Good info. Between the self leveler and the very thick tile that I used in the master bath, I was wondering how to make the carpet to tile transition look right. Carpet shims. I learned something new today.

Thanks for doing this. I have existing carpet coming into a bathroom doorway. I put a Dricore subfloor in the bathroom so it is elevated more than the carpet. This really helps me visualize how to finish it off. Great channel. Your efforts are appreciated.

Wow, very well done. Just had some carpet installed and I asked about a transition to our bathroom like that. Installer just said there's not much he can do about the lip since it was higher than normal and left the job like that. Now we have a tripping hazard and it's very uncomfortable to walk over. I'm going to have them come back and fix it with a carpet shim. Great informative video. Thank you.

Great video. It would have helped to see a view of the tile edge before the carpet shim install, but it was still full of great straight forward information.

Thanks a bunch for making this video, I can see you do excellent work, with attention to detail. Our remodel contractor put in a new tile bathroom floor with a 3/8 underlayment, which brought the floors up from the original height, needless to say I am less than thrilled about the transition now from carpet to tile. I was wondering if someone made a shim/ramp and now I know. I will go back to the contractor and let them know this is the solution. Thanks for the great info.

cedar shakes can work too in a pinch. can also round edges
I always use vinyl scraps build up a ramp to tile. cut the first one about 8 inches second one about 4 in and the last layer about 2 inches. kind of stair stepping it up.

👍🏻 have you ever seen same type shims but in rubber? I’ve used em all. Years back I even used the single packs, where it took 2 1/2- 3 packs to do a 32 inch door. I also use tri tack tackstrip on bottom and regular tackstrip on top but it’s not as smooth of transition on some carpets. Well done.

I literally just did that. Used a pinned track and T cap. That's pretty though.

In this situation with raised tile, is it best to just leave the tile edge or would adding a Schluter metal edge be better to butt the carpet up against? Or would either way be fine?
Can you do the tuck and glue trick with low pile carpet like Anderson Tuftex? I'm worried about having enough pile to cover the gap.
Absolutely, I even do it on thin commercial carpet. You can use latex in the gully any time.
I'm thinking of getting a pair of those crain tack strip cutters they look really cool but are a bit expensive, be awesome if you could do a short video on them and why you use them. Thanks

That’s going to depend on the carpet, most the time a quarter inch may even A little less. Depends on the thickness of the carpet

If you cut it way short with the trimmer trimax stretcher will fix it lol

How much are carpet shims? Like 20 for 3-5 pieces. We have always used tack strip method
Christian Wilson Honestly I don’t know, I put a link in the description for some but I have never used them from Amazon before, I think that tools for Flooring has some, I don’t really bad about checking the prices for stuff, I usually just get stuff if I need it without looking at the price , My wife gets onto me about that too
Christian Wilson when I was in Tucson I would charge the customer $15 per shim and that would cover the cost of the shim plus a few dollars to put it down, And I was actually thinking about doing a couple more different methods of this same thing such as double tack strip and so on
Christian Wilson Tools for Flooring Has a big variety of them ranging from $3.80 up to like $10 apiece, depending on what size you get, I’m glad you asked that because I didn’t know there was such a variety of them out there
I have always double tack strip in front of tile and put single tack behind the double tack. Pad on top the first tackstrip to the double. Looks the same

So double tack strip in front of the tile and then put another tack strip on top of the pad right next to?
Carpet shims are great if the store charges for them. I'm not providing carpet shims on all these jobs with raised tiles. It's not my floor.
How far from the edge of the tile should the tack strip be?
About 3/16 of an inch

Should of at least mini power stretched the passage. It's a traffic way.
It was enough to last, this was in my own house and it is still nice and wrinkle free , Thank you though it is definitely a good idea to always get a power stretch On hallways
Those are a waste of money. Use vinyl scraps. 1 2" piece . overlap a 4" piece over lap a 6" piece. tackstrip with z-bar. there you are built up 1/4 inch. use two thick vinyl pieces for 2" and the 4" use a thinner piece for the last one. You figure this out its faster, its cheaper. You can fine tune the crap out of it. Vinyl scraps are valuable where I work.
