I asked a Mennonite guy what the deal was with people having a bunch of junk in their yard and he told me that it was an odd consequence of Appalachia. I never forgot that response. The Mennonite guy did a bunch of work for me and he lived in a beautiful house that was very neat. Right next door to him in the woods was the biggest nastiest mess you ever saw in your life. I bought a property nearby and I have found trash laying all over the 46 acres it represents. It is as if nature is their trash bin. This is a big problem here in rural Ohio. As you could imagine, the people responsible for the mess look the part. I have most of the mess cleaned up, but it has caused a lot of extra work on top of building and landscaping. I have neighbors with the same exact problem and they universally shake their head.
