It's still like this if you are willing, I was born in 2005, and there was no one to really talk to in my town about the Velvet Underground and Red Crayola, this was around 2021 when I was 14, so I went to the local record store and made a bunch of friends who introduced me to other experimental music and I was so fucking happy that I finally could talk to someone in person about all this kind of stuff. It's not as big as it used to be, but going to a record store to find some new music and talking to the people who work there so they can give you some info and insight into stuff is still very much a thing that happens.
