the time customer just ends up buying panels and labor for paint. sometimes they end up paying thousands for the damage they have done. had a 10k telehandler come back with a huge amount of scratches so the mechanic decided to look further and found a gouge in the oil pan that was slowly leaking. customer ended up paying to have the engine pulled and pan replaced, probably would of cost another company 20k for an engine replacement for damage that they didnt do.

I took the sticker off when I got home. The sticker wasn't on it when we looked at it so it had just been put on when we picked it up. The next time it was at the dealer for whatever reason another sticker was put on. I took it off. We knew the service manager and told him we didn't want their sticker on it. Next time we had a sticker on it from their other store, Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth.

You should start slapping Faith Hope Farms stickers on their service and sales trucks. Hahaha You advertise for them they should return the favour hahahaha. Had a good chuckle at the fresh paint on a bent feeder chain and dented drum.
