Q&A With Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, Spectrum, E.A.R.)

- It's only taken three decades, but Sonic Boom has finally released the "proper" follow-up to 1990 solo debut "Spectrum." "All Things Being Equal" (Carpark), of course, isn't the first music Pete Kember has issued in that time. "Spectrum" came out while his legendary Spacemen 3 was still an active band and before its 1991 swan song, "Recurring." After S3's dissolution, Kember released records as Spectrum and E.A.R., produced the likes of MGMT, Beach House and Panda Bear and collaborated with Yo La Tengo, Stereolab and others. "All Things Being Equal" proves Kember is still a modern master of soothing psychedelia sounds, which are the perfect prescription for today's trying times.
Ive known Pete for 30 years ... and that is the longest ive ever seen him without a spliff!
Saw him in Leeds Warehouse in 1991
Tell him I said whatsup
pedro pyramid :)
He listened to VU when he was only 13? Holy Toledo! Back in the day, before RUclips and the internet, we bought loads of records because of the sleeve. The VU sleeve is certainly one of the most famous ever, right up there with Sgt Pepper.
I was 15 when I bought "Transformer", backtracked to the Velvets, found the Stooges. Well, that did for me. Education? Nah! Sex, Drugs, Rock n Roll? Hell yeah!
you WERE very privileged to have met and learned from Delia Derbyshire; I'm glad that you appreciate how much of a privilege that was too.
One of the best concerts I've ever been to was PiL in Chicago in the mid 80s. Another great one was Jethro Tull in L.A. in the early 70s, the Aqualung tour. (That one blew my mind, I wasn't expecting that)!
Great video. Pete seems like a cool guy. Saw him last year in Bristol and it was one of my favourite shows of the year.
I like the pillows
Too short. Very interesting and glad too see him being so amused at the end by his mistake.
