Dude i dont think you were watching the video, Ali clearly stated that he was in med school and made 10k in one day. In other words this is no where near “unrealistic”. RUclips is actually quite hard bro. 1k views make 2 bucks. So if you had a 10k viewed video you would get about 20 usd. But you can get money from patreons, the join button, subs and likes etc.

Of course you can only consume so much productivity advice until it all starts to feel like the same. At this point, he has covered basically everything and is just repeating the same idea with different words. I mean, look at Cole Hastings, his channel has soo many videos yet not single one of them feels substantial. On the other hand Thomas Frank simply stopped making videos (I knew he promised more but like his latest video is 3 months old now).
True. He's not the same 'studious guy' we knew. I was hella shocked when I saw that he turned 30.
I can't agree more. I followed him when he had about 50 to 150K. Maybe he was unique and enthusiastic about what he was doing, and every video had something new to teach. Now, he is a generic RUclipsr, which you can find on any other channel. This is good for him, but the content is not the same. I barely watch his videos more than 3 min 4 min these days.

Problem with these approaches is that these don't appeal to countries with low average incomes. Most of the countries in Asia don't have large income players.

So I just posted a similar video on my channel one hour before Ali posted this. And as I was watching this video, I realised Ali is saying the things that I have been saying in my videos. Like working for free for the first client. Picking up a high income skill and steadily building on it.
I am a little bit in tears because it makes me so happy as a creator and as an entrepreneur to have similar thoughts like the creator I admire.

But like, it's *so time consuming* to find the businesses! At least for me as a newbie in freelance illustration. I have gotten jobs, that I could finish in a week (if they responded promptly) most recently for 1,400 - and that's underpaid. If I just had ONE other company pay 1/2 that much a month I'd be in such a good place. But I've emailed over 50 easily I get replies and interest...but....not much else. I think this totally oversimplifies the *time* and effort of *the search*

Ali, Cal Newport convinced me to quit social media. I'm not getting back to these toxic and metal health degrading platforms. Life has been good since I quit. I also dont have any friends so it was not worth being on Insta.
Anyways, I think just learning skills is not enough. I think, as a person I should know how I can sell me skills and how can I communicate more effectively.

don't spend too much time thinking about if you enjoy an activity. Things you are good at and things you enjoy doing are usually almost the set. Don't go looking for the things you enjoy the most, thinking "but maybe I don't like these things enough"

thanks Ali, but just to "complete" the picture, everything has a (opportunity) cost, including providing value to someone else that will come at the cost of your time, which is your most precious resource. So make sure you have the capacity, and whatever you take on is aligned with YOUR OWN goals. As inspiring Ali is, there is only one and he is the best ofc ;)
First of all, there are two ways to make money. Sell product or provide services. You need to find what you are good at, what you enjoy doing and what market needs. If all these three meet, you gonna get clients. It is important to do for free in order to get first client. Next step, think like the business and charge more ( the value you provide needs to be equivalent to the charges, it is better if you can give more). If you think like the consumer, you might think the price you charge is damn high. Finally, if you want to increase your price on current client, ask him for referral or charges more.
I half expected Ali to repeat advice from his previous videos but this was actually helpful and insightful.

Why would a small independent cafe pay $1000 a month to a student to handle their social media? They are generally operating on small margins and their Insta pages are often pretty nice anyway. Some pics of the pastries, some staff having fun at work, holiday timings etc is all you need... There's no need for an external person. If you want more trendy input ask a barista to handle. Speaking of -- this whole concept implicitly assumes working at a cafe is too lowly for a degree student. It also feeds into this capitalist cycle of BS marketing jobs, style over substance.

To your point about people thinking like consumers and not businesses if they feel like $1,000 is a lot to charge for something- a lot of people don’t realize the amount of money some businesses bring in on a monthly basis, and how much similarly they invest(I.e. “spend”) in services/goods in order to make that revenue.
I started working at a bookstore recently for fun and was surprised to see that in a single month alone we sold more $50,000 of manga comics. That’s just ONE section of the store 🤣

Genuine question. Why would anyone pay for website design considering you can pay peanuts for an AI that can do it pretty much all for you? What skills are going to survive the AI revolution or will all of us end up broke and be given a wonderful check monthly to "survive" off of?
Try to make a website only AI with no skill, you'll get the answer to your question :) This belief comes from a misunderstanding of what development really is. It is not just writing code.

I like teaching math and hindi, but I have no laptop 💻 When I was 12 grade,I explain solution to my classmate, and hindi is my native language.I taught offline few yrs. One of senior said you would be a good teacher bcs your explanation of any topic is easy to understand.But that time I was not serious about my future.

Most of this advice don't work for people like us in Africa. Most local businesses can't even afford to pay $100 a month or even willing to do that. I'm a graphic designer and I struggle to make income from my skills here in Ghana
If you are a student, you can apply for grants. So you write a lot of papers anyway, and submit for grants or scholarships. There can be one time or monthly. I used that money to apply for masters abroad. I didn't think I had time to work, but I wrote papers and won competitions to get money. That is the thing you can do only while you student. If you follow his advice, it might eat up all your time from studies.
