Bielsa isn't a manager who will win lots of trophies. He does weird and wacky things that often sabotage himself. But he has the balls to try something new and lots of the top managers watch him try things out before they do it. Talk to most spanish or south american coaches and they will all have something to say about his tactics. They may call him crazy, but Bielsa made them think more deeply. Without him, football wouldn't develop as fast as it does.
alex kanyima HE IS, HIS INFLUENCE ON OTHER MANAGERS IS REVOLUTIONARY, THATS SOMEONE THAT CARES ABOUT FOOTBALL THAN FAME OR MONEY....FOOTBALL WAS NEVER ABOUT MONEY OR FAME OR TROPHIES BUT ENJOYING YOURSELF, HE ALREADY A LEGEND CUZ OF HOW REVOLUTIONARY HE IS.
How does football develop 'fast'? It's one of the slowest adapting and introverted sports around, only to act like one is a genius if a coach looks outside those boundaries, like Southgat
Bielsa got Chile, an average national time until then, to the second place of the south american WC qualifiers, probably the hardest of them all! Quite an achievement! And his teams, when adapted to his coaching, are pure adrenaline! A joy to watch! Totally underrated because he truly deserved to coach one of the biggest teams in the world. At this age probably he wont do that
I first started paying attention to Bielsa after he won against Man Utd with Bilbao in Europa League. I saw the game on Old Trafford and my God I can't remember last time I saw a team press with that level of intensity. It was absolutely ridiculous!
I remember that game, they made us look so ordinary. If they were good at finishing they could have scored 8 goals each leg. They created chances after chances
Great channel. An updated video on Bielsa’s Leeds United is much needed. Took a squad that finished on relegation form to league challengers in one of the most physical leagues in Europe. I’ve never enjoyed watching a championship team so much.
He certainly isn´t underrated here in Chile. Most people credit him as changing the thinking in the national team , which has been responsible for recent successes.
Unrrated? The praise of Bielsa doesn't match his achievements. He is overrated, he said it himself while was going down in the french league table from 1st to 5th en 3 months w/OM. He even said his methods don't work at long term and the media did boost his ego. Srsly.
Bielsa is the master of the pressing style. The high intensity press from Bielsa has inspired countless managers like pochetino, Simeone, Guardiola, Sampaoli, etc. Football needs people like Bielsa.
a brief of history would be cool, too. 44 years is a long time. he started when the Berlin wall was build, he finished his carrer 1 year before reunified Germany had the world Cup in 06. maybe its just me but as a german, i think this is amazing!! he also played for auxerre. de facto he been there from 1952-2005
One of the most influential coaches of our era. He alone is the only coach who still receives apologetic letters by his “disciples” for failing to implement his system correctly. He gave the nation of Chile an identity and it came to fruition when they won the two Copa Americas with Sampaoli. And let’s not forget what Bielsa’s Bilbao did to Ferguson’s United in the Europa League. We would not have Guardiola, Pochettino, Sampaoli, etc. without this crazy genius tactician. One of his famous quotes best describes him “We defend by attacking.” He definitely let them “hang” on the pitch.
He is rumoured to be taking over the vacant manager position of my club Leeds, can anyone reply who knows a lot about him if he would be a good appointment and if he could get us into the premier league?
True, let's be honest anything is an improvement on Heckingbottom. I have heard he is a serial loser but that being he hasn't been able to win the Europa League final, Copa Del Rey final and the World Cup so I think the championship is easier to do well in than them competitions. Hopefully we give him some time to do his own thing and allow him free rein
He is a great manager. But in order for him to perform at his best, he needs total control. That's why he is very careful at choosing the teams that will allowe him to work without team managment or famous players getting in the way. I think this is the reason behind his failure with Argentina during the first round of 2002 world cup.
Absolutely loved it! I was the only one requesting for it for almost 2 months now. Finally it's here. Yes, a small tactical video won't do justice to him. So please, I am waiting for a Whiteboard Extra - Podcast dedicated to this. Please explain the "Enganche" role in detail. Also how does he get to have 7 players to defend when they don't have the possession and 6 players in attack while they DO have the ball. Also, why isn't he as successful as many other coaches who actually took inspiration from his ideas and philosophy? What's missing? Thanks, in advance.
The Regista has too much positional freedom. He'll move into space similar to the Engache in attack. even with hold position he'll still allow too much space in behind him. It's a supremely difficult formation to make work, I got it to work at A.C Milan by using a Libero in place of the holding mid. Which gave me enough defensive stability and the DLP I needed to move the ball correctly. As far as FM goes I feel like the game has it as best as you'll get. In defense the system is a 5-1-3-1 and in transition it morphs out into a 3--3-1-3... kinda. Maybe this year we'll get more tools to make this kinda system work better.
MYNAMEISMYNAME I was doing it in 08/09 save, then with his Athletic side. 3 CB. 4 MF, effectively a wide diamond and then 3 FW, but push the two wide forwards out to the touch line. A diamond 343 but the front 3 are spread out. Or you can do the same with a flat 4 instead of a diamond. Easily the best formation I ever done. The spacing and pressing was too good.
Marcelo Bielsa left an unforgettable legacy in chilean football. he changed the way us chileans see this sport. there is and after and before Bielsa in chilean football history. We salute you Don Marcelo.
I found this channel about a week ago and I'd say I've watched nearly every video. It's exactly what I was looking for. A breakdown of tactics in a smart and easy way. The editing is superb as well. The fact that you haven't over 1 million views per video is depressing. We need to educate even the casual fan. Any chance you could do a breakdown of Roy Keane and his footballing ability and attributes? I've heard enough about his personality and personal life. I watched him religiously as a kid (heavily influenced by my father) but I can't put into context his ability. Please me and my father would be very appreciative. Thank you again for a superb channel 👌👌🐐🐐
I love these systems, and in particular the use of players 'out of position'. In much of football, this is frowned upon, but in the right system, it can be a stroke of genius. I love the 'whirlwind' attack that is created when you set a system up like this. The philosophy seems to not be 'this is your role, so you must stick to it', but rather to say, 'this is your area of the pitch, so attack it.' This creates unpredictability because the play is not defined by the roles of players (and therefore you can predict what they are trying to do), but by where they are likely to operate, which isn't as useful to the opposition as knowing what they are likely to do. This further enhanced by having players 'out of position', so where you might expect a certain kind of player, you in fact get another type.
His Chile side were a delight to watch. The faces on my colleagues when I said they would beat England in a friendly a couple of years ago was priceless. If memory serves it was his Argentina side which scored that wonder goal a few years back, passing the ball around the pitch for ages before pouncing. Always been fascinated with his teams, shame he doesn't have the silverware to back it up.
I think u might be talking about the goal against Serbia and Montenegro in the 2006 world cup. Pekerman was the coach at the time, but I do think Pekerman was influenced by Bielsa as well.
I had the pleasure to watch Argentinas WC-qualifiers to the 2002 world cup. Marcelo Bielsa was the coach and Argentina probably had its best team in the post-Maradona era. The way they played was amazing. I have never seen anything like it. First of all, just so that people understand, the player with the ball is the only one standing still, while all the other players (all of them) run forward, essentially becoming a passing alternative forward. And if that was not enough, the player with the ball usually only made one or two touches before passing the ball forward. This in of itself created a firce speed on theire side. And the Argentina stars handled it very well. Dominating in the qualifiers to the WC. The problem happende however at the world cup itself. In South America Argentina usually met teams that would usually attack. But what happens when you meet a European team fully based on defense? You suddenly run into problems. And then and there, Argentina might have played well, but got the worst result in a WC for decades. Not even going passed the Group stage. Tragic really.
Indeed. A man so true to his principles that he gets blinded when meeting 'anti-fotball'. Nonetheless, he was also quite unlucky to be frank. It's going to be interesting seeing what he can do with Leeds this season. Can he remake a fallen giant?
It's funny how LVG, Bielsa, Klopp and Guardiola all have this fundamental style that the team can surpass the individual to the extreme. Everyone has their roles, movements and instructions all pre planned, and very little is off the cuff. The extreme other end is Arsene Wenger where you feel nothing is organised or planned. The very basics and that about it.
I love this channel because it emphasizes on football all around not like other channels in which barca madrid bayern is being highlighted and we know about them but you guys are amazing you show the tactics and organization of football from low level to high level keep up the amazing work🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
@@fare528 but when he came to bilbao they were relegation contenders, and when he left they had played an european final and u can see what he is doing at leeds
As an Argentine, I must say this video is 100% true. Is exactly what he is. One of the main Bielsas flaw maybe obstination with his ideas. He s not open to negotiate his understanding of football. That brought him more than one headache.
Outstanding video here guys! One of my favorites of all time. I can't get enough of these Tactical videos, they're amazing. And i do think it would be a great idea to keep an eye on Lille this year. They will definitely be interesting for sure.

i recommend this for months now. thats why. comment gets likes but yeah no Video. there is nothing about him on youtube. just French stuff. but love you channel anyway, i came here around he 2000 mark ;-) and sorry for bad english.
if you want to see how great Bielsa is, watch Athletic Bilbao vs Barcelona in 2011. This was probably the match where both managers were more influential than the players on the pitch
Very interesting approach, he seems like to exploit the width of the pitch and make his players work hard by trying to shut down the opposition's attacking flow...
i used the 3-3-1-3 formation in fifa 09, but instead of wing-backs the midfielders played between wing-back and cm position and the cdm played almost as a libero, so when i attacked i had a sort of 3-2-1-4 formation and when defending it was 5-1-3-1
Scully for utd - pass the ball around and never try anything. then get the ball to martial and hope he makes something happen. such uninspiring football
Would be interesting to see him at a team such as Celtic or Olympiakos who win their league easily - maybe he would ease off or rotate his squad more for the easier games and still have a fit 1st XI at April/May...
Great explanation, but you should've used the chilean national team as the example, as that was the one team that actually played his tactics to full potential. He needs players with extremely high stamina and resistance and he found that in the likes of Vidal, Alexis, Medel, Isla, etc. who grew within his system.
where's the part when he puts Thiago Maia as a left back without knowledge of this position and ends up with red card at 30 min of the first half?. Genius at work baby
Wales should play with a 3-3-1-3 formation, Bale as the enganche, Vokes, Robson Kanu, and Ramsey up top, Neil Taylor, Chris gunther as the wing backs, Joe Allen maybe as the screening midfielder, James Chester, Ashley Williams, and Davies as centre backs
Bielsa's tactic was genius since he could destroy if the opposite team played a 4-4-2 . But I think it's kinda vulnerable . First of all against a 4-5-1 , the opposing team will have an attacking disadvantage , but they could block the heart of the system , the central midfielder . And then his tactic is also kinda vulnerable against a 4-3-3 .
Lille will come around I watch all of their games so far this season.... the players are still adapting to the system, they played brillantly in their second game, Defensively they seem to struggle a bit, But i'm confident Bielsa will have them sorted and they will probably finish top 6 this season... In Luiz Araujo, Benzia, El Ghazi, De Preville, and Ezequiel Ponce they have a very young and entertaining attack, on there day these guys will play some of the most entertaining attacking football in Ligue 1
If you don't have it in the works already, how about a Tactics Explained for Zinedine Zidane? He's done an incredible job since taking over for Rafa and he's showing Florentino Perez that Madrid don't need Galacticos signings every year to win the Champions League. You just need to define player roles and manage.
I see that it was Bielsa who outclassed SAF in the Bilbao game... i think its time Bielsa comes to Man UTD...p.s can you please do a 1min park the bus analysis on Jose since there is not much to say about Jose's tactics
very knowledgeable for beginners like me as I'm from very centre point of india nd there is no football in my town but I'm trying to promote it here. so plz provide articles with subtile below the screen. plz explain about how different formation does work in different situation such as in both attack nd defence that how these formation takes shape according to situations. thank u Umaxit staff for providing solid knowledge.

It's new players that will get leeds promoted. The best chef in the world can't make a good cake out of shit.

Roomi Tarik A brilliant mind but he's a bit of a lunatic
Because he's crazy and he only coaches small teams
because he is a control freak. Big clubs won't give him all the power
He only coaches small teams because big teams like winning and Bielsa is a serial loser.
Shoot Neutrality I 100% agree
That's surprisingly the exact two systems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer uses with Man United at the moment..
2 systems?
Yes he sent Dan James there as his spy there in Leeds
But bielsas is in more detail

This wasn't enough.
Rishabh Singh condoms 'weren't enough' to stop you. What a shame.
iSeeRed unnecessary
so this is why you dont pick Guy Roux? 44 Years of histroy and masterclass to much to handle? :P
i recommend this for months now. thats why. comment gets likes but yeah no Video. there is nothing about him on youtube. just French stuff. but love you channel anyway, i came here around he 2000 mark ;-) and sorry for bad english.
Alex Stewart yeah but I felt another 5 minutes would have made more justice to the man.
Coming to Leeds
Sampaoli next please!
Big JellyEel Sampaoli is very similar to Bielsa, since he is a hard core Bielsaista
Manas Baruah Sampaoli is not overrated, he was more clever then Bielsa, more involved with the players itself, and never give up until the end
Shark Team please God, no.
Yeah ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! HIS STEAMING WC2018 RIGHT NOW!
Sampaoli is shit caca compared to Marcelo Bielsa.
Welcome to Premier League boss. As a United fan I am looking forward to some spicy football between us and Leeds
if you want to see how great Bielsa is, watch Athletic Bilbao vs Barcelona in 2011. This was probably the match where both managers were more influential than the players on the pitch
Very interesting approach, he seems like to exploit the width of the pitch and make his players work hard by trying to shut down the opposition's attacking flow...
Finally!
i used the 3-3-1-3 formation in fifa 09, but instead of wing-backs the midfielders played between wing-back and cm position and the cdm played almost as a libero, so when i attacked i had a sort of 3-2-1-4 formation and when defending it was 5-1-3-1
Can mexico now more than ever imagine more "cosas chingonas" as he is supposed to take over el tri? Am low key excited
Can you do a video on Louis van Gaal from his time at barca or ajax please??!
when talking about frank de boer at crystal palace he is reffering to van gaal. Might want to check it out
Scully for utd - pass the ball around and never try anything. then get the ball to martial and hope he makes something happen. such uninspiring football
Scully this the real scully? 😂
Badpak I meant ajax not man utd sorry. At ajax when he won the UCL and barca the league

Lovely piece ur content and style are unique and very much appreciated 👍🏽 keep it up
Thanks Mo!
Terrific video, the best one yet!
Eventually after months of wait, Thanks. If possible 'Total football' of Dutch or Ajax would be interesting.
I love this video and this coach.
Thanks
Come to lufc!!! 🤞🤞🤞
Would be interesting to see him at a team such as Celtic or Olympiakos who win their league easily - maybe he would ease off or rotate his squad more for the easier games and still have a fit 1st XI at April/May...
Do a new series of tactics for every national team who qualifies for the World Cup next year
Great explanation, but you should've used the chilean national team as the example, as that was the one team that actually played his tactics to full potential. He needs players with extremely high stamina and resistance and he found that in the likes of Vidal, Alexis, Medel, Isla, etc. who grew within his system.
Excellent as always! I am a fan.
where's the part when he puts Thiago Maia as a left back without knowledge of this position and ends up with red card at 30 min of the first half?. Genius at work baby
You know if you did a video like this on his first 10 games at Leeds you'd probably crack a 250k views
Or just make a video of his tactics at Leeds. His playing 4-1-4-1 most of the games there.
Could you do one for Ernesto Valverde 's Bilbao , had interesting tactics and movements last season. Thanks for this one on Bielsa.
Such satisfaction animation 💦 Good Job uMaxitfootball
PLEASE do a whiteboard football extra podcast about Bielsa. PLEASE 🙏🏾
great coach...please do a video on Christian Gourcuff that has created a style in Lorient...
I see that it was Bielsa who outclassed SAF in the Bilbao game... i think its time Bielsa comes to Man UTD...p.s can you please do a 1min park the bus analysis on Jose since there is not much to say about Jose's tactics
Swansea and leeds today so very interesting
Bielsa influenced emery too

Is a very dificult manager to work with
have you worked with him? true is that most players who played for Bielsa have great things to say about him.
