  • Johnny Depp recalls how he felt when he received the news he would no longer be a part of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise. During his ongoing defamation trial against Amber Heard, the actor shares that he hoped the Disney films would have had a chance to have a proper goodbye for his character, Captain Jack Sparrow. Depp also includes that if it were his choice, he would have stayed until the end.

    " Guilty until proven innocent " is such a powerful summary of the concept of trial of public opinion. I hope Mr. Depp finally received justice.

      that's how it is with the innocents while the guilty folks are innocent until proven guilty.

      @@baan3197 This may be the case. But honestly you shouldn't stamp it on the face of "innocent or guilty" for this is all based on the prejudice of humans toward other. And this is much stronger if a group of humans band together. Overall, this is about the prejudice of the majority of people and how to neutralize it. This isn't a case of since your a male or innocent, you're guilty until proven innocent but the prejudice of a group of people stamping the status of one person and in the process being damaged by the accusations despite not being proven.

      Its the double standard thing.. if people never heard JD and AH.. JD saying AH abuse him wont be believable as the other way..

    • @mathewsibonga8669
      @mathewsibonga8669 2 года назад

      @Kerra Neels It's stronger than ever due to how easy it is to spread information nowadays. It's much easier to make someone look bad compared to the other way around. Cause humans tend to hate perfection and in a sense being good is a form of perfection. Humans tend to be evil you know. Of course this isn't the case to everyone but in the end it's easier to spread hate than love.

    • @jones81381
      @jones81381 2 года назад

      Yes, but unfortunately it kind of has to be that way because otherwise victims would never get any justice because for so long, and it still happens today but not as much, real victims are written off as just trying to hurt their abuser and their claims are dismissed as lies, especially in cases involving famous or wealthy people because then the victim's claims are written off as just them seeking money or a spotlight. We have to take accusers word from the start until such time as they are proven to have lied because if we don't, actual abusers will not see one shred of accountability for their actions. Sometimes an innocent man gets dragged through hell by a liar, and as awful as that is for the innocent man, that's still preferable to a 100 guilty men going completely free because no one believed their victim.

    • @custer3176

      @jones81381 In human rights, there is a presumption of innocence and the burden of providing compelling evidence is always on the prosecutor. (UN's universal declaration of human rights, Article 11) Everything you said was fucking wrong. Victim's claims aren't written off as lies, if there is evidence for it. We don't have to take accuser's word from the start we find evidence for their claims and actual abusers will see accountability for the actions they have done. The situation is actually quite opposite than what you described. Sometimes a guilty man goes completely free due to the lack of evidence but it's preferable to 100 innocent men getting their life ruined by a liar.

      You can listen to accusers and have trust in their words, but that doesn't mean you should immediately condemn the accused and drag them through hell. There is a very good reason why the concept of innocent until proven guilty exists. That is real justice. Assuming that people are guilty based on accusations until they are proven not to, is not justice.

    A few years ago I was summoned for jury duty. During the selection process one of the attorneys said something that's stuck with me. He said we shouldn't say "innocent until proven guilty" because the word 'until' subtly creates a sense of inevitability. As if to say "you're guilty, we just haven't proven it YET." He suggested we really should be saying "UNLESS proven guilty" because then it becomes an if/then question, rather than a question of when.
    In my experience, there has often been a strong bias in the court system and the court of public opinion that women are innocent unless proven HORRIFICALLY guilty, whereas men are innocent until someone decides some woman has cried enough on camera.
    Stay the course, Johnny. Nail that bitch to the wall and make her squirm.

    As a guy who’s had to deal with false accusations from women in the past, this case hits me hard.
    Back in middle school I was accused of sexually assaulting another girl and I STG people don’t grow up because the response to Depp was the same response literal MIDDLE SCHOOL KIDS had to my accusation. They all believed the crying girl over me. Luckily the girl had nothing to actually “prove” anything and I had witnesses (parents) who could tell exactly what happened at the time she claimed I did it. So she dropped it.
    Then a few years later during my sophomore year of high school I was accused of stalking a girl I was friends with and threatening her friends (I literally never leave my house except to hang out with friends and I had been to her house multiple times and had went out with her on Halloween so there was no reason I’d have to stalk anyway). Only reason this caused nothing to happen was because she had apparently falsely accused people before. She blocked me, I blocked her, we moved on.
    It’s absolutely terrifying to think about the fact that if I hadn’t been VERY lucky about the pasts of those girls and the proof I had to show I did nothing wrong, as well as our ages to stop them from taking it to far, that my entire life could have been screwed over. Nowadays I am very cautious about girls and find it hard to believe that any of them could actually be my friend or more. I’m currently dating a girl that I’ve been with for 3 months. When we first got together I was terrified that the same thing was going to happen again and was VERY cautious. Slowly I started opening up more and I’m decently comfortable with her now.
    It’s sad that a man is guilty until proven innocent in our world. Depp’s case really shines a light on that and I’m glad. I hope this case changes the current norms. Everyone should be innocent until proven guilty regardless of gender, race, religion, etc

      I once helped a drunk girl out at a party, when I walked in on 3 douches about to seriously molest her. I won't go into detail, bit they had basically already started on her. She was a minor. Well, we all were. I was disgusted that my "buddies" were actually going to take advantage of this girl, whom I knew. She was totally out of it, but not enough to not know she didn't want it, as I witnessed her trying to push them off when I walked in. I just stood in shock. One of them looked at me, and said something along the lines of, "You gonna join us?"
      I told them that they were pieces of shit, and I pulled her up. They got angry, but they didn't stop me. I pulled her clothes up amd over her, and pretty much carried her out. She could hardly walk. We were far out of the city, in an abandoned country house. We walked through the wooded area, along a dirt road. I wanted to get her away from there. Suddenly, one of her friends comes running up, and slaps me hard around the face, and grabs her off me. I mean, I was a bit drunk too, but that slap was hard enough to make me reel. I real slap full of hate. She told me to get the fuck away from her. I tried explaining what I was doing with her, and what had happened. She was having none of it. I didn't go back to the party. I just left another way home, through the woods. It became clear by the end of the next week, that the guys who had tried to rape her, had said that I had been the one, and that they stopped me from doing it, but I left to finish the deed in the woods. I got the shit kicked out of me by her older cousin. He was a big guy of 20. I was 14. He repeatedly kicked me with steel toe capped boots. I managed to run and hide from him. My face was a mess, and it was swelled for over a week.
      The girl who I helped couldn't remember anything, so no help there. She believed the "official" story. Anyway, after a couple of weeks of being branded a piece of shit, one of the guys who had really done it spilled the beans to somebody else. The truth got around, and eventually my name got cleared. I didn't care at that point. I'd already lost friends, and even started skipping school at that point.
      It is horrible when you do the right thing, have done nothing wrong, but then the whole world to hates you for it because of lies.
      Even after the truth came out, nobody apologized. Not even her. Nobody commended me. Life just went on. I don't regret helping her, and would do it again. I have a daughter now, and I hope she has more sense, or at least that there will be someone like me at the party.

      You're not alone, I was accused of trying to rape my best friend in highschool who I took care of for over a year, putting every single one of her needs above my own. Her parents found out that they couldn't control me aka tell me what to do when I knew it was wrong, and they gaslighted her until she believed them. Everyone at school avoided me, I got random texts cussing me out, and was harassed by countless people. I can't count how many times I talked that friend out of commiting suicide, or how often I risked my very sanity to make sure she was ok. After about a year it all started to fade and I was about to graduate, until one of her friends accused me of stalking her. Despite a restraining order which was then dismissed in civil court in my favor, it was then pushed to criminal charges, 20k dollars later I was forced into a plea deal so I didn't have to pay another 10k so I could clear my name. She walked away with no consequences and I even had evidence showing she was lying about everything. When a woman accuses a man, it's guilty. There is no innocent, not truly. The man is guilty and he will pay, he will pay the price for taking care of someone.

    I believe that there needs to be more of a push to support and encourage victims of domestic abuse-- training in police to encourage testimony not question and humiliate victims, a push in society to accept and back up victims when they come forward regardless of gender or social standing. But that doesn't mean 'guilty until proven innocent'. Listening to and believing in victims shouldn't mean the other party is guilty, it should mean "this is a legitimate concern, we're going to do everything we can to investigate it."
    And false accusations of abuse and assalt should be punishable by extended jail time and fines. It is not okay that one person can destroy another's life and not face any real consequences.

This cost Mr. Depp and Disney millions of dollars, children could not enjoy another film of their hero pirate, toys and costumes could not be sold or played with. Amber’s accusations may have cost Mr. Depp other movies/ theatre/ product representation jobs as well. That is why the cost of the case is fifty million. The actual cost to Mr. Depp’s reputation may be much more. He is not only filing for the physical and mental damage he sufferers. My grandchildren and I love the Jack Sparrow series, every Halloween we were pirates together. Johnny Depp dressed as Jack Sparrow and visited children facing tragic illness. “Guilty until proven innocent” is how it is in America. I once got in a car accident after falling asleep at the wheel and was charged with a dui, In the hospital they found I had a 0.00 BAC. My insurance skyrocketed just for being charged with that and I did a month in jail while waiting for a court date to determine if I was guilty. Worst part is I couldn’t afford a private attorney so the free court appointed attorney told me I could go back to jail while fighting it or take a CWAF. I was young and hated jail so I took the “Continued without a finding” and my insurance took years to return to normal. I never drove drunk that night and my BAC was proof of that yet they still took a month of my life and made me pay an extortionate amount of money to have car insurance. That’s when I realized how corrupt the justice system is.
