I am literally mind-blown about how I did not know that this lighting technique exists. I just realized that I haven't fully explored Photoshop so much despite knowing how to use it in the past four years. Everyday I learn something new about Photoshop haha. Thanks for this!
I woke up this morning and found your email with this tutorial. It was weird cuz the other day I was working on a pic and was thinking about this tool but I could not remember where it was. Then here is the tutorial. It was perfect. I hope you do the followup so I can learn more new stuff. Thanks so much for this.
Yep, this was new to me in PS. Great way to create or change atmosphere of images. Custom texture channel - yes, definitely interested in learning about that!
Typically I would do this sort of thing using exposure adjustment layers and masks to get more control but this is definitely a super quick way to achieve some nice lightening effects! I actually never knew about this feature within PS so might try it out on future edits, could be a time saver in some cases!
Really interesting tutorial, thansk Colin! I'd never used this effect before, but I do use a lot of radial filters in LR for 'relighting' images. This gives so much more control - mindblowing stuff!
This is exactly what I have been looking for for a long long time. Thank you very much Colin. More stuff on Studio lighting effects please please please...
LOL!!!! I've been doing this is video editing and after effects, etc. for years and kept wondering why it wasn't available in Photoshop!!! IT WAS AND I NEVER KNEW IT!!!!!! Me too. Just saw this and loved the tutorial and how simple your explanation was. I saw this tool a few weeks ago but was so pressed for time I didn’t want to fuss with it; now I want to start playing around with it.
